Can a believer be demon possessed? Can a non-believer be demon possessed? Can a believer or nonbeliever have a demon in them? How do you cast out demons?
no a believer cannot be demon possessed. yes non-believers can be. Casting out demons are done by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ and through fasting with prayer as the Believer is lead to do so Mark 16

Last week, the Archbishop of Calcutta, Henry Sebastian D'Souza, announced that he ordered an exorcism performed on Mother Teresa before she died in 1997.
D'Souza said he thought the Nobel Peace Prize-winning nun possibly was being attacked by the devil, and asked a priest to exorcise it.
Mother Teresa is not the only prominent Catholic figure linked to exorcism.
Italian media reported that Pope John Paul II attempted to exorcise evil spirits from a 19-year-old Italian woman last year, although the Vatican said he only blessed her.
The Roman Catholic Church's chief exorcist said the woman displayed superhuman strength, and that the pope's efforts did not rid her of the hostile spirit.
Closer to home, exorcism is increasingly widespread, experts say.
Different Denominations, Hundreds of Exorcists
"Exorcism is more readily available today in the United States than perhaps ever before," writes Michael Cuneo, a sociologist at Fordham University, in his newly published book, American Exorcism. Exorcism Thriving in U.S., Say Experts - ABC News

posession has something to do with ownership. Can a true christian be truly posessed..no but they can be demonised. theres christian addicts and all so a christian can have demons but a true christian will not be posessed. Anyone can have demons/spirits. Of course a non believer can be posessed (its just very rare for a person to be truly posessed). You cast em out by telling them to go in Jesus name. Jesus taught us how to deal with them.
Neil T. Anderson wrote that Christians can be demonized but the Christian Research Institute disagreed with Neil on the Greek.

Chuck, I have heard for a good while now that anybody can be demon possessed?
That is a lie because this verse says it is a lie:

King James Bible
We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. - 1 John 5:18

The wicked one toucheth him not.

Here is the thing. To say a believer can be demon possessed is to say that a demon can co-habitate with the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit IS God. The Holy Spirit is faaaaaaaar more powerful than a demon.. even Satan.

So.. the Holy INDWELLS a person He has saved. The Holy Spirit will actually be physically in a person's soul, sealing them unto the day of redemption so they go to heaven when they die.

Of course a demon can AFFECT a believer.. because every believer still has a fallen nature. They can still sin, be tempted etc.. but that is not possession.

The Holy Spirit will protect and shield a believer.. and there is no way any demon or Satan can inwell a believer with the Holy Spirit there.

It's like saying an ant can co-habitat with a mega size ant eater! :) The demon being the ANT. :)

1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Matthew 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Can a believer be demon possessed? Can a non-believer be demon possessed? Can a believer or nonbeliever have a demon in them? How do you cast out demons?

Starting at the top, scripture informs the reader that Satan was judged and bound at The Cross – thus, Satan has been incapable of possessing anyone since Jesus’ death…

· John 12.31 - 33
· Eph 6.11 – 16
· Col 2.13 -15
· 2 Thes 2.1 – 17
· 2 Thes 2.6 - 7
· Heb 2.14 – 15
· Rev 5.9 - 10
· Rev 20.1 - 5

Demons, on the other hand, have not been bound, and freely roam the earth looking for a flesh host.

Demons can possess human flesh, or animal flesh, as evidenced by the legion of demons that Jesus cast out from humans, and into the swine (Mark 5.9 - 13).

Thus, animals, non-believers, and those that abandon their faith, are vulnerable to being demon possessed…

But the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, cleaving to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons, (1 Tim 4.1)

1 Corinthians 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

The Christian has power (Strong's G1849 - exousia - God's royal right) over their own will so if you don't have the power over your own will then neither do you have the power to cast out a demon.).

A believer can not be possessed bodily by a demon for they have been sealed until the day of redemption of their body. However, the believer can give place to the devil by giving place to thoughts and doctrines of demons. This type of possession takes place in the mind and emotions and can put the believer in terrible bondage.

John 6:70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”
Judas allowed satan to use him. That did not mean he was possessed.

Acts 19:13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

Acts 16:16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

I know the discussion was already answered but I just wanted to say that it is impossible for a believer to be possessed by demons simply because they are already possessed by the holy spirit. there can only be one type of spirit residing in us it either one of light or darkness the two cannot be in the same place

It's like fire and water the two cannot be one

Matthew 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Peter unknowingly let satan use him, again that doesn't mean he was possessed.

Judas allowed satan to use him. That did not mean he was possessed.
Well it sound to me as if he weren't aware of his action or Bipolar. Because he should of have realized that he has betrayed Jesus when he has accepted the money.

Matthew 27:3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
