In my last Bible study group we studied Gideon. I was interested to see that God allowed Gideon to ask for conformation twice. If God allowed Gideon to do that why not me? At that time I was offered a job so I prayed about it. I already had 3 part time jobs so if God wanted me to take this new job I asked if He could let me get a call from my subbing job that day. I did not get a call so I took that as a "no God doesn't want me to take this new job". Well I had been praying for a new job so I thought maybe I misunderstood so I again ask God for conformation. This time I asked if He did not want me to take the new job please let me get a call for subbing and I got a call. I took this as no He still doesn't want me to take the new job so I did not take it. A couple of weeks later I felt like God was telling me to go back to school again I prayed "Please God if you want me to go to school please let me get a call today for subbing". No call! Ok so I'm thinking no He doesn't want me to go back to school. Well I wanted to make sure so I prayed again if He does not want me to go to school please let me get a call for subbing. Again no call so I'm confused. First time I think His saying no to school then the next time I think His saying yes to school. I don't believe He changes His mind but I'm not sure what to think now. Any thoughts?

We will all fail no matter how hard we try on our own steam. Ask for his strength, and live through his strength. but most of all, believe. Thats all he wants you to do. Yes God change his mind, He can give and he can take away. Says so in the bible

God allowed Gideon to ask for conformation twice. If God allowed Gideon to do that why not me? GIDEON LIVED BEFORE JESUS AND BEFORE THE HOLYSPIRIT WAS SENT TO BELIEVERS TO GUIDE THEM AFTER JESUS RETURNED TO HEAVEN. IT IS NOT A GOOD THING FOR US TO TRY TO PUT GOD TO A TEST, JUST TALK TO GOD AS YOUR FATHER==HE IS!!!

Sister, GISMYS speaks some truth. The way you are seeking God's will is untenable for the redeemed. Perhaps He has worked that way for some in our age, but by and large He gives us direction in ways already presented.

Wisdom is necessary in a fallen world and it is something He gives. Look at your situation, let His words, the wisdom He has given you, and yes, even the interests he has given you take hold and take control.

You cannot go wrong.

Blessings.

I remember that God said he was going to destroy wicked Sodom and Gomorrah. It seemed apparent that he already make up his mind. Lot asked him, would he spare the city if it was a small number of people that were after his ways, and the number went down to 1, and there was not even one. So he destroyed the cities. During the flood, he changed it again, as to say, he will never destroy this way again, and put a rainbow, in the sky as a token of his word. IDK the bible says, no man knows the mind of God. Something to look deeply into. When Cain sinned he was marked, and told God that this thing was too terrible for him, so God did something different.

God's word remains true. If God did change His mind all believers would know so but sin had never changed. Sin is still sin and we should follow Him not our flesh which leads us to sinful things.

The Bible says God is not the author of confusion, but of Peace. Anything that brings confusion is not of God.

As far as wisdom, ask for it, God will give it you [See James 1.5]

Lastly, don't let some of these super spiritual religous types get you down, most of them have fleeced God in their posts and dont even see it...

Does this ring a bell

Ask and you shall recieved
[h=3]Proverbs 3:5-7[/h]King James Version (KJV)

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

A Helper in Making Personal Decisions
The Bible is a product of holy spirit. Thus, when we allow ourselves to be persuaded by the Bible, it is as though the holy spirit were instructing us. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) It can help us to make wise decisions. But do we let it?
What about our choice of occupation or employment? Holy spirit will enable us to view a prospective job from God’s standpoint. Our employment must harmonize with Bible principles, and preferably it ought to help us pursue theocratic goals. The salary or the prominence and prestige connected with a job are truly of lesser importance. More significant is whether it provides us with the necessities of life and allows us sufficient time and opportunity to fulfill our Christian obligations.

How can God be omniscient yet change his mind, in that he is indecisive? These are inconsistent qualities. If you pray to God for direction in whether to take a new job, then God will either tell you what to do or not. However, you inferred that if something happened (your subbing job called) then that was a sign from God but you have no way of verifying that's the case. I am trying to show that this line of thinking regarding asking God for things will lead to confusion. It sounds like you want to take the new job but want Gods' confirmation that it is the thing to do. Well, many people want confirmation that they are making the right decision but you can't know the future and unless God tells you then you have to just use your brain and reason out what is best for you in your present situation. Looking for signs from God to tell us what to do is superstitious and breeds false hope and bad decision making.

God changed his mind all the time.....this is why reading the OT is worth the effort

OP, can't promise you this is the right answer, but one thing to consider

In your first example, you seem to have emulated the Gideon effect successfully with God.
That is, you used two reverse witnesses that yielded the same answer.

Fine and dandy.

Here's the thing, do you really really believe that this answer was from God, and if so, in a world that seems so devoid of divine intervention, this should blow your mind beyond description right?
It shouldn't be anything remotely trivial, it should be a life changing experience.
I hope the magnitude of that idea isn't lost on you, because people seek these kinds of things all the time and seem to get nothing but confusion.
So let's assume the best, that you were stunned and excited about hearing a sure answer from God Himself, you even used an example of how He works (Gideon) to make your request and receive your answer.
Epic. Right?

Now, in the second scenario, having experienced the first one successfully,
WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU NEED TO ASK TWICE ON THE SECOND PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE!
lol!
You should have taken the first "no call" on the going back to school question and ran with it without looking back!
Have you thought of it that way?
If you've "proven" Him once, or if He's proven you once, the next episode should go without doubt or question.

A light hearted recap -
Episode 1
You: "God, will you answer?"
God: "Answer given"
You: "God, will you confirm?"
God: "Confirmation given"

Episode 2
You: "God will you answer?"
God: "Answer given"
You: "God will you confirm?"
God: "*facepalm*"

:D

Always follow faith and not fear, sister.

Numbers 14:11
The LORD said to Moses, "How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them?

Personally, I believe there is only one thing God actually cares about in our lives and that's our relationship with him. Nothing else really matters, especially things like which job to take...but in every decision we make indeed it's our hope to please him, and in that respect remember:

Hebrews 11:6
Without faith it's impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him

...and the easiest way to know which decision will please God; to see which decision is the one that will lead to more "faith", is to see which choice will be the most uncomfortable for your flesh to live with (I'm not talking pain or suffering, but discomfort); the choice that will lead you rely more on God as your provision. That's the choice he wants you to make.

I think it's also the story of Gideon who - when preparing for battle - God told him he had too many men and if he won the battle like that it would've seem as though it was through the strength of men instead of God's strength. So he reduced the force to an insignificant number (one not likely to survive by man's reckoning compared to the other army) before allowing him to battle.

...and Gideon won the battle.
