The word tells us that we are to live through Christ, yet today's world is filled with things of the pagans, myths, and idols. Even the name of the days of the week! We have no holidays we celebrate that are given to us by the Lord. The Sabbath changed to Sunday isn't in scripture, it is based on that it was discovered that Christ had risen on Sunday, but scripture doesn't tell us when He rose. The word Easter isn't in original scripture, and when Constantine spoke about it being part of the Nicene Council he said that we must not have Passover for the Jews had that and we must not do anything the Jews did. (I am paraphrasing that). Christmas is a holiday that isn't suggested once in scripture, but was a Christian way of celebrating the winter solstice.

God gave us holidays to celebrate--they are a celebration of God's plan for our redemption. Every Friday night there is a celebration over supper with singing, love, and family. The world hasn't added commercialism, eggs as in Easter, football as in Thanksgiving, or any of worldly things to those God given celebrations.

The results of the part of Christmas that is celebrating the birth of Christ has been uplifting to even our agnostic world, I should think that following God would be much better.
What's the name of this celebration?

Have you ever seen how kids react when their parents try to put them on Santa's lap? That spirits collide like freight trains and the kid starts crying. Mommy and daddy hop around and tell little Johnny/Suzy "it's ok, it's ok" but that kid is just not ok. (anything for the sake of a good picture to post on facebook or whatever.......)

We are so out of touch with God's reality sometimes. If your kid picks it up listen to them :p
Good grief. It's because Santa is a stranger in a costume. Nothing more. Kids don't like strangers and big beards scare some children.

Tintin, if you want to defend their honour I am ok with that :) again no skin of my nose. I don't believe in their religion and I don't keep Christmas or Easter so I actually don't care. I know the information is available and we can decide what we want to believe.

If I look at Christmas and Easter, the commercial side is a warning about where it is from.
I'm not defending anyone's honour, I want the truth. If you're opposed to Christmas, fine. But do it based on truthful sources and your own convictions, not sloppy 'scholarship'. I failed to mention Josephus originally made the Nimrod and Semiramis connection, not Hislop. But Hislop picked it up and ran with it. Again, they lived over a thousand years apart from each other, hence they couldn't have been son and mother and wife.

LOL I don't know brother, have you smelled his breath lately?

Tintin, our kids are more in tune with God than what we think. It is up to us to figure it out. My son is an extrovert (like my wife) but Santa was never his friend. Something was off there and I never forced him to speak to that red old guy ;). He ask me for a present.... and if I can I buy it for him.

I was never raised to believe in Father Christmas. I think the focus at Christmas should always be on Jesus. I think there's too much of a focus on Father Christmas in general, but I don't think he's intrinsically bad news. Besides, I'm a Christian with German ancestry (way back) so we always opened our presents on Christmas Eve. Kind of buggered it up for Santa.

You are defending the lady's honour Tintin ;).

The truth (as we can see on the BDF) is sometimes a grey area brother. We should decide what we want to believe if we look at the information presented to us.

Welcome to the club. I am also from a strong German ancestry but we kept traditional Christmas and I defended it for many years. I changed over the last ten years or so and I thank God for that :)

What lady? I couldn't give a rip about Mary. I'm not pro-Catholic. I worship Jesus, alone. And sometimes with others.

Awesome work! Following Christ and not our peers is what it's all about. Whether it be a pagan day or any other, come judgement day, God will ask for an answer about every breath we took, whether it was for the enemy or for Him. Following Him in every way, small and big, every day, is the true cause of celebration. Not pagan days scattered throughout the year and behaving under darkness and deception the rest.

The Jewish Sabbath was on a Saturday though, not a Friday.
Why are you calling it 'the JEWISH Sabbath ? Don't you read scripture ??? yet you have plenty of opinions ....perhaps a little more study ?

You are right, God does not even want HIS name to be mentioned with pagan practices....
it's called POLLUTING !!! Are there not enough other days in the year to honour God ?

Because, as a Christian, Jesus Christ is my Sabbath. Every day should be lived for Him. This is part of the New Covenant.

We're to live in the world, not of the world. You can't avoid living in this world, so how about you live of it? Which day of the year would you like to honour God without the pollution of pagan influence?

Sunday - dies Solis (Sun's Day)?
Monday - Monandaeg (Moon's Day)?
Tuesday - Tyr's Day?
Wednesday - Woden's Day (Odin)?
Thursday - Torsdag (Thor's Day)?
Friday - Frigg's Day?
Saturday - dies Saturni (Saturn's Day)?

Oh, bother. It looks like even the days of the week have names that honour the pagan Roman and Norse gods and goddesses. So what's your solution? As for me and my house, we're going to serve the LORD in Spirit and in truth.

so because we live in a fallen world we are 'unable to ''hear GOD ?
good excuse ! Did God sanctify and hallow every day of the week ?
