If your church is going to have bingo time, it is my opinion that all the proceeds should go to a charity. If the monies don't go to helping others than that wouldn't be a good event.

Does the end justify the means when it comes to spiritual worship, conversion and the truth.....that is the question....My view....preach the word and let the chips fall where they at fall.....someone won by the truth will be kept by the truth.............most overlook how Jesus worshipped and assembled with his disciples....

Let's see............. "I went to this church that didn't seem to care if I was there or not..... But the preacher told everyone they were going to be sent to Hell by a god who loved them if they did not shape-up. So I got baptized to keep from burning."

or

"I really seemed welcome at this other church. Like they honestly wanted to know me. So I got baptized because I wanted what they had."

A hard choice...................

It might surprise you how many people are baptized for fire insurance.

I know you have to have heard, right here, just how utterly boring many people find sitting in church to be.

In my early thirties, before I got baptized, I used to attend a "nice" evangelical church. There were many "interesting" activities that made up for the boring sermon.

By God's mercy, a few years later I was invited to attend a real Christian church and then I realized that the previous one was a social club rather than a church.

Is it OK to lure people into church with dinners, raffles and bingos? Is it OK for churches to entertain people more than they teach the true word of God?
In writing, there is something called "the writer's promise." It means that if my story starts out as a romance, it better not end up a mystery. Whatever the writer starts with is promised to the audience. If the promise is broken, you lose the audience.

Same thing with churches. If you promise people social activities, a spiffy-nifty jam session, and coffee and pastries, that's what they expect every week. Changing the venue makes the audience disappear.

So, feel free to lure people into whatever you want to call it. Just know that people who expect something when they go to church will leave, if they're not given what they expect.

As for me? I'm there to be edified and to edify. I'm there for God's purposes. Besides, I can get the rest at better places. (And, I simply don't like coffee, so I'll find the diet-decaf cola as needed.)

Kind of reminds me of some peeps crossing a lake for some bread, though one prefered hanging with any...

many folks have been brought up thinking that 'playing-the-games' is a part of
being in the 'body', doing whatever to 'rake-in' the profits, never giving a thought
to where the 'profits' are going or for the 'reason' they are there in the first place...
it's usually a personal 'head-thing'...

Jesus' prophets never sought profits of the world, this is a great separator
of men and women from what is from God and what is from man...

if we are truly called, Jesus will show us the difference at some point in our journey,
and make us aware and show us how to make ourselves right in His eyes...

I get my education from the Bible and Holy Spirit. I don't trust others, including pastors, to educate me. I politely sit while my pastor preaches, unless it gets too long, in which case I might start fidgeting.

Yeah, I can identify with what you're saying. All the social events, modern music, etc. are just window dressings. Sure there's nothing wrong with those things. But as I've grown older I am less inclined to those things, and more desirous of studying the word of God. Give me a good, insightful sermon these days, and I could do without all the other stuff.

acts 2:42-47 "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

this is what the church should resemble, if the real word is preached, Love and fellowship will be there as well. when you find a church where people actually care about your needs, your struggles, and they are teaching the things Jesus taught to His apostles it will glorify the Lord and shine that those around may find hope and be drawn to light in a dark world.
