I was thinking about this today, and decided to throw it out there.

I've been a Christian for over 30+ years, and in that time I've never had anyone ever come up and try to witness to me.

Not once.

My question is: After becoming a believer, have you ever had anyone try to witness to you? (not knowing you were already a Christian of course)

None here, but the Jehovah's Witnesses -- and I don't consider that true witnessing!

Perhaps it is because people can see evidence of Christ in us -- perhaps other variables. I HAVE had people ask if I am a Believer/Christian/Christ-follower -- but usually more of asking me to confirm that which they already suspected.

Good thought. Thanks for posting.

Yes a couple years ago at Walmart the lady in the line ahead of me struck up a conversation with me about the Thanksgiving holidays coming up.Then, just as she turned to go she invited me to her church and passed me a pamphlet. She wasnt pushy and was gone before I could say much.I thought it was really nice the way she turned the conversation without being pushy.

On another note: I do kinda wish this would happen to us (my wife and I) soon -- as we have not been regularly attending anywhere since we've been married. We recently moved, and if no locals invite us to their church services anytime soon -- I'm afraid we'll default to attending my previous church services. Not a bad thing -- just would prefer to remain local.

Edit: And yes, the stinkin' Jehovah's Witnesses stopped by during our first week at the new home! This is one thing they are good at; recruiting -- perhaps we can learn from them.

Oh yes, I had an orthodox lady witness to me, even after I told her I was a Christian and explained what I believe in she proceeded to tell me why they baptize babies etc.
I tried to interject and tell her why we as Christians wait till we are older and she would cut me off so I decided to change the subject.

I think it is rude for someone that has no biblical understanding to try to convince me to believe what they believe in.
I was polite ofcourse but I just didn't want to hear it.

No, but it's probably because I'm always talking to God like He's standing right beside me. So that's kind of a give-away. LOL

Once, about 4 years after I was saved, I was in a mall parking lot, and this little old lady came up to me and gave me a tract.

I told her I was already a born again Christian, and to save it for someone else. She said to just read it, deary!

So when I got home, I read it. It was a tract urging Christians to witness, and to do the works which God had called us to do. I was pretty taken aback! How did she know I was more interested in finishing my degree and my kids and husband than God at that time?

I think she was genuinely walked in the Spirit.

But as for cold selling the gospel, just walking up to someone you don't know is pretty hard. I am more into friendship evangelism, getting to know people and sharing what God is doing in my life, then sharing the gospel when God opens the door. I have led quite a few people to the Lord that way.

I do have one friend, from Peru. She will stand in a grocery store line up, and by the time she is done, she will have shared her testimony, the gospel and gotten their phone number for follow up. She runs Bible studies in both English and Spanish for these people she randomly meets! Talk about a double anointing of the Spirit and the gift of evangelism!

Yes. Extremely annoying too. First the tracts came out, then the prerequisite smile, then the very basics, like they memorized a telemarketing script), and then "Have a nice Day, God bless you." Then poof, gone, right to the next victim.

Evangelism isn't very effective if you think you're talking to a cardboard cutout. I threw the tract out, happy to stop the world from receiving one more lame tract. :D

Other than door to door... "people"...

ONCE.... ONE TIME another Christian gave me a tract... I was upset about something and she saw my tears and dug in her purse and gave me a salvation tract.... and said "maybe this will help you" and walked away.

I hate "tracts", but my wife kept a stack where people could easily reach them on the counter of our concession at fairs and festivals. All it said on the front was: "God's Phone Number", and she never handed out even one..... still, the stack had to be replenished every couple of days.

I've been a Christian for 27 years and I've probably had about 4 or 5 people mildly try to witness to me. Of course, I've had many encounters with Jehovah's Witnesses, but they pretty much run away from me now. I'm always wearing either a Christian themed ballcap or t-shirt or both, so maybe that's why people don't bother...I don't know.

To be quite honest with you, what I find troubling is this:

In my 27 years of being a Christian, I've been to gatherings full of Christians numerous times and nobody ever wants to talk about Jesus...and I mean nobody. I'm constantly bombarded with questions about where I go to church, etc., but nobody ever wants to talk about Christ. To me, that's very telling and very troubling.

Maybe that should clue you into something? Just sayin' ...
Michael,
That was for you. And you have to admit, it is hilarious. Think about it Michael. Really. Just think about it. As you do, the statement becomes more and more funny.

Perhaps a good follow up question would be:

How many people have you witnessed to since becoming a Christian?
