Not really my style of movie, but who knows maybe one day
Perhaps not, but it might help somebody else. I'll oftentimes "screen things", so to speak, not necessarily for my own benefit, but moreso for the potential benefit of others. In this case, I honestly was seeking another avenue by which I might reinforce certain teachings which I'm afraid haven't yet been received by my own three children, specifically in relation to how we view others, and I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Again, I'm not really here to promote a movie, but rather to offer one avenue by which certain Biblical principles might either be taught or reinforced. Hey, just to get a movie about the cross of Christ into the theaters is a bit of an accomplishment.

I can't imagine that HBO would carry it, but it will eventually appear on Netflix. Anyhow, I'm not here "trumpeting" a movie, per se, but I do believe that many here as well as elsewhere could benefit greatly from the reminder given within the film. What "reminder"? Well, the reminder that faith without works truly is dead. How dead? As dead as the body without the spirit and that's dead.
I could agree with this wholeheartedly, were it not for the fact that we seem to have such misunderstandings about "works.'

The original meaning, of course, has been lost, so I'm not talking about how, to those Jews listening back then, it literally meant "keep Torah". But the concept still applies today. (Think right, and do good to others) And if we understand it that way, then I think maybe we're on track.

But so many of us seem to have now understood it to mean actually "doing" specific acts or tasks, and covering certain obligations out of a sense of duty.

The story of The Good Samaritan is all about this. All the "righteous" people passed by the guy hurting, and in need, to make sure the got to the "works" they were on their way to do........ "No, I don't have time to help that lady with a flat tire. I only have ten minutes to get to the shelter to feed the poor. Besides, she can call AAA."

... the theme of the movie was this:

Faith without works is dead.
Need that thought to be expanded upon. If the message is "faith must produce visible works for salvation to be real," I would have to disagree. If, however, the message is "faith produces our commitment to the works Christ has prepared beforehand," then I could get onboard with that. I noticed, however, the movie debuted to bad reviews and low revenue, unlike it's predecessor from this same production company, "God's Not Dead." Wonder why?

The movie is basically about how our commitment to Christ ought to motivate us to seek to help others. Nothing too deep, yet something which is often overlooked or ignored.

Why would secular Hollywood give a movie about the cross of Christ and laying one's life down for others "bad reviews"? Hopefully, I don't need to answer that question. Anyhow, I saw "God's Not Dead" as well and I much preferred this movie to that one. As far as the lower revenues are concerned (it's early yet), I have some thoughts (as unpleasant as they may be)...

Many professing "Christians" balk at laying down their lives for others, perhaps not in word, but certainly in deed, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if less professing "Christians" saw this movie as opposed to "God's Not Dead" which dealt more with evolution and philosophy...and had a "catchy tune" to boot.

I think the hook with "God's Not Dead", was the old story we all love of the underdog finally getting revenge on the bully. (What we secretly seem to love about Revelation)

There's quite possibly a lot of truth to what you just suggested and if so, then that only reinforces my beliefs as to why that movie fared better (initially, anyway) than this current movie is faring. IOW, many "Christians" seem more willing to "put others in their place" than to share with them how Christ took our place that we might be saved.

Anyhow, this was only supposed to be a quick movie review...lol.

After seeing the different trailer that I posted on the other thread, I am glad this stretched out into something more than just a quick thing.

Both my wife and I detest the recent trend to make "trailers" just a conglomeration of 30 or 40 flash screens from the movie. (I guess it's geared for younger crowds.) But that trailer I happened to run across slowed it all down enough, and went into several individual sub plots enough to actually make me WANT to see this movie.

Feel free to post that other trailer here.

In hindsight, I feel kind of weird. IOW, I don't want my comments to come across as overemphasizing the scope or impact of the movie. I mean, it was good and all, but nothing compares to the Bible itself or to fellowship with Christ Himself. This movie is just a medium by which a certain aspect of the gospel is portrayed in real life situations. I don't want to downplay that, but I also don't want this to become borderline "idolatry" where a movie is lifted up and somehow "glorified".

Anyhow, it was a good movie and, Lord willing, I'll see it again (probably on Netflix or I'll buy the DVD when it comes out). If you or others have the chance to see it, then I think that you won't be disappointed. Quite frankly, I expected to be disappointed on my way to the theater last night, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll be going tomorrow night with my wife... it's showing locally at 7:20.

The scenes I saw were powerful, and screamed of Jesus shouting to us, "THIS is what I meant!"

I'll await your review. I expect that it will be positive. Your wife might cry. Mine did and so did one of my daughters. I had to hold back a time or two myself. Yes, even ogres cry...lol.

Well, I just returned home from seeing the new Christian movie "Do you believe?" with my wife and three children and much to my surprise I actually liked the movie a lot. In fact, to quote my 7 year old son in the movie theater parking lot as we were leaving:

"I can't believe that Dad liked the movie...he always thinks that Christian movies are crap."

Lol.

Not "always", but usually.

Anyhow, without going into any details at all, the theme of the movie was this:

Faith without works is dead.

If you have some free time, then I'd recommend checking the movie out.
We went and saw it as well and loved it. Interestingly enough the maker of the film, Pure Flicks has a rule that any actor acting in their films has to be a born again Christian.

It was a good movie, wasn't it? Are you sure about that rule? I know that the one actress is David White's wife (he produced the film) and I just read yesterday that former NFLer Brian Bosworth became a born again Christian after acting in another Christian themed film back in 2013, but I'm not sure that people like Lee Majors ("The Six Million Dollar Man") and Cybill Shepherd profess to be Christians.

More than likely, it will me crying, not her.

Hey, Jesus wept, so crying as a man is nothing to be ashamed of. Believe it or not, I'm a real softie. Seriously, put on a love story or play a good song about love or let me hear the true Word of God preached or see the love of God in action and I'm like a blubbering baby.

I cried watching that SDA Christmas video I posted yesterday. (Maybe the day before)

It was a very good movie. Both Lee Majors and Cybil Shepherd are professing Christians.

Cybill Shepherd rekindles Christian faith, says she's 'talking to Jesus' again | Christian News on Christian Today

Yes that is a rule of the production company.

I cannot wait to see the new movie The War Room, by the Kendrick Brothers. Same duo that brought Courageous and Fire Proof to the screen.

I find it typical that we see great movies like this come out and Christians refuse to go, because the spirit of religion and pharisee is a live and well in the Church.

The best thing I liked about Do you Believe is how the movie answered the 12 major questions people ask about where God was at when bad things happen. The best is when Lee Majors answered where God was at to Cybil Shepherd when she asked him. That was a very solid Biblical answer.

Death is a mean thing to us. We seem to have a hard time understanding that it is something we will all go through to get to something far better than enduring this life.

Yep.

As I've told you before, you'd never pick me out of a lineup in real life. I'm actually extremely tenderhearted, especially with children, and I actually don't like all of the strife that I pretty regularly engage in on these forums. I'm sure that I've mentioned this to you before, but my "trademark" is a different stuffed animal sticking out of my pants pocket everyday which I've had my children kiss and hug for me. Sounds just like me, huh? Well, it is.

That gingerbread guy looks yummy, btw. Give me a glass of milk and that puppy wouldn't stand a chance.

lol.
