What's your favorite single chapter of the bible? That is, your desert island bible chapter?

==============================================

Mine is Mark 12. Certainly not the longest at only 44 verses. But there's a huge amount of wisdom packed into those 44 verses. The parable of the tenants. "The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner." Jesus answered the trick questions of 1) the Pharisees, 2) the Sadducee and 3) the Scribes. "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (<an answer to a trick question that left the Pharisees in awe.)

Jesus recounted the two greatest commandments: "The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

Jesus posed a paradox: "For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son?"

And the widow's mites. All this in Mark 12.

==============================================

What's your favorite chapter?

Great thread idea! I can't think of a favourite offhand, but this does put the question in mind. :)

Proverbs chapter 3. In verse 5 and 6 the essential ingredient for a lasting relationship is spelled out. it is "trust"5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Ephesians 1, to give me comfort and remind me I am sealed. 1:3, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:"

I would like the whole book of Ephesians, though.

Ha ha! True dat! OTOH, the other chapters won't be mad at you for not choosing them. Unlike your children.

It is hard to choose just one. It's just something I decided to do for fun a while back. I think I switched favorites about a half dozen times before I settled on Mark 12.

i hope i didn't give you the idea i think there's anything wrong with it?
it's a particularly lovely topic as it's not contentious. :)

i've been thinking about it since you first posted, though, and hope to commit more chapters to memory. then i can think less about a desert island chapter which i assure you i've been doing for days!

so thank you for that. :)

way-up on our list, PS. 119...
An excellent Psalm....an acrostic Psalm...every 8 verse set starts with a letter of the Hebrew Alphabet....like the 1st 8 verses starts with Aleph....and equates to primary or first......man's reason for existence....to bring glory to God through obedience to the word of God.....

On the grounds that I can't seem to be able to wrap my head around it no matter how often I read it, I'm going with PR's choice too. John 3.

And I have a bone to pick. Why can't we land on a tropical island instead of a desert island? Or, better yet, what's wrong with Dessert Island? If we're going to be shipwrecked for a while, I'd really like a place that offers plenty of desserts. lol

John 14. It changed my life. Not to derail the thread, but it's the chapter that changed my life, freeing me from being a works-based believer into a grace-based believer.

I no longer incorrectly see God as a checklist tyrant, but rather I see Him for who He is, our loving Father whose adoration and affection for us is beyond description. :cool:

Romans chapter 9. Just because of what I used to believe it said.(reformed indoctrination)

Then a Grace teacher came along, slapped me upside the head and taught the WHOSOEVER Gospel of Grace.

So Romans 9 for me right now. What it use to be to me to what it really is. I still face palm myself at times.

I can totally relate. If we can make that switch from it all being about us to making it all about Him.......He really is freeing.
