When you can't seem to forgive, then you lack the practice of forgiving as an act of your will. Forgiveness is not based on what you feel like.

I think people need to understand what forgiveness is. If someone comes to my door and kicks me in the shin everyday, he needn't expect me to forgive him. On the other hand, if he stops kicking me in the shin, why wouldn't I forgive him?

Unforgiveness is harmful to the soul of the person refusing to forgive. It is said that being unforgiving is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Do you realize that most times unforgiveness is just because someone doesn't trust that God is in control? They want to be sure that the person "pays" for the pain they've caused, or are causing. They, essentially, do not believe that God loves them enough to handle it appropriately. Yet, how often are we, ourselves, forgiven of things that others would never release us from? Too often to count.

Being able to forgive comes from an understanding of how we've been forgiven and what price Jesus paid for our forgiveness. Forgiveness also sets you free from being the offenders slave by way of dwelling on the offence. Lastly, forgiveness can often be and usually is a process over time. We've all been there on some level

If you cannot seem to forgive right now i'm sure in time you will, God has a way of molding our hearts especially when we trust him to mold us

With all due respect.. I think that you don't understand what forgiveness is. While Jesus was on the cross he said Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

What if God expected all of us sinners to stop kicking Him and only then would He forgive us?

Question for thought.. What is forgiveness? How can you forgive someone but at the same time, not want anything to do with someone? It could be someone that completely ruined and harmed your life like an abuser or someone that stole from you and ruined you financially.. How can one forgive but at the same time consider it protecting him/herself from getting hurt again?

As I understand scripture.. Unforgiveness puts a block on your relationship with God as Father, as our provider, in answering our prayers, as our Advocate to cleanse us of all unrighteousness.. it totally cuts us off from God. (Mark 11:25-26).
Is not forgiving someone really worth all that?

Forgiveness doesn't mean "I totally trust you frenemy!" It simply means that you forgive them. But at the same time you are not going to trust them again, or have anything to do with that person again.

So what does it mean to forgive someone, then, if the person is cut from your life because you can't trust that individual again? Are you actually really forgiving by pushing the person out?

If he said that at all; I believe that's found only in Luke.

I'm not really understanding your question. It sounds like you're relating forgiving to giving a get-out-of-jail-free card. Whatchoo talkin' 'bout jsr? :)

All I've added to your scenario is to forgive them. You are the one who had the answer as having nothing to do with them.

Thank you for adding the scripture reference. The apostle Paul wrote that we are to forgive others as God in Christ has forgiven us. That, I believe, is referring to what Jesus said when he was on the cross.

You mentioned how forgiveness isn't about "I totally trust you, frenemy!" If you don't trust someone, then why is the person in your life, and did you really forgive if you don't trust? I'm asking in general.

I guess I've always been curious about forgiveness versus trust. I just posted how could someone forgive someone but at the same time have a person in life that can't be trusted. Did forgiveness really happen, in that sense?

You feel like trust and forgiveness are synonymous? What about forgiving one's enemies, in that case? Thanks for taking a moment to elaborate, by the way.
