Who started it? These mixed up protestants who baptize infants are following the lead of the Roman Catholic church.
So, protestants are to blame all their bad habits on the Catholics? Nice to have a scapegoat huh?.....
The Church of Norway (Lutheran?) has infant baptism. Doesn't make them Catholic.

I am pleased we have someone on this site who is wiser than all the Catholics and Protestants.

Infant baptism is unscriptural, and Catholics and protestants alike are responsible for their own bad habits, regardless of who started it.

Can you show me the scripture stating that children shouldn't be baptized?

We are talking about babies, not children. Are babies capable of repenting and believing the gospel? So why baptize them? Can you show me the scripture stating that babies should be baptized?

This scripture suggests you need to be baptized to be saved. A responsible parent might, therefore, take their infant out and have him baptized immediately. That’s what my parents did.

He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 RSV.

I was water baptized (actually sprinkled) an an infant in the Roman Catholic church, yet I was water baptized (immersion) years later, after I received Christ through faith.

He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 RSV.
Mark 16:16 - He who believes and is baptized will be saved (general cases without making a qualification for the unusual case of someone who believes but is not baptized) but he who does not believe will be condemned. The omission of baptized with "does not believe" shows that Jesus does not make baptism absolutely essential to salvation. Condemnation rests on unbelief, not on a lack of baptism. So salvation rests on belief. NOWHERE does the Bible say "baptized or condemned."

If water baptism is absolutely required for salvation, then why did Jesus not mention it in the following verses? (3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:29,40,47; 11:25,26). What is the ONE requirement that Jesus mentions 9 different times in each of these complete statements? BELIEVES. *What happened to baptism? *Hermeneutics.

John 3:18 - He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who (is not water baptized? - NO) does not believe is condemned already, because he has not (been water baptized? - NO) because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I'm not saying water baptism is required for salvation. I'm just saying there is a reason that some people believe that it is, and therefore, I'm not going to stand in judgment of them.

I don't the think the act of baptizing infants is in itself wrong,
the danger is if the people doing it think that that is the only thing needed to be saved.
If they know it takes faith as well, no harm done.
