Please explain why when a Bible Topic is presented in a post people stray from the topic and create their own topin within the post? This is very rude to the person who started the post. Would not it be better to start a post where you can srgue and debate with?

This happens to every thread in every section.

I believe there are people who are on here who may have more than one account and probably have been banned before. They are just being disruptive and intentionally derail threads.

I think it partially stems from the fact that most people "prove their "Scriptural" points without using Scripture at all.

Also MANY Scriptual principles are tied in very closely, thus the need for exploring other topics.

Finally, many, many other reasons.

Hi iwant2serve
IMO and the reason I give this as my opinion is because i'm guilty of it;;--->I think for me its because if I start a thread post and I don't reply and participate in the post early enough, and keep the topic on the topic if I see it going off topic then people will post something that you might consider to be off topic, and when they are replied to by someone, then the topic will start changing from the thread/post you started.

Therefore as soon as someone post in thread and its a thread that you created and you feel like there post is not on the topic you started, then if you thought they were derailing your thread/post, you should speak to them about it immediately and be sure to reply to the party you want to notify using the (reply with quote)so that you can politely let them/everyone know that they have been identified/notified.

There are of course times when the subject needs to be changed. There are many threads where the subject is carefully formed and presented to lead folks astray. There are other times when malicious folks hijack a thread for their own gratification. It seems impossible for an open forum like this to be free of many of these problems. The mods do a good job of keeping things from getting completely out of hand but too much restriction causes problems too and often no useful discussion on any of the subjects which is real bad.

Each can do their part by posting positive things and not endeavoring to destroy the other party for self fulfillment. We are to build one another up in the faith to glorify God. We are also set to defend the faith once and for all delivered to the Saints.

For the cause of Christ

Hi AJ,
Actually the issue is derailment, whether intentional or not. It is the OP's responsibility to constantly keep the thread on track seeing it would take about 3 dozen mods to do it otherwise, lol.

the best we can do is repost our thread statement every so often & remind the people to stay on track. If they refuse, then call a mod.

In the past I've had to make special statements in the opening thread NOT to derail or dispute within the thread. Sometimes it works, & other times the thread won't even take off because posters are afraid to post.

If you mean well in a thread, a posting war will ensue just to shut you up or make you look stupid. Satan don't keep da'rules ya'know. :p

Most threads have run their course after about two pages, after that they go to seed.

Thank you all for your responses. I guess the thing to do is keep an eye on the post and re posting the topic to try and keep the responses on track

We learn more,
If there is an off topic I pray and ask God how does this fit in,
and then I see they usually fit in somehow and give a different perspective

If someone is spreading false teachings (a sinless life now, no trinity, Jesus not being the Son of God etc), I either try to derail the thread with randomosity or join in with others doing the same thing. Otherwise, I keep on topic.

Sometimes someone throws in a question about something else - I try to answer if possible.

Hi AJ,
Actually the issue is derailment, whether intentional or not. It is the OP's responsibility to constantly keep the thread on track seeing it would take about 3 dozen mods to do it otherwise, lol.
is it the responsibility of the OP to keep everyone in line, or is it all of our responsibilities to keep ourselves on track?

but on topic, i can't explain why people act the way that they do. we're all a bunch of morons, collectively, as a species, if you ask me.
this happens to not only every thread in this forum, but to most threads on all forums across the entire internet. it's an interesting sociological question, though, is it more prevalent here, and why? how does this site compare to the off-topic-personal-vendetta-ness of say, political forums?

i can't answer. like i said, i chalk it up to the human condition amplified by religious zealotry, + trolls, and just try to keep my own self from derailing conversations & debate.

in all honesty, wherever we are gathered together to magnify Christ, guess where the enemy is, tugging at the minds of people at their keyboards? it's not God's plan that we divide & attack each other, stray away from the Truth, and become involved in all kinds of meaningless talk.

I can be guilty of this, though i do not mean to derail, my mind seems to be prompted.

At the time i post it seems relevant, only later someone will inform me, or i will realize what i have done.

Though, many fruitful conversations have been had through thread topic development.
