Q-Did Jesus lie? “Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.” Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee. But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret.“

No he didn't lie, he has never lied and never will. we do not always understand his ways and why he does what he does but then again they are not always for us to know but to just trust him

The greek actually says, For I do not YET go, not sure what translation you are using.

No He did not lie, nor could He by His very character.. the character of God.

His time had not yet come, but He did not say that it could come very quckly.. and so it did.

A sidenote: I would love to know what prompted this post? Just deep curiosity. Not being critical or judgemental in any way.

"Lying", that is, "white lying" as they call it, is not a sin.

Witnessing falsely against our neighbor is the point of the commandment.
Every day gossip for example is much much closer to breaking this commandment than any "little white lie" we might tell.
And much more devastating against a person who is not present to defend their self.

I think that the fact that He went up later, as already pointed out, when the time had come, explains the question completely.

Jesus did not lie! He would never lie as He is incapable of sin due to His Divine nature as the Son of God.

Samantha, it is a great privilege to share what I understood here. Jesus often send his disciples out before Him. For them to GROW in FAITH! Let me explain on another accasion or even two experiences He had with His disciples. And this was one of those occasions where they had to experience the feast WITHOUT Jesus!

First when they were sailing across the sea, and Jesus walked on the water to them. There Peter and the disciples had to GROW in faith, and show faith.... So Jesus did not get in the boat with them, but when they were well away from land he came walking to them on the water.... Then the other time, was when Jesus was asleep in the stern or hinder part of the little ship. on a pillow. That is the part of the boat that would be shaken the least by a stormy sea. And since some of His disciples were fisherman, they wuold know when a storm is dangerous. Or when it is time to panic and get scared. Then they awoke him, as they felt He did not care if the ship would capsize and they would perish. Although Jesus was with them, He was not with them in the PANIC-BOAT... And when He calmed the sea He asked.... WHAY ARE YE SO FEARFUL? HOW IS IT THAT YE HAVE NO FAITH?

This is why Jesus had to send them ahead to the feast. THEY HAD TO GO TO GROW IN FAITH, WITHOUT HIM, HIS TIME TO GO, WAS AS SOON AS THEY HAD WENT! The moment they left, was HIS TIME TO GO! He was not supposed to accompany them there, and they were not to know when He would be there, or that He would be there at all. They had to do the feast to grow without Him!

That is how easy it is to get God's meaning and Word on our hearts. If you have a question about the Word of God, go to the AUTHOR, God Himself and ASK for a revelation about the Word. HE LOVES SHARING! And to those that listen,,,, IT IS REVEALED!

that would be fine, except the same word is used twice in the verse. not once. so if you are going to translate the second (my time has not yet come) you must translate the first the same. .

Jesus’ awareness of the hour, or the time for his assigned work, including his sacrificial death, must have affected what he said and did. Understanding this can give us insight into his personality and the pattern of his thinking.

He knew exactly why he would die and what work he needed to do before his death. He also knew how much time he had to fulfill his mission. His ministry on earth as the Messiah was to be only three and a half years long. Hence, his entire course of action on earth was essentially governed by two factors: the purpose of his coming and a keen sense of timing. Apparently, going to the festival with his disciples may have shortened the few remaining hours he had be fore his crucifixion.

No. In the King James Version, Jesus said it differently from what you had referenced, but they still try to make Him a liar in spite of the fact that the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

John 7:1After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.

The brethrens below were Jesus's brothers by Mary.

John 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

So Jesus was talking to his brothers here, but he was saying that He was not going up yet as in not now.

John 7: 6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. 8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come. 9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. 10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

It was after they had gone up that Jesus decided to go up also, but there was a reason for doing so in secret because the Jews were seeking to kill Him. Remember verse 1 above in this post? Read on as John mentions the Jews again as to why He did so in secret.

John 7: 11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

I am sure alot of people call people liars by wresting their words, by adding or omitting what was exactly said.

Psalm 56:5Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

2 Peter 3:16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

So it sounds like you are reading from a bad Bible version. Stick with the King James Bible.

Samantha the bible (so called) that you are getting this passage from has done the same thing satan did in the Garden of Eden with Eve. Satan changed one little word to make God look like he had lied.
Satan did the same thing here once again in these new so called bibles. He removed one little word to make God (Jesus) look like he lied.

Satan has never changed the way he deceives people. He uses the same tactic he did back in the Garden, because it still works today.

Take another look at this passage. Why would Jesus tell his brother a lie if he planned on going up to the feast? They did not believe in him anywhy. They mocked him many times.

He had no reason to lie to anyone.

John 7:1-10 (KJV)
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. *(they were mocking him here)*
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. *((He could not go up publicly because (the Jews sought to kill him.) It was not his time to die.)*

9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. *(Because (the Jews sought to kill him.))*

*( )* I added these comments!

Do not fall for Satan's subtle deceiving ways as Eve did in the Garden of Eden.

KJV: John7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

The Feast also was for more then one day, it is plausible then, He could have went another day.
