There were diferent Ideas regarding the Messiah. In the Talmud here is a belief in two Messiahs. One is from the line of Joseph who is supposed to appear in the last days to defeat Israels enemys and rebuild the Temple. He is supposed to die in battle and be resurrected by the second Messiah who is from the line of David. He is basically the one who rules Israel.

The Nag Hammadi scrolls were found in Egypt around the time of the Dead Sea ones. I believe they were written in the second Century by a Gnostic sect. The most famous one is the Gospel of Thomas which has some versions of parables found in the Gospels. This is the one some believe should be included in the Bible. There are a considerable number of Gnostic Gospels, Acts and other writings dating from the second century. The main teachings behind i all of them is that the world was created by an inferior God. A select few have a divine spark of imortality within them that must be set free from matter. Thge various Gnostic sects claimed that they alone had the secret knowledge to achieve this.
Following on from this they believe that Jesus did not come in the flesh but was some kind of Spirit, details vary. The Gnostic were condemned by some of the early church fathers as being heretics. Their teachings are more in line with Greek Philosopy than Scripture.

thanks for the link... well, imo, it looks like there actually are some first century texts from the DSS that contain phrases that seem to be about Jesus...

it's interesting... although, to be honest not super-surprising... the Judaism of the first century wasn't the 'monolithic' structure that we see in Judaism today... imo...
Personally, I wouldn't give a whole lot of credibility to what you find at Grant R. Jeffries Ministries.

Jeffries, who has passed away, preached a whole lot of end times nonsense, among other things of dubious credibility.

Tourist What do you mean by Legitimate. You can split the Scrolls roughly into three groups. The first are copies of
the Old Testament books we are familiar with. The second are writings outside the old testament canon, such as the book of Enoch and the third are those concerning the teaching and administration of the people who wrote them.
