Hi Brothers and Sister =]

I was in my Bible class this morning (00100 Foundational Beliefs of the Christian Faith). Right now we're learning about sin and salvation. Today, my teacher said something that kind of caught me off guard.

He said: "Every child born of sinful parents is a sinner by birth, by choice, and by practice."

When I was younger, I was always taught that when we are born, we are born with a clean slate; free from sin. I'm not exactly sure what to think. Your opinions?

YAY!! Another topic that everyone has an opinion for!

Umm, My friend...Ask JESUS to Show you. As we should with al things.

I guess i will say, tht I personally believe that we are ALL born with a Sinfull nature, But not knowing what Sin is. Innocent.

If your innocent you can still Sin. One of the FIRST thigns that come out of most childrens mouths are "NO!" thats out right arrogance, and dissobedeince. They are Little self centered things....but still so sweet and innocent becasue they HAVE NO IDEA what Sin is. They ARE Sinners. But they cant reason what is sin or not. Theres a proveb that says to Train a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it. which means that you have to show the child what is GOOD behavior and what is BAD. The Child is born automaticaly wanting to do bad. so if you dont train them..well...im sure you can tell what would happen.

So Children having a clean slate? Im not to sure if its as cut and dry as that. They dont know Sin. But they DO sin. But then there is an age of accountiblity(i think its different for every person...some chidlren would be accoutnable for there actions YOUNG..maybe like 10-11...and some would never be...like people with devleopmental dissorders...)

So maybe this answers your question alittle bit?

Logic tells us you are not a sinner until you sin. Of course, I don’t think it took any of us very long to commit our first sin.

It's okay to disagree with your teachers. Don't let them brainwash you, just try to hear them out and try to understand their perspective the best you can. That way you can pass their tests and still hold to your own beliefs.

For the specific doctrine, I don't see a problem looking at it either way since it produces the same end result, namely we all end up sinning and therefore falling short of God's grace which means we need a way of reconciliation with God. Either way leads to Jesus.

Think of it this way, the Apostles, in Acts never preached to people saying "because of Adam's sin you are a sinner and are in need of God's grace/forgiveness", nope they preached repentance that would speak of personal responsibility. On the other hand, David said he was sinful from birth (his mother's womb).. Either way, they have the same end result.

Just my take.

One way to understand the idea of inherent sin is that no one is born into perfection, even if they themselves haven't committed moral evils. Children have diseases, a finite lifespan, etc. all before they commit sin. This lack of perfection can be described as sin without meaning a particular act. It is a state.

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. (Romans 5:19)

3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. (Psalm 58:3)

Dear Scotty, We are born mortal and born to live only 120 years at the very most.
We are mortal, and inherit a weakened, mortal state subject to death and disease from Adam, the father of the human race. Children (infants) have no actual sins until later they fall into sin (personal sins), and only for these sins (see Ezekiel 18) is a a child and an adult responsible. We are not responsible for what Adam and Eve did. We do not inherit guilt or original sin from Adam and Eve. We inherit death from them, though, the result of their sin is that man is not given eternal life. He must acquire the gift of eternal life through true faith in Jesus Christ the Messiah and Saviour of all mankind, especially of the elect. We are not held responsible for the sins of our parents or ancestors, or any other people; only responsible for our own personal sins (EZEKIEL 18). God save us. Amen. In June 2011 AD Scott R. Harrington
PS There are no sinners by birth; we are sinners only when we actually sin, and all people actually sin. We do not sin because we are (born) sinners; we are sinners because we (actually) sin.
