I suppose many of us have a bend towards ruffling feathers at times but some are just blatant.....for example.....let's imagine for a second striking up a conversation with a dear old elder gentleman that attends your church, walks with a cane and has the joy of child and always greets you with the most authentic warm spirit....about the merits of lust.

It's no wonder some on here think we're all a bunch willful sinning pagans.

Anyways, I don't mean to cause offense to the lust thread author. It just so happened that it was the post that brought this to mind for me. Lol

IMO, if people can't handle a little bit of ruffled feathers, then they should not post nor reply to a response that criticizes THEIR response. If ya can't take the heat, honey, then get outta the kitchen.. :)

I'm very fond of a few members here with whom I've shared some ruffling. Growing pains and grace make for great brotherhood and sisterhood.

Sirk, my post was not a backhanded comment at you and I hope you didn't perceive it that way.

Way too much love for you, Bro!

I think we've all managed to step over the line at some point and ruffle a feather or two. Me, for example? I've left lumps, cuts, bruises, and very likely visits to the ER if not the psych ward -- and in that respect, it's all part of my secret plot to enrich my fellow counselors, psychologists, and psych nurses.

Sometimes I think threads are started because some bee has gotten under our own bonnets. That's not a reflection on anyone, and certainly not on the "lust thread" OP, but when we struggle with an issue, we want to toss it out there for discussion. Maybe we're feeling guilty enough about it that we want to justify it instead of just discuss it.

Too often, that is because we would rather hear the imperfect words of our fellow sojourners through this foreign land than deal with the chastisement and discipline of the Heavenly Father. Maybe everyone should resolve to look at what they're typing into this small little box and ask, "Why am I doing this?" and "Why am I feeling the need to discuss this, if it is a personal issue that I need to deal with?"

We'd probably all be better off if we took our problems to Christ for intercession with the Father, who will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, reveal all things to us for our edification, sanctification, and personal ministry.

There it is right there. It seems that at different times we are so quick to assume that someone is an enemy. One of the character traits of Jesus....no matter how mental someone was... He could see the heart. Lol.

Ok...go ahead..pile on...I left it wide open for you. Lol

I don't mind a little heat and it is to be expected when discussing religion and or politics.....Iron sharpens Iron and I know for sure that I ruffle feathers every day in some form or fashion.......I have always been one to just say it and or one of the few that will state the obvious when others are too afraid to speak up....gets me in trouble many times...oh well!

As an honest assessment....is there anyone here who has the propensity to take certain individuals comments on here personally? I'm not asking to name names or anything.

I know that for me, I've learned to read peoples posts with an attitude that they are smiling when they write it. Lol...no matter how vehemently I disagree. Lol.

I've also gotten better at measuring my words. haha...you really don't want me without my filter turned on.. Lol.

I've actually got a mental list... well, really three or four lists that register different ways when I simply SEE different names, without even opening the posts. And it ranges from Oh, _____! to Ho Hum... depending upon the name seen.

Thankfully, there are quite a few names that make me smile in anticipation of their comments.

Well said, as always. I think our lists are pretty similar. :)

The bible talks about controversial topics, and lust is one of them. This thread is the place to discuss whatever the bible does. If someone is studying, it is more that likely they have the maturity to discuss it with others who are also studying. This setting can't be compared to the setting out in public where it would be awkward to say, "Hi, how are you doing today? Know of any good verses on lust, I'm studying the topic." Everyone needs to know these things because we will be judged someday, and although every setting is not the correct time and place, this is the correct place to discuss it- as the thread's name indicates.

It's not the controversial topics that irk me, it's the non controversial topics that "others" turn into a controversy that irk me

I have surrounded myself with many very conservative Believers, whom I respect too much to challenge their positions in real life.
This forum is an outlet for me to explore these positions.

This ruffles feather, but also sharpens iron.

I have been proven wrong too many times on here, to think that debating on this forum is useless.
And I have been vindicated here too many times, to not continue challenging convention.

Last time I measured 'my words', it was 7 letters long plus one space. :p
