I don't think it is wrong to drink, I like having a good beer while I cook out on the grill, beer and wine go good with food. HOWEVER, if one does not know when to stop drinking (or can't stop due to addiction/alcoholism) and becomes drunk, then it is sinful and they should not drink at all.

Jesus made wine, Paul told Timothy to drink wine for his health.

Now, before someone posts that this wine had no alcoholic content, the Hebrew word for "wine", yayin, is derived from a word that means to "effervesce". Compare any of the following: wine is linked with strong drink repeatedly, because they both produce drunkenness: Prov. 20:1, 31:6; Isaiah 5:11; 5:22; 24:9; 28:7; 29:9; 56:12; Micah 2:11.

The point is you should not drink to excess.

I once had about 6 beers or so in a short period of time, but I never got drunk. Much of drunkeness has to do with self control, and the abundance of the heart/mind/motivator of the soul. A person can be drunk on money as well, I mean just look at the reaction people have when given large amounts of money, and then to see what they do with it, wow, it's drunkeness as well. All I'm saying is that I'm sure we all agree that what people drink and eat should be one of the last priorities of our steps towards true Love. If anyone is around people that drink a bunch, start paying attention to what comes out of the mouth, because it's much easier to let the abundance of the heart out when a person is drunk.

I don't usually hear being "under the influence" rationalized except by those who indulge. Always ask yoursef...Would Jesus do it? IF no..then don't.

Drinking is not wrong at all, getting drunk is. Drinking to get drunk is also wrong. It all falls on the motivation behind the drinking. You could also drink because it's healthy for you, but not over doing it of course. We have to use reason and common sense.

Why would drinking alcohol be banned for us if our own blood has alcohol in it?

WHY do you persist in doing violence to words and their proper definitions... with grandiose philosophy?

UNDER THE INFLUENCE... is the key here... metered consumption for enjoyment of taste of a beverage... does not necesaarily produce an UNDER THE INFLUENCE effect. For the matter... we are to be SPIRIT CONTROLLED thus under the influence of any substance comes under scrutiny... as well it should.

you know let me tell you a story about drinking that I experienced that made me realize that evil does indeed come in strong drink. I was going through a stint where I had issues with alcohol but my Lord said NO NO NO and he took it completely away from me. (this was in the process of Jesus rescuing me from that life) well I had a tooth ache and my mate's dad came over with whiskey and wouldn't share for me to swish in my mouth to take the pain away so I went to town and got really really drunk on whiskey and came home later that night and passed out on the bed.
That morning when I woke up without me even being aware of what I was doing (wasn't me was the Holy Spirit speaking through me) I put my hand on my belly and said "in the name of Jesus get out of me" I went into the bathroom and I puked twice in the bathtub. The first was clear nothing, the second thing I threw up was solid black and about the length and size of a large slug. I watched it slowly slide down the tub into the drain. Because THAT came out of me when the Holy Spirit spoke through me telling it to get out of me in the name of Jesus....I know without a shadow of a doubt that drinking leads to really evil things. beware and do not let the devil trick you into thinking it is way less then what I just shared. He is the king of lies.

Yeah, go ahead and drink your wine and beer. Imagine how it would look when you witness to somebody about Jesus with that "sack" in your hand and the smell on your breath.

I suppose if they ever legalize marijuana some "Christian" will be saying it's okay to smoke that too.

Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

Yeah that WWJD acronym really does have a lot of truth to it.

Sadly to say, when we see most of these posts, it seems many don't know what Jesus would do.

Alcohol was prohibited in America for a reason, and it's not because people were just having one drink with their dinner. It was the Protestant Church that pressed for prohibition because they seen it as immoral. We don't have to be drunk to be impaired, and one drink is all it takes to impair one's judgement, if even for just a moment. We must be sober and vigilant in these times.

Just as a general rule for myself: if the world supports it, I am most likely going to be against it. Why? Satan is the father of this world we live in, take a look around it's all too obvious. He tells Jesus in the wilderness that all the kingdoms of the world have been delivered unto him (Luke 4:4-6).

Also just as the scripture Stephen posted says it's not good to do it if it will make somebody stumble, offend them, or make them weak and there are a WHOOOLLE lot of people that fall into those categories.

Man if i took the time to judge every action i did beforehand to determine whether or not someone would stumble from it, i would never get anything accomplished.

This is the same kind of thinking that has got so many people, believers and unbelievers, stumbling today...Think about what you just said, I mean really think about it.
