No we are under grace not law.
Colossians 3:16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

and at the sound of the trump.
You added "trump."

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col 3:16 (KJV)

in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,—Singing is one way of getting the word of Christ into the heart of the hearers. By speaking in songs they are to teach and admonish one another, by bringing the thoughts and feelings of the heart into harmony with the sentiment of the songs. These are the ends and purposes of the worship of the song service. To present the sentiment in song helps to carry the impression to the heart. The thoughts held in the words do the teaching and admonishing, the song is the vehicle by which the sentiments are conveyed to the heart of those who hear and understand.

Instrumental accompaniment does not aid in conveying the thoughts and sentiments to the heart of those who hear. It hinders, rather than helps. The words must be heard and distinctly understood and the sentiments apprehended to effect this end. The instrumental service hinders and diverts the mind from, instead of aiding in, this work. If it aids at all, it is in the execution of the musical performance.

This is the danger point and the bane of the song service, that it be diverted to a musical performance to entertain, instead of service to God. The instrumental performance helps to corrupt it at its weakest point, and really hinders it in the main end and purpose for which God ordained it.God knew what is in man, and knew exactly what would be best to effect his purpose. He did not ordain instrumental music in his service. For man to bring it in is at once to impugn the wisdom of the Almighty and to corrupt his service and pervert the end of his appointment.

The mechanical instrument occupies the leading, not the secondary, part in time and sound, in the service where it is used. It usurps the chief or principal place, and the singing is done as a mere accompaniment of the instrumental service. The attention and thoughts are diverted from the sentiment of the song to the symphonies of the mechanical instrument. It defeats the chief end of the song, the moral and spiritual impression on the heart, and in the musical performance is not an aid, but a hindrance, and makes the singing a minor accompaniment to the instrumental performance. It defeats and perverts the service ordained by God, both in the aim and in the performance.

singing with grace in your hearts unto God.—We are to sing in the the favor of God, our song being prompted by his great goodness to us. The melody of the lips coming from and filling the heart. Whatever goes up to God must fill the heart. In the parallel passage it is said: "And... be filled with the Spirit; speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord." (Eph. 5:18, 19.)

These passages mean exactly the same. To "be filled with the Spirit" and to have the "word of Christ dwell in you richly" are one and the same thing; to sing and make melody in the heart to the Lord and to sing with grace in the heart are one and the same thing, and mean to bring the thoughts and feelings into harmony with the sentiment sung. It is the sentiment that is sung that constitutes the worship; there is no acceptable worship in music distinct from the sentiment sung. The music of the song is only the means of impressing the sentiment sung more deeply on the hearts of both singer and hearer. What is sung must be the outgrowth of the rich indwelling of the word of Christ in the heart. The purpose is to praise God and teach the word of Christ.

It is impossible not to give your attention or worship the musical performers: you cannot do two things at the same time.

Let's hope these people are not engaged in a trumpet quartet when the last trump sounds or maybe HAS sounded since even musical churches have been attacked by wannabe professionals.

The WORD of God is the LOGOS: The Logos is God's Regulative or Governing principle. Logos is opposite clergy singers, instrument players, actors.

The Jews had a COVENANT WITH DEATH AND HELL: they were abandoned because of instrumental idolatry at Mount Sinai.

Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto ......wizards that peep, and that mutter:
......should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Amos and the musical people were holding a feast WITH and FOR dead ancestors. These peepers and mutterers were performing musical rituals trying to arouse or awaken their god Who always seems missing from them

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony:
......if they speak not according to this WORD,
......it is because there is no light in them.

Dabar or Logos especially in the Prophets by the Spirit OF Christ radically condemns musical performers as being hypocrites (Ezekiel 33) and making certain that people could not hear the Word of God. In Amos 8 and Isaiah 5 the MUSICAL FOLLY caused the people to hunger and thirst for the Word. This is when God had been that there and said I WILL NOT PASS BY HEAR AGAIN.

The Will of the Lord or "Spirit" in Ephesians 5 is the Word of the Lord in Colossians 3. The purpose was to teach and comfort and musical instruments can do neither.

As a member of the Church of Christ I cannot believe what has happened in the last twenty years in which some Churches of Christ have decided to add instruments to their worshipping, which I feel is a sin. If you are a member of a Church of Christ who has instruments in your church, tell me where you got your authorization to do this? What has changed in the last twenty years to change how you have decided to worship with instruments when the Churches of Christ prior to the last twenty years were always instrument free .
Hi Shava It gives me great joy when someone has a genuine desire to find out if something is wrong or right, singing songs of praise to God with or without musical instrument does not matter to God. What matters is obeying God's word....
[h=3]John 4:23-26[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]23 [/SUP]But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

1 Samuel 18:6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.

1 Chronicles 15:15

5 And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord.
16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
17 So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

1 Chronicles 16:42
And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.

2 Chronicles 5:13It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord;

2 Chronicles 7:6And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also withinstruments of musick of the Lord, which David the king had made to praise the Lord, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.

2 Chronicles 23:13And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.

2 Chronicles 29:26And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

2 Chronicles 30:21And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the Lord day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the Lord.

2 Chronicles 34:12And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.

Nehemiah 12:36And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them.

Psalm 68:25The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels.

Psalm 150:4Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Isaiah 38:20The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

Habakkuk 3:19The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

I guess the snake on the pole is OT also or why don't we just do away with the OT.

Matthew 24:31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

1 Corinthians 15:52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed

1 Thessalonians 4:16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Hebrews 12:19And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

Revelation 1:10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

You really think all He has is a trumpet?

Old Testament Scriptures.

why do you throw away the Old Testament as though the Spirit doesn't teach us from it? Jesus didn't.

Then he said to them,
These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.
(Luke 12:44)

Instruments or not is not the issue, it is the state of the heart that is the issue. Is it a stony heart or a Godly heart that worship? Easy to test the heart. PRAY and ask God something.... ANYTHING... if you get what you ask, your heart is GODLY. If you do not get what you ask your hart is STONE.

God does not listen to the hearts of sinners (stone hearts) and God does not say no to the Godly hearts (His holy people). Same with worship as worship is His people gsayin THANK YOU LORD for what they have recieved.... That is all worship is... Giving God the glory of GODLY HEARTS.

Worship is: HOLY PEOPLE SAYING THANK YOU TO GOD and LIVING IN GOD'S WILL. It is a gathering of HOLY PEOPLE, saying thank you in holiness to a HOLY GOD. It is not a gathering of sinners seeking favour from God. I think this short verse should show you all what I try to show Scripture teach about worshipping... Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Very good statement, but what has that to with musical instruments being played while one worships, some say that it is wrong and even demonic to have an instrument play while in worship.

They are poems and cannot be sung tunefully. Even so no one in your church will let you sing a single psalm "for your learning." And God will carry you beyond Babylon which expression meant "with no possibility of return."

Kerry I can show you all verses that tells us how to worship God, but you still miss the point. Worship in singing is the SAME as in LIVING out God's will. It has to be IN HIM. Oh Kerry my friend, PLEASE tell me this... How many times will God repeat Himself?

You say that this song "SAY THE NAME" is WORSHIP? WOW! That is NOT WORSHIP. It is this..... But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Kerry worship in song is EXACTLY like prayer.... Find me a Psalm that reapeats the words OVER AND OVER AND OVER again untill like we get nauteous of the Words. God says this is what He will SPIT OUT.... This ACTING Holy and repeating Words over and over like the HEATHENS do. Acting holy is LUKE WARM....

Holy people do not repeat words.... And here is how to JUDGE all worshipping Kerry..... Is it in TRUTH and does God WITNESS with the worship? If God does not witness in the worshipping, then it is NOT FROM GOD. Instruments are fine as Psalms says, And Worshipping in song only is also fine as 1 Cor 14 says. But the WITNESS of God with POWER has to be there or it is NOT OF GOD.

If we sing a Psalm and the Psalm says we will be HEALED by Him, then NO PERSON IN THAT CHURCH SHOULD LEAVE THERE SICK or LAME! That is how God witness with His people. That is how the POWER of the Holy Spirit EMPOWERS GOD'S PEOPLE IN WORSHIP.

But you know this do you not Kerry! You might reject it but you know this. Please my friend BELIEVE the Name of God... His name is: THE WORD OF GOD! Revelation 19.
Kerry here is the Truth as by God in HIS WORD.... Psalm 28 says I will praise him with my song.... and Psalm 81 says...
Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
Psa 81:3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

So it is BOTH song (singing with voice only or with musical instruments) both Psalms and many other songs..... but it has to be on a PURE HEART.. Or God does not listen....

Kerry also there will be OTHER songs not only Psalms, but it has to be HIS STATUTES,.... God's INPUT in the SONG... And God does not use repititions... Please know this.... Here is the verse that says songs with God's STATUTES,....Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

One of God's STATUTES is ..... DO NOT REPEAT WORDS AS HEATHENS DO....

I believe singing is the purest form of praise we can give to our Father. Instruments to me interfere with the pure spiritual connection between God and his creation, because God created man, and man created instruments. So this would be my feelings on why possibly God desired singing only.
Shava you make a mother of a mistake thinking that way.... LIVIN OUT LIGHT is the purest and most powerful worship to God! Why? Becasue God is the LIGHT in the ones that live out the will of God.

Jesus did not walk around SINGING in fact i do not recall Him ever to sing. But pray... YES, and living out God's Word and will YES! and preaching Truth even if the people hate what He preach.... YES! Like Him I will NEVER hold back what God gives me. If God tells me to tell you that you are wrong, then I will tell you! Like I do now.

When people sing to God and I lock my hearing then I can see their hearts and boy does that look sick some times. Like when the internet freeze while downloading this video of this Charmaine Bridgeman, the expression of the eyes and face is of one having pain. Jesus NEVER revealed the spirit she does. NEVER! And even judging the song itself is judging the spirit that comiled the song... it is HEATHEN!

I listen to the WORDS and they say.....ANTI CHRSIT all the way. I listen to what people say in their WORSHIP and it says ANTI CHRIST.. why? Because they do not CONFESS that Jesus has come in the flesh.... To confess is not to SAY it is words or in song it is TO LIVE IT OUT!!!! To confess is to sonfess with your WHOLE HEART SOUL AND FLESH...... If a person says Jesus is come in the flesh and cannot PROOVE it with his own flesh then why SAY IT? God says HE will WITNESS (Show) with His people that they are His! And he does it by POWER of HIMSELF. To perfect that person is the POWER! Unto a perfect man God says in Eph 4.

How can a person NOT be perfect if Jesus came in his or her flesh? The person that CONFESSETH with a PERFECT HEART SOUL AND BODY is a person that cofesseth that Jesus came in the FLESH!!!! Look here.....

1 JOhn 4... Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Jn 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1Jn 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

To confess with ONLY the mouth is NOT CONFESSING at all! It is FALSE then! Only the Spirit of God can confess Jesus, and only people with the SPirit of God is perfect and sinneth not. So it is easy to judge, even see if you yourself still need the Spirit of God. I do! But at least I know I do.

So many says they have the Spirit of God in them, and yet they sin. Now that just BAFFLES me when God says this, and I believe the SEED is the Spirit of God.. the JESUS IN THE FLESH..... 1 John 3:9.... Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

This is the only time that I know of Jesus singing in scripture. Just FYI.

KSublett;1476124 Logos is opposite clergy singers said:
Let's hope you don't watch TV if you believe that.

What about that prophet who commanded by the Lord for someone to hit him, appeared to the king of Israel, and pretended to be a wounded soldier, then gave him the word of the Lord?

The Jews had a COVENANT WITH DEATH AND HELL: they were abandoned because of instrumental idolatry at Mount Sinai.
That last sentence is more nonsense. The Bible teaches no such thing.

These peepers and mutterers were performing musical rituals trying to arouse or awaken their god Who always seems missing from them
Your comments on the passage are based on nothing factual

Notice that the God of Israel was not missing, and neither was His kavod after these people played instruments:

2 Chronicles 5:13It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord

Let's take a look at the Isaiah 5 passage:

[SUP]11 [/SUP]Woe to those who rise early in the morning
to run after their drinks,
who stay up late at night
till they are inflamed with wine.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]They have harps and lyres at their banquets,
pipes and timbrels and wine,
but they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord,
no respect for the work of his hands.

Believe it or not, but lots of people who praise God to the sound of musical instruments are tee-totalers when it comes to alcohol. If instrumental music is mentioned in some sort of negative context, you try to create a doctrine that instrumental music is evil. But when it is used in a positive sense, you resort to a very unbelieving liberal type approach to the Bible mixed with a kind of conspiracy theory approach.

Reading your posts, it seems like you have a cloud of confusion over you that you seem to mistake for spiritual enlightenment.

As wild as some of your arguments and inferences about the Greek language is, why don't you apply a milder form of this reasoning to the word 'psallo.' If the Bible commands singing psalms, and the word for psalms comes from a root meaning to strum, then you should be in favor of instruments. My guess is you will have a very convoluted Greek-language conspiracy theory about the Greek word for psalm, too.
