"..but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons..." Rom 8:15

"...groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons..." Rom 8:23

"... and to them belong the adoption..." Rom 9:4

"to redeem those who were under the law, so that they might receive adoption as sons." Gal 4:5

"he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will." Ephes 1:5

"For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." Matt 12:50

Why didn't Jesus ever use the word adopted? Ideas? I think Jesus was NEVER WRONG.

But Jesus does address taking His saving grace to the gentiles in Mark 7 when Jesus tells of healing the Canaanite woman's daughter.

Mar_7:27-29 He said to her, "Allow the children to be satisfied first, because it isn't right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 28 But she replied to Him, "Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."

It is the first scripture that tells of going to the gentiles with the Gospel message.

The message of scripture to us about God's relationship with the Hebrews and us, what God expects of us in our relationship with the Hebrews, all of it is a deep mystery but very important that we dig deeply into all scripture so we understand.

The church has often gotten it wrong, and we are just beginning to come into the light of it. It was wrong to persecute them so over the ages. Their being blinded to Christ for our sakes is a huge mystery. It is wrong to say that Christ wiped out anything His Father taught the Hebrews, but we must know Christ changed many things. The epistles talks a lot about it, but mainly as to people who were new to hearing about Christ, but knew all about the way the Hebrews taught. Now, we know all about Christ but we know little of Judaism and how it relates to Christ. It is important to learn exactly what Christ replaced and how. That is an important study few are doing. Most Christians just say it is all obsolete, Christ replaced everything so why go into the details. That is wrong.

That we are adopted and grafted in is just the tip of the iceberg. There is much to learn about it.

RedTent, ----You avoided the question. Why didn't Jesus ever say "adopted"?

Possibilities for you:

Jesus was wrong?
Paul was wrong?
They were both wrong?
I don't want to think about it, I have a headache right now.

Scripture is not a legalistic document, it is speaking of the spiritual. The entire theme of adopted has to do with the Jew/gentile question, and the answer is in the entire scripture, understanding from God's viewpoint.

No, the word adopted is not in any of the gospels. Lots of things aren't. "letter of the law" "knowledge of sin" "uncircumcision". The words "Original sin" isn't even in the New Testament.

Jesus was not wrong not to use the word.
Paul was not wrong to use this word.
It is an important question, I'm glad you brought it up, I thought it was for us to think about it. Paul had a lot to say about it, he talked about us being graphed in to the true vine.

It is because we are still in the flesh that Paul uses "adoption". We have been quickened while being dead still in our trespasses. Paul did not contradict Christ, it is that Jesus does not see as a man sees. He judged and saw the end result of a man who completely does the will of God as He does.

On judgment day, try telling this to Jesus, "I didn't want to obey YOUR laws." Won't work very well.

"If you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

Jesus told us EVERYTHING that we need spiritually, he said so. Wonder why so few believe him?

"But be on guard, I have told you all things beforehand." Mark 13:23, see also John 4:25-26 How many have been paying attention? Most go after false teachers/false prophets.
