It resonated with me...
I turned away from the world and to Him.
That's really what happened.
My heart turned away from all I knew and to Him.
Sorry Eg, I keep doing this to you!
This was a response to your last post. :)

Amen...an exchanged life is a fruit of having already repented and came to believe in Christ. The same way we came to Christ is the exact same way we walk with Him throughout the rest of our lives.

The hearing of Him and what He has already done brings repentance and changes our thinking to believe in Him and His work for us.

This believing to trust in Him brings forth His life in us.

That is when the "fruit of having repented" shows up in our lives. It is the dynamic of the kingdom and New Covenant.

In the Old Covenant - it was your works of " doing something or by not doing something" in order to get something. In the New - it's believing in Christ and what He has already done and then we experience an exchanged life.

Get this backwards and we exchange the gospel of the grace of God in Christ for a religion.

Yes, well one definition does not scratch even the surface of all that our Lord does in us and for us. But we do the best we can in our "tweets." :D:)

maybe so, but that is not what it says.

It says, the next day, He saw Jesus comming. and as he saw him, he said behold the lamb of god.

Unless this is another error in translation.. ugh!!
How do we know that the day John is describing the same day that the other gospels take about or is that just an assumption?

John baptized in the Jordan more than one day.

I know I am just going by what was said.

It says the next day, He saw Jesus coming, and when he saw hm, he said.... In another passage, he said that Jesus should baptize him, SO it is known he knew Jesus when he came.. Maybe as someone said, It was prophetic or the HS in him, remember when mary came to Elisabeth and as he baby (john the baptist) jumped in her stomach because he knew..

Thats why I said, it can be confusing, I learn to just take some things in faith knowing one day I can ask john himself when I get to heaven..lol

Run to the hills..... Run for your lives....
LOL...if you were "spiritual" you would obey God and send me your tithes. Do you not want to obey God? Do you want to be a reprobate?

You better start sending me money for "God's ordained church" if you want to make yourself ready for the Lord's 2nd coming and then you too will be worthy...

Don't you want to attain to the resurrection of the dead? ( are we on this one yet?..:) )

you better get re-baptized, I fear your first one was insufficient, or you would not be making such grace errors.

Why can't this account happen AFTER John baptized Jesus?

As in Jesus was baptized by John.

A month later this happened:

Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
And he answered, “No.”
Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
He said: “I am
‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Make straight the way of the Lord,” ’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
*
*
Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees. And they asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The Lamb of God
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

My wife just reminded me of our old CoC slogan of 40 years ago. H,B,R,C,B.

H — Hear
B — Believe
R — Repent
C — Confess (Actually, this is just The Profession of Faith)
B — Baptized

Although that denomination is a bit too hooked on thinking that Water Baptism is necessary for Salvation, I think they got most of the rest of it right.

We need to understand that we cannot 'Change Our Minds' (Repent) without doing a couple of other things first. And most of the Religious world would have us believe that the first thing we have to do is feel bad that we sinned. And, "Yes", that does precede Repentance. (But, it is NOT Repentance)

The Bible says that we would not even KNOW something was 'sin' if the Law didn't first tell us it was. And this is the very reason that the Jews to whom John was preaching that they needed to 'Repent', were ALREADY feeling bad. They were there at the river for their annual baptism BECAUSE of that very fact. They felt bad that they had sinned against God.

They were prepared to get wet again, and then go home for another year after which they would return for yet another annual remission-causing dunk in the water. Good to go for another year. This was all they knew of that was written in their Law that would do anything about their sinning.

But, rather than just going to the usual Jerusalem Baptism Basins, where the old priest would dunk them (or maybe sprinkle? I really dunno) , as they had been experiencing all their adult lives, some of them were hearing of this new guy outside of town several miles, who seemed to be adding a new twist to the dunking. He was having a sort of "Tent Meeting" (to use our terms), and was also Preaching something.

All sorts of people flocked to hear this guy. Even the Big Leaders of the church went to check him out. Why? It was because of this strange Preaching. It was a new message. This weird guy was saying that although he was doing the usual Baptism thing for them, this was probably going to be the last time this would work for the remission of their sins.

He was trying to actually get them to believe that a heavier-duty dude than him was coming — and that THIS guy was going to do something entirely different. John was telling the congregation there that they were going to have to do some thinking about what he was saying. And, that they were going to have to make some decisions because of that preaching.

They were going to have to HEAR and BELIEVE what he was telling them. And because of listening to him, thinking about his words, and finally coming to believe that he was telling them the truth, they were going to have to do something about it.

They were going to have to Change Their Minds..... Change the way they were thinking about just what it was that was going to give them Remission of Sins in the future. They were going to have to do just what he was preaching. They were going to have to REPENT (Change their thinking about what they would put their trust in for the future.)

Then, they needed to actually come right out and take a stand for this new system of thinking (The 'Confession', or Profession of Faith. What they now were going to believe in.) This is what he was pressuring the Pharisees about.

Notice that unless we modern people give a completely different meaning to their well-established and thoroughly-understood word, 'Repent', there is never even one single mention of getting a long face, and lamenting all their sins. Remember...... these people were very specifically there because they ALREADY felt bad about their sinning. That was totally the point of the often days-long trip to get there.

John wasn't telling them to wail louder or look even sadder....... or to REALLY be sorry this time. He was telling them to use their brains, and to absorb his words, and to think about his message so that they could make a decision about what was being preached to them, and come to the conclusion to CHANGE THEIR MINDS (Repent) about where their future Salvation really lies.

I agree that Repentance is more than an emotional reaction to pain and suffering cause by sin. It must include a change in our minds to see the lies that sin has enslaved us too and how we have chosen to rebell against God.

For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you.

The sorrowful feeling in one's heart is in itself is not repentance but can lead to repentance which leads to salvation.

I would change things.

H — Hear
R — Repent
B — Believe (have faith, not mere belief)
C — Confess/call out (rom 10)
B — Baptized (by the Holy Spirit)

to me we can not have faith until we first repent.
