riel82; ]sigh, sorry bro you just landed in what we here call a sectarian war.

there are so many "history" books out there it can make your head spin.

Personally I would read the Bible and try to see how it flows all together to tell the story of Jesus Christ and God's redemption plan for humanity.
I would agree that a thorough study of God’s word to us in scripture is what we need, but it is also necessary to look at what men have done to change what God says as we worship. That is best done by following the development of the church. We need to follow scripture, not the councils. As we compare council decisions to scripture we can best do that. Was it fine to change the date God gave for Easter, and change the name? Can men decide on the holidays of the church or should we follow bible instead? I am not sure of the answers to such as these questions, but I feel sure each Christiuan needs to decide for himself based on God's word, not the councils word.

I don’t think there can be any question that God has directed men in the choice of the books to include in our bible’.

Martin Luther was guided by God, I feel sure, in guiding the world to follow scripture, but it is best to follow scripture and not Luther as a man. Luther suggested it was OK to kill Rabbis if they taught OT bible, because they did not accept Christ as the Messiah. Teaching murder is not teaching God’s way. We need to follow scripture, not man. Christ wanted Jews to know Him, but Christ would not murder a Jew.

We need to study what man has said about God and compare it to God’s word.

Oooh look out, that sounds like a slight criticism of Luther.

In before: armor of God is pulled out and you are bashed around the head with it by the chosen righteous.
