Just for the record, I wasn't weighing in on this discussion at all. I was merely pointing out, as I said, an interesting aside about the word "fasces", and it's use in Paul's day.

Everything I said was true, and nothing bad was said about anyone. You must really learn to control your emotions.

Another interesting aside, one of the main reasons given for denying women the right to vote was that they were too emotional, and would not vote, based on sound reasoning and logic. I do not endorse that opinion at all and believe that women are very responsible and capable citizens.

However, part of the problem in the U.S. today is that everyone votes their emotions, instead of taking the time and effort to find out the truth. Part of the problem in our country today is that we have lost the ability to govern ourselves because people will not put forth the effort to educate themselves on issues and the voting records and platforms of the people they are electing.

For this reason, elected officials are no longer held accountable to the voters. They are instead held accountable to factional minorities such as the unions, environmentalists, moveon.org, ect., and to the media. Elected officials are not interested about America nearly as much as they are interested in being reelected.

Other posts in here speak of the millions of Americans who have died for our country. And yet, millions of Americans have willingly let the government rob them of their liberties, under the false guise of personal security. They died for freedom, and the responsibility that goes along with it. We have too long shirked our responsibilities to provide for ourselves, and have given ourselves over to "big brother" to take care of us.

I for one, believe that we still have enough good people in our country to perhaps save our freedom from opressive government. And I am willing to do something about it. But if we don't have God on our side, how can we expect to win?

Our government will never be a Christian government. That is why we must limit that government to only those things originally granted to it in the constitution. The federal government is a necessary evil, in order to promote common security and stability. It was never meant to rule us with an iron fist, and take away our rights and liberties.

It is the character of the people, grounded in a sense of mission, to provide for ourselves, and our communities, taking responsibility for our own actions, and for the needs of others, with love and compassion, and the courage and will to do what is right, that will lead us back to the truth.

In order to do this, we must have character. What better place to build character than in biblical principles? What better place to build character than in a relationship with Jesus Christ? What better place to build character than in service to others in our churches and communities?

We don't need government to take care of us. We can take care of ourselves. The government just needs to get out of the way!!

So don't preach to me about the sacrifices of those who have died for our country, (not you Scott, but others). I am already aware of them, and I thank God that they had the courage, and the convictions, to see in our country, (not the government), something worth dying for. And I also pray to God, that we have the courage and the conviction to preserve some of that, for future generations.

That is not always true! What about people with disabilities? Who would take care of the poor and the disabled, if there were not government supported social services? Government is not the problem in America. The religious right (and the religious left) are the problems in America. "America is a Christian nation" (Pat Robertson) is a lie. "God damn America " (Jeremiah Wright) is a lie. The government needs to help those who cannot help themselves. Much of evangelicalism isn't helping the poor: it is just ripping people off "the the name of Jesus".

I don't believe that the American Government itself is Christian. It doesn't hold this capacity. It's not allowed. But I do believe that the majority of religion in America (the USA specificly) is Christian. Most of our religion is Christian.

If you criticize your own government, you criticize yourself, for it's "government of the people, by the people, and for the people." The people can be blamed for the idiots they put into high office. That happened in the USA in 2008. God bless America.

There's a difference between people making fun of you cause of being a christian and being persecuted. even though your logic is faulty, (since you haven't operated as a Constitutional Republic for decades)i'd rather hold my gov't and myself responsible for the evil it does in my name - rather than to affirm (and make excuses for) as you do the evil it does, making you a partaker in it.
