We are saved by grace. We are not saved by faith. Faith the faith through which we receive grace is from hearing the word of God. Even here the Holy Spirit must act upon the word to make it effective in bringing us to Christ.

All of the misuse of James 2:17 is just a dance around the May pole until they all fall down.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

No good works until we have been created in Christ Jesus by being born again and that by grace.

Salvation is never merited or earned. Always by the mercy and love of God. God loved us while we were yet sinners.

1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

James 2:17
Faith without works is dead.
How many works must one do to prove they have saving faith? Can you put a figure on it?
There's a much better way to have proof as to whether you are saved or not.
A christian with true faith that saves them cannot sin without conscience, someone without true saving faith can

Without works faith is dead. If a person is prevented from works for any reason you have a different situation. But if you're able to do works and don't then you're faith is dead.
And it's confusing at all.

it is not confusing, People make it confusing by making works a requirement.

It is faith that is in question.

If you have true faith, it is real. then you will do what the person who trust asks you to do.

If you have mere belief, you will not do anything. Because you have no faith (it is dead)

Paul said we are saved by faith. If you have no Faith, your not saved.

Works are not [art of the equation. James spoke to people who claimed to have faith, but lived like they had lived before they supposedly because a Christian, they heard the word. but had no faith in the word. thus they did not do the word.

Faith alone saves but faith that saves Is never alone.
Cute but inaccurate.

Salvation is by grace alone.

The atonement of Christ's blood is made efficacious by grace. Wholly undeserved and unmerited. Mercy allows God to pity us and save us from our sins.

I'll take James word over yours
So you ignore pauls words. And twist James words. And that makes you smart?

Take the word of God as a whole. not one sentence in one letter in one chapter.

Here is your problem.

if zero zip nada works =- zero faith.

Then one work would equal a live faith.

This I can get saved, do one good deed. and my faith is real. so I am saved because I did that one work.

If you say it is not one work. then how many works is it? And where does James say we need this many works to prove our faith is real..

Dead faith is what you have without a living Savior.

James 2:17
Faith without works is dead.
Just another thread to ATTACK my Lord and Saviors Character, integrity and virtue. Sickening.

A creature that has believed/trusted/ at a POINT in time in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation is SAVED. His Grace is never dead. The creatures faith may fail or be dead....................the CREATORS grace never.never, never, never, never and did I say NEVER fails.

A dead faith.............loss of salvation, maintaining salvation, works for salvation......This is a true DEAD faith.

A believer who thinks James 2:17 is talking about eternal life or eternal salvation and loss of it or who never had it ............Is faith without works and is DEAD. Not loss of salvation or was never saved....but a LOSER believer.

Exactly. The OP takes works over love. It would be funny if it wasn't so horrifyingly ludicrous.

Grace alone saves. Through faith BY grace. The moment we believe HE saves. It is not our faith that saves us, Grace saves us. After the moment of our non meritorious faith, CHRIST(GRACE) saves us. The merit in HIS grace keeps us saved not the merit in our faith.............our faith has no merit, Just His grace.
