From time to time Christians display the 10 Commandments in their yards. Sometime they protest against the 10 Commandments being removed from public places such a Courthouses. I understand this is in defense of there faith from a possibly overreaching government. The part I need help understanding is why the 10 commandments themselves? What not display the Cross or The two commandments given by Jesus?

There are a lot of Christians who believe that the 10 commandments are no longer valid yet complain if the 10 commandments are removed from public display.

Why not display the Cross or The two commandments given by Jesus?
Love. Yes, the greatest commandment of all concerns loving God above all, with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, and secondly, loving our neighbour as ourselves. Love is our highest ideal: championed, celebrated, valued, cherished, sought after, disparaged, misunderstood, and abused. So how do we love others? The commandments will tell us how. Do not lie about yourself to others, or about others. Do not cheat yourself or others. Be honest in all your dealings. Do not take that which is not yours; do not steal. Do not covet that which someone else has. Do not commit adultery. Do not commit murder. Honour your parents.

Now, from a Secular point of view:

The Ten Commandments have been on display in various Government settings since the founding of our Nation. As well, the Cross was (and, in some instances still is) displayed. When the antichrist movement took over in the late 60's, and they began to file Lawsuits to have the Cross and the Ten Commandments removed from Public/Government settings........along with Christmas displays.......the Courts (per the First Amendment) decided to order them removed.

Now, they being the hypocrites they are, they Ruled that the display of the Ten Commandments on the House of Congress, and the Supreme Court were not promoting a particular religion, but were a "tradition," and, thus they could remain. Just as each session of Congress, and each session of SCOTUS begins with a Prayer.............they allow themselves this right, but remove it from the Citizens............go figure......

The cross is irrelevant without the knowledge of the ten commandments. Jesus never said " forget the commandments" He said " Love for one another will fulfill them" or " all of the Law and prophets hang on these two commandments."

Love for God IS to keep His commandments and it is also Love for each other.

if you Love your spouse, thou will not commit adultery. if you Love someone you will not steal from them, lie to them, covet thier wife or thier possessions, you will not bear false witness ect. the 10 commandments have never been removed " Love one another summarizes the commandments" it isnt a replacement of them, it is the fulfillment of them.

Someone may say " the ten commandments condemn you, buit there is no condemnation in them, they are simply Gods moral standards. the Law is where the condemnation comes from to the transgressor. in the Law is the instructions "you must put to death the sinner, show no mercy, no pity, purge the sin from among you" that is the book of the mosaic Law. it was placed beside the ark as a witness against those who transgressed. the commandments were placed within the ark, and eventually in the holy of holies within the temple. this is a shadow of God writing the commandments on our hearts through Christ. the temple now is us, the body of Christ. The ten commandments are flawless no one can say " it is right to have a doifferent God, or to kill someone, or to lie, steal ect. Why would God remove His moral standard that teaches right and wrong?

thats like a parent who explains right and wrong to thier kid, and then says nevermind for get that part. if we dont see the commandments, we can never repent because we will never know whether we are acting in righteousness, or sin. the book of the mosaic Law was taken from authority, and Now Jesus is placed at the right hand of God who is a witness for us, as opposed to the book of the Law that was against us. The ten commandments are a moral guide for what Love is.

All of those things are good. Why would anyone be offended by any of them? They all make our lives better.

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. Deut 6:9

Try and find someone's house without them.....
