A lot of times I walk around my apartment talking to God about anything and everything. However, someone told me that if you do not pray in silence, the devil can take it and run with it. What is your opinion? Are there any biblical references?
That is funny, for how can the devil take something that has no substance for him to grab a hold of,and run with it,and it does not matter if he could grab it and run with it,as if it will not reach God when He hears everything, and is an omnipresent Spirit, and is in all and through all.

This sounds like something superstitious of people isolated from modern society.

Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

It does not matter if you speak in your mind to God,or you say it out loud,He already knows what things you have need of,before you ask Him,for He already knows the words you will say, before you say them, and the devil surely cannot grab them and run with it.

I think God would prefer if we spoke in audible words to Him,as if we are communicating with a friend we can see,and those that confess Christ the Bible says if they confess with their mouth it is valid.

Of course the Bible also says to sing in your heart, psalms, and praises to God,which God does not mind if we speak to Him in our mind, but I believe He would rather us say the words.

When the man Christ Jesus communicated with God we read that it was always with words spoken to Him.

Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk... 1 Samuel 1:13-16 NIV

The next biblical reference on that topic about Daniel, he prayed tree times a day and another people able to listened what he prays about KJV Daniel 6;10-11 10.Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. 11.Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before God.

Interesting is this saying that the verse below is wrong, or just saying the men should prey in closets, or is there a rightly divide?

1 Tim 2:8 King James Bible
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
You can pray anywhere in the world in private.. The verse you quote does not change the direct word of Jesus on the Matter.

My opinion is to stop trusting people's opinions and find what God has to say.

for some of us, it's really hard to imagine 'anyone' ASKING such a thing, but then again,
we can always 'remember' ourselves, and fine a 'relative-:)balance'...

This doctrine is an invention. When I'm all alone I pray silently because God can hear my thoughts, and in groups we have to pray outloud so that others can hear.

i speak quietly, move my lips, kind of lip talk to the Lord then in my mind i meditate to the Holy Spirit kind of actually tell the Holy Spirit to tell this to God.

It doesn't matter, pray how you feel comfortable. As far as the devil, to many people give him power he doesn't possess.

For those of you who believe one should only pray in silence............when you do pray, do you ask God for anything?

If so........................................W H Y ?

Jesus said God ALREADY knows what you want/need BEFORE YOU EVEN ASK...............so, WHY ARE YOU PRAYING AT ALL?

um..... run with it WHERE? And do WHAT with it?

If you have Jesus in you, you should have ZERO fear of Satan... he has NO power over you, aside from constant temptations being thrown at you... and you can resist those. Read 1 John 4.....

[SUP]4 [/SUP]You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Shaking my head a bit. Again. Why make this into a big theological discussion. It is so simple: Seek the Lord through prayers. Humble yourself. Sometimes I kneel, sometimes I mumble in my scarf, sometimes I pray in silence, sometimes I laugh, cry out loud, smile, weep, sometimes I pray with sisters in Christ. We should pray, we should follow Jesus. How we do it, where or when... It is private. And the Devil can't rob your prayers, because they are precious to God. Seek His face and pray in Jesus' name! The prayers are between the person that prays and God himself.

I go either way. (I'm really not into making a spectacle of myself by talking to God out loud in public. That and the person checking out the broccoli next to me or on the same elevator is bound to think I'm talking to him/her.)

But, I also don't have the gift of tongues and sometimes I really need God to get how important this is. (Yeah, perfectly aware that's dumb, since God is omniscient so already knows. lol) So sometimes my prayers come with grunts, groans, elongated errrrrrrRRRRs and body language, (usually waving my hands in circles until they're above my head and then stretching my neck tight while sticking out my chin -- as in "You know"), just because I can't put it into words.

Also, hubby usually knows what I'm going to say before I open my mouth, (and vice versa), but it gets really quiet here, if neither of us says what we're thinking. This is a relationship much like a marriage, so why would we stop talking to God simply because he's omniscient? He's got no particular need to smell either, but he seems to really like frankincense and myrrh nonetheless. He likes his people even more than that.

I'm a bit bummed. The second you said you mumble into your scarf, I wanted to see your scarf. Your avatar has no scarf!

(Does no one understand how nosy I am? lol)

That reminds how Joe Reese on Person of Interest talks. He barely opens his mouth. It's great. One of the interesting details of the series.
(Not making fun of how you pray.)
