Although I believe Christians can be anonymous according to Hebrew 11. Nicodemus had no problem facing those he once stood with. He defended the faith of Christ which at one time he tried to make to no effect.

The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? Joh 7:46
A later profession doesn't make the first act okay. Many Christians are still stuck in the first act of praising Jesus to His face, but hiding their association to Jesus from the people for fear of persecution. "Oh Jesus, yes, yes! I believe!" but then hides their identity in the dark so nobody can associate them with Jesus. They remain anonymous yet they're going around trying to teach and rebuke other people.

Nicodemus believed Jesus was from God, yet Nicodemus came at night so nobody knew that's what he believed. He didn't want to lose his standing, reputation, take up his cross.

John 3:1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.2 He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him."

Well, you cannot be fully anonymous on the internet, without quite a lot of efford.

Your ISP knows who you are, your email provider, facebook, linkedin, Skype, Windows, companies where you made an order from your computer and filled personal information in the bill etc...

But there is no reson to make it worse by showing everything about us to everybody.

Would you really want your small daughter to be non-anonymous browsing the internet and chatting with strangers? So she will be in "light"? I dont think so.

Exactly! You're not anonymous anyway! Except to the average person you are presenting yourself to anonymously in the name of Jesus. Like Nicodemus when he approached Jesus at night. Christians stuck in hide mode.

It doesn't matter if there is a zero in your name.
What may you think proves precisely it doesn't matter if there is a zero in my name ? I didn't say anything wrong.

We see your name is Thomas.
Did you know my first name is Thomas before I revealed it ? I didn't say anything wrong.

But it's not your full name so you could never be identified.
Do you think you know that I have never told anyone who has used this website, my full name ?

I judge to only reveal my full name to people who appear trustworthy. You don't know everything I've done/said in the past when I wasn't a Christian. It may be used against me if I reveal enough about myself to a dishonest person. Do you think Jesus Christ would be pleased if that happened ?

What may you think proves that precisely ? I didn't say anything wrong.

I have listened and talked with many people, outside of the internet, telling them a lot about me including sharing some of my experience of serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Many people have seen and heard me do it.

God knows my name and all about me, even in the internet.

You may compare all I have said to you in this post to all you have said to me in this thread including how you have spoken to me, to a post I posted in this thread, post #215, in which I put a part of a Bible which you may look at below and learn something new.

Proverbs 12:23

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

When I was a teen I was too embarrassed to mention His name in front of my friends, and loved God in secret. In my mind I applied the lyrics of songs to mean something about God instead of what they really meant, but would keep those thoughts to myself. I've grown since then, and everyone that knows me knows that I lift His name high. Nicodemus was just starting Christianity, he may have matured after that.

Peter also shrinked back- denying he even knew Jesus, and Paul had to correct him for not sitting with Gentiles when Jews walked in. But he grew and matured in Christ. He boldly took a stand for Christ, even during persecution- which he was once afraid of when he denied Christ three times. Not only that, even though he died for Christ, he was too humble to die in the same way as Christ, and had his cross upside down.

Just as a baby is not born fully grown, one who is born again needs time to mature in Christ. In person, I am not an annonamous Christian, but on here it is just part of Internet safety. For one, it makes no difference to the other person if you are called "Jane Smith" or "TrailofTruth". Because they don't know your family, church, town, or history in order to know who "Jane Smith is anyways.

And quite actually, this is more accurate anyways. Because on here you only get a glimpse of someone's soul- who they really are after you take away physical traits like tall or short, hair or eye color, etc. because all physicality will be taken from us some day anyways, and only our words and deeds will determine who we are or were. (In Christ there are no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, male or female, slave or free, etc.)

Back then they only dealt with 'in person', there was no internet, credit cards, or social security numbers to protect. There's just some things you don't share with others for safety reasons. But I don't deny Christ in person or online. Still, there's nothing wrong with keeping you and your family safe online.

Thanks for the reply,

I think many have come to him who is the light in the darkness whether it is literal or spiritual . But the reference in John chapter 7 although it points to the darkness when they had their first encounter I think it might have been in the light of the day when Nicodemus defended Christ . They said to him; Art thou also of Galilee? Which is the same as saying are you a Christian.

Sounds like he was hiding you from the wolves?

I would agree while the milk of the word gives us the confidence he is gracious it does not necessarily give us the meat to both will and do his good pleasure. Each person is responsible for the light he gives to encourage us as we learn; what is the armor of God? How do we put it on .How long to we wear it.

Somewhere I heard said , the put on in the Greek is a one time put on .That encouraged me.

As far as anonymous. I find it interesting in Hebrews 11 where God starts using what we call great men of faith, men of renown and the list seems to get less and less recognizable as the kind of faith that subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.

The list continues in respect to people whose names are not given (anonymous)

Hebrews 11. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report “through faith”, received not the promise:

The anonymous (Of whom the world was not worthy:) God hid. I am sure that does not mean the others who names where mentioned were more worthy.

It is like he is reminding us the first shall be last and the last first. It also should encourage those who are hiding because of pride. I think of Elijah in the cave when God asked him; “ what you are doing there”? or whats up Doc?

And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

The still voice I believe could of said silently come out your safe I will continue to honor my word.

You can never really overcome an enemy if you are afraid of them. Why be so selfish that we can't see that others need to know about Christ as well so they can come out of the same darkness we were delivered from? I'm not timid to share the good news of Jesus Christ because I know exactly where I'd be without Him.
