Philippians 1

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Thanksgiving

1 Paul and Timothy, bond-servants of Christ Jesus,

To all the [SUP][a][/SUP]saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, [SUP][b][/SUP]including the overseers and deacons: [SUP]2 [/SUP]Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, [SUP]4 [/SUP]always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, [SUP]5 [/SUP]in view of your [SUP][c][/SUP]participation in the gospel from the first day until now. [SUP]6 [/SUP]For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. [SUP]7 [/SUP][SUP][d][/SUP]For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my [SUP][e][/SUP]imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the [SUP][f][/SUP]affection of Christ Jesus. [SUP]9 [/SUP]And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, [SUP]10 [/SUP]so that you may [SUP][g][/SUP]approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless [SUP][h][/SUP]until the day of Christ; [SUP]11 [/SUP]having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

The Gospel Is Preached

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, [SUP]13 [/SUP]so that my [SUP][i][/SUP]imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole [SUP][j][/SUP]praetorian guard and to everyone else, [SUP]14 [/SUP]and that most of the [SUP][k][/SUP]brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my [SUP][l][/SUP]imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even [SUP][m][/SUP]from envy and strife, but some also [SUP][n][/SUP]from good will; [SUP]16 [/SUP]the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; [SUP]17 [/SUP]the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition [SUP][o][/SUP]rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my [SUP][p][/SUP]imprisonment. [SUP]18 [/SUP]What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will rejoice, [SUP]19 [/SUP]for I know that this will turn out for my [SUP][q][/SUP]deliverance through your [SUP][r][/SUP]prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, [SUP]20 [/SUP]according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

To Live Is Christ

[SUP]21 [/SUP]For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. [SUP]22 [/SUP][SUP][s][/SUP]But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know [SUP][t][/SUP]which to choose. [SUP]23 [/SUP]But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; [SUP]24 [/SUP]yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. [SUP]25 [/SUP]Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy [SUP][u][/SUP]in the faith, [SUP]26 [/SUP]so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.

[SUP]27 [/SUP]Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one [SUP][v][/SUP]mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; [SUP]28 [/SUP]in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. [SUP]29 [/SUP]For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, [SUP]30 [/SUP]experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

John 14

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

14 “Do not let your heart be troubled; [SUP][a][/SUP]believe in God, believe also in Me. [SUP]2 [/SUP]In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. [SUP]3 [/SUP]If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. [SUP]4 [/SUP]And you know the way where I am going.” [SUP]5 [/SUP]Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” [SUP]6 [/SUP]Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Oneness with the Father

[SUP]7 [/SUP]If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

[SUP]8 [/SUP]Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” [SUP]9 [/SUP]Jesus *said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? [SUP]10 [/SUP]Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. [SUP]12 [/SUP]Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. [SUP]14 [/SUP]If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Role of the Spirit

[SUP]16 [/SUP]I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [SUP][b][/SUP]Helper, that He may be with you forever; [SUP]17 [/SUP]that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

[SUP]18 [/SUP]“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. [SUP]19 [/SUP][SUP][c][/SUP]After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. [SUP]20 [/SUP]In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. [SUP]21 [/SUP]He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” [SUP]22 [/SUP]Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” [SUP]23 [/SUP]Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. [SUP]24 [/SUP]He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

[SUP]25 [/SUP]“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. [SUP]26 [/SUP]But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. [SUP]27 [/SUP]Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. [SUP]28 [/SUP]You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. [SUP]30 [/SUP]I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; [SUP]31 [/SUP]but so that the world may know that I love the Father, [SUP][d][/SUP]I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.

1 John 2

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Christ Is Our Advocate

1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an [SUP][a][/SUP]Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; [SUP]2 [/SUP]and He Himself is the [SUP][b][/SUP]propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. [SUP]4 [/SUP]The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; [SUP]5 [/SUP]but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: [SUP]6 [/SUP]the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. [SUP]8 [/SUP][SUP][c][/SUP]On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. [SUP]9 [/SUP]The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. [SUP]10 [/SUP]The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. [SUP]11 [/SUP]But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
[SUP]
12 [/SUP]I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. [SUP]13 [/SUP]I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. [SUP]14 [/SUP]I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

[SUP]15 [/SUP]Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [SUP]16 [/SUP]For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. [SUP]17 [/SUP]The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
[SUP]
18 [/SUP]Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. [SUP]19 [/SUP]They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that [SUP][d][/SUP]it would be shown that they all are not of us. [SUP]20 [/SUP][SUP][e][/SUP]But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. [SUP]21 [/SUP]I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and [SUP][f][/SUP]because no lie is of the truth. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the [SUP][g][/SUP]Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. [SUP]23 [/SUP]Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. [SUP]24 [/SUP]As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

The Promise Is Eternal Life

[SUP]25 [/SUP]This is the promise which He Himself [SUP][h][/SUP]made to us: eternal life.
[SUP]
26 [/SUP]These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. [SUP]27 [/SUP]As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, [SUP][i][/SUP]you abide in Him.
[SUP]
28 [/SUP]Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not [SUP][j][/SUP]shrink away from Him in shame [SUP][k][/SUP]at His coming. [SUP]29 [/SUP]If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is [SUP][l][/SUP]born of Him.

1 John 3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Children of God Love One Another

3 See [SUP][a][/SUP]how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. [SUP]3 [/SUP]And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. [SUP]5 [/SUP]You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. [SUP]6 [/SUP]No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or [SUP][b][/SUP]knows Him. [SUP]7 [/SUP]Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; [SUP]8 [/SUP]the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil [SUP][c][/SUP]has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. [SUP]9 [/SUP]No one who is [SUP][d][/SUP]born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is [SUP][e][/SUP]born of God. [SUP]10 [/SUP]By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: [SUP][f][/SUP]anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; [SUP]12 [/SUP]not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. [SUP]14 [/SUP]We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. [SUP]16 [/SUP]We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. [SUP]17 [/SUP]But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his [SUP][g][/SUP]heart [SUP][h][/SUP]against him, how does the love of God abide in him? [SUP]18 [/SUP]Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. [SUP]19 [/SUP]We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will [SUP][i][/SUP]assure our heart before Him [SUP]20 [/SUP][SUP][j][/SUP]in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. [SUP]21 [/SUP]Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence [SUP][k][/SUP]before God; [SUP]22 [/SUP]and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

[SUP]23 [/SUP]This is His commandment, that we [SUP][l][/SUP]believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He [SUP][m][/SUP]commanded us. [SUP]24 [/SUP]The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Philippians 4

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Think of Excellence

4 Therefore, my beloved brethren [SUP][a][/SUP]whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
[SUP]
2 [/SUP]I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to [SUP][b][/SUP]live in harmony in the Lord. [SUP]3 [/SUP]Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
[SUP]
4 [/SUP]Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! [SUP]5 [/SUP]Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is [SUP][c][/SUP]near. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [SUP]7 [/SUP]And the peace of God, which surpasses all [SUP][d][/SUP]comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
[SUP]
8 [/SUP]Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is [SUP][e][/SUP]lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, [SUP][f][/SUP]dwell on these things. [SUP]9 [/SUP]The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

God’s Provisions

[SUP]10 [/SUP]But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Not that I speak [SUP][g][/SUP]from want, for I have learned to be [SUP][h][/SUP]content in whatever circumstances I am. [SUP]12 [/SUP]I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. [SUP]13 [/SUP]I can do all things [SUP][i][/SUP]through Him who strengthens me. [SUP]14 [/SUP]Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction.
[SUP]
15 [/SUP]You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the [SUP][j][/SUP]first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; [SUP]16 [/SUP]for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. [SUP]17 [/SUP]Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the [SUP][k][/SUP]profit which increases to your account. [SUP]18 [/SUP]But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am [SUP][l][/SUP]amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus [SUP][m][/SUP]what you have sent, [SUP][n][/SUP]a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. [SUP]19 [/SUP]And my God will supply [SUP][o][/SUP]all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. [SUP]20 [/SUP]Now to our God and Father be the glory [SUP][p][/SUP]forever and ever. Amen.
[SUP]
21 [/SUP]Greet every [SUP][q][/SUP]saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. [SUP]22 [/SUP]All the [SUP][r][/SUP]saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
[SUP]
23 [/SUP]The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Habakkuk 3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

God’s Deliverance of His People

3 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to [SUP][a][/SUP]Shigionoth.

[SUP]2 [/SUP]Lord, I have heard [SUP][b][/SUP]the report about You and [SUP][c][/SUP]I fear.
O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years,
In the midst of the years make it known;
In wrath remember [SUP][d][/SUP]mercy.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]God comes from Teman,
And the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah.
His splendor covers the heavens,
And the earth is full of His praise.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]His radiance is like the sunlight;
He has rays flashing from His hand,
And there is the hiding of His power.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Before Him goes pestilence,
And plague comes [SUP][e][/SUP]after Him.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]He stood and surveyed the earth;
He looked and startled the nations.
Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered,
The ancient hills [SUP][f][/SUP]collapsed.
His ways are everlasting.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]I saw the tents of Cushan under distress,
The tent curtains of the land of Midian were trembling.

[SUP]8 [/SUP]Did the Lord rage against the rivers,
Or was Your anger against the rivers,
Or was Your wrath against the sea,
That You rode on Your horses,
On Your chariots of salvation?
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Your bow was made bare,
The rods of [SUP][g][/SUP]chastisement were sworn. Selah.
You cleaved the earth with rivers.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]The mountains saw You and quaked;
The downpour of waters swept by.
The deep uttered forth its voice,
It lifted high its hands.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Sun and moon stood in their places;
They went away at the light of Your arrows,
At the radiance of Your gleaming spear.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]In indignation You marched through the earth;
In anger You [SUP][h][/SUP]trampled the nations.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]You went forth for the salvation of Your people,
For the salvation of Your anointed.
You struck the head of the house of the evil
To lay him open from [SUP][i][/SUP]thigh to neck. Selah.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]You pierced with his own [SUP][j][/SUP]spears
The head of his [SUP][k][/SUP]throngs.
They stormed in to scatter [SUP][l][/SUP]us;
Their exultation was like those
Who devour the oppressed in secret.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]You trampled on the sea with Your horses,
On the surge of many waters.

[SUP]16 [/SUP]I heard and my [SUP][m][/SUP]inward parts trembled,
At the sound my lips quivered.
Decay enters my bones,
And in my place I tremble.
Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress,
[SUP][n][/SUP]For the people to arise who will invade us.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no [SUP][o][/SUP]fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]The Lord [SUP][p][/SUP]God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.

For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.

Ephesians 4

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Unity of the Spirit

4 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, [SUP]2 [/SUP]with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, [SUP]3 [/SUP]being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [SUP]4 [/SUP]There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; [SUP]5 [/SUP]one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [SUP]6 [/SUP]one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Therefore [SUP][a][/SUP]it says,

“When He ascended on high,
He led captive a host of captives,
And He gave gifts to men.”
[SUP]
9 [/SUP](Now this expression, “He ascended,” what [SUP][b][/SUP]does it mean except that He also [SUP][c][/SUP]had descended into the lower parts of the earth? [SUP]10 [/SUP]He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) [SUP]11 [/SUP]And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, [SUP]12 [/SUP]for the equipping of the [SUP][d][/SUP]saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; [SUP]13 [/SUP]until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the [SUP][e][/SUP]knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature [SUP][f][/SUP]which belongs to the fullness of Christ. [SUP]14 [/SUP][SUP][g][/SUP]As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness [SUP][h][/SUP]in deceitful scheming; [SUP]15 [/SUP]but [SUP][i][/SUP]speaking the truth in love, [SUP][j][/SUP]we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, [SUP]16 [/SUP]from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together [SUP][k][/SUP]by what every joint supplies, according to the [SUP][l][/SUP]proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

The Christian’s Walk

[SUP]17 [/SUP]So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, [SUP]18 [/SUP]being darkened in their understanding, [SUP][m][/SUP]excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; [SUP]19 [/SUP]and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality [SUP][n][/SUP]for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. [SUP]20 [/SUP]But you did not learn [SUP][o][/SUP]Christ in this way, [SUP]21 [/SUP]if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, [SUP]22 [/SUP]that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old [SUP][p][/SUP]self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, [SUP]23 [/SUP]and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [SUP]24 [/SUP]and put on the new [SUP][q][/SUP]self, which [SUP][r][/SUP]in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
[SUP]
25 [/SUP]Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. [SUP]26 [/SUP]Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, [SUP]27 [/SUP]and do not give the devil [SUP][s][/SUP]an opportunity. [SUP]28 [/SUP]He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with [SUP][t][/SUP]one who has need. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Let no [SUP][u][/SUP]unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification [SUP][v][/SUP]according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. [SUP]30 [/SUP]Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, [SUP][w][/SUP]by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. [SUP]31 [/SUP]Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. [SUP]32 [/SUP]Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven [SUP][x][/SUP]you.
