My church attended is a vibrant, alive church, involved with missionaries around the world, education, too, in local schools, including being a large contributor of stopping bullying, plus we have people there that continuously get food and even health insurance from church and been that way for 30+ years. Their contributions are minimal but, yeah, the Lord leads, Tommy4C, your view of 'the church' is your view and, I can only hope and pray , that the good churches lose not heart , those churches who all across the country preach the Word and do not sugarcoat it . They are Holy inspired vessels, churches like mine, with 4 services per week, ministries of city blessing and world blessing going on.

If is true, I agree, a church not following the Lord's leading is renting Him and the Lord leads. We are to be in Him, in love of how He faithfully leads, and, rigging is but a fraction of ALL a healthy, fruitful church is doing to bring glory to Him, bring blessings to others, to bring unbelievers to the cross.

Doing THIS kind of works, Christ peeps, IF your church is not with outreach ministries, not to mention taste of new wine my church hosts each week for anyone wanting to go, 100s I've seen in parking lot that night. But, yes, pray you are helping your church entertain others, like Jesus would do if still on earth.

You never know either, some time you doing this 'entertaining,' you might be, as Scripture states, be 'enteraining angels unaware.' :)

Sounds like Leonard Revenhill didn't understand what Joy is. Joy is all day every day. Not just in services.

But the Christian’s joy doesn’t come from earthly circumstances, it comes from being “in Christ” (Rom 15:17).

The ONLY church I will enjoy is the ONE God explains in 1 Corinthians 14.... If a church does not live up to that standard, who's church is it? Did Jesus not say HE will present Himself a glorious church, and that He is the Head and maintains the Church HIMSELF! So that church is ALIVE and kicking, the only problem is the membership is VERY EXCLUSIVE.... only Jesus appoint members!

I hate it when I want to learn about God and the person in charge needs to be comical to keep the attention of the people. Nici Gumble is one of them.

As long as we aren't going to worship just for the music or jokes we are fine. It's the heart of the mater that counts.

Nicki Gumble doesn't need to be comical to keep people's attention. He's a very interesting man and has done great things for God's Kingdom.

This leaves out one question How are we to worship? If my memory serves me correctly didn't Jesus say this

John 4

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

The question is are we worshiping the Father in Spirit and in truth? Didn't David do both? What did God call David? Didn't God say David was a man after God's own heart? Didn't David dance in the streets? Isn't there times when we need to be quiet before the Lord and others times when we should be shouting from the rooftops? Don't we show more excitement when we see a football player make a good play then we do to the one who is far greater then any sports figure will ever be? How about concerts or plays? Do we show the same type of excitement for our heavenly Father? But on the other hand being aware of the fact that He is also Holy,Just, and totally pure and we can't even look upon His face?

I believe it all goes back to one thing,if it is looked at as entertainment it is wrong. It should never be looked at that way,but if they are worshiping in the Spirit and in truth,is it wrong for some to get very excited about God and to show it that way,or is it wrong for those who prefer quiet contemplation of God? Are either wrong or are they both pleasing to God if it is done by the Spirit and in truth?

I agree with you (which is why I liked your post :p ) but after further thinking, perhaps that's what the quote means? What I mean is, according to that quote, perhaps the devil has influenced Christians to believe that they must be "entertained" and "happy" instead of "joyful"? That we must feel entertained (circumstancial) in order to be fulfilled, instead of feeling joyful (non-circumstancial)?

Not sure if I'm explaining that very well. Point being is that I agreee with you but can kind of see where the quote is coming from as well.

You have a good point. I might have misunderstood. As usual.

I know I like to play cello as " a " part of my worship. Yet when I found a church to attend, I had just been in bed for two years with my third stroke. I prayed these Yeats for a God fallowing church to be " led" to. As I became better & could now come out to see my new town. I heard of a church to visit. My daughter took a wrong turn.... lol I went that Sabbath, now I was recent to a wheelchair, the church had just put in handicapped parking & bathrooms. I found people with humor, righteous living, all week long,,, people who thru the community fed the homeless . Reached out to orphaned children continually supporting them throughout their lives. , youth groups. Boy I could ho on & on. People activly helping a person who feels led with a project for God, jail ministries, to a new mom or empty nest mom Bible study. The sermons have sometimes a joke or two, but I don't know of anyone having to jossel. The person next to them to keep them awake. Are we all perfect, no... are we growing in faith & number, yes. Is their fruits, yes. I do know God attends, & if I pray before going think church asking for guidence or a lesson to learn that I need to know, it is there waiting for me. Now before I sound like a commercial for my church, , " hope I haven't " but I pray there be many churches out there who bring people in be it by entertainment from the music they here calling them inside or by reputation, or the outreach. Its all about God not us. So many of you that have shared can say in this language so much faster & better. Than me. Yet I would greatly enjoy going to some of the churches I hear on this post just from your additudes. Thank the lord that his needs are being met in so many ways of services ....but like you legal I prefer a non fingernail grinding music. Ha ha.go as you are led but don't expect perfection from man. Look. To be led by God.

Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

however saved ppl needs christ and his joy is in us
id like to quote this from one hymm

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
