When a person reads...even to themselves...they are hearing a voice and language.
1 Corinthians 14:9-11King James Version (KJV)

9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
True. But when a person reads.... even to themselves.... they are hearing their OWN voice and their OWN language. Not saying that is bad, or they can't learn, only saying hearing the Word of God with other voices, is an effective way also.

Hearing means "Hearing" Understanding comes from that which you hear or read.

Hearing with the ears.

Hearing with the ears.

In order for one to be able to understand or not understand, they must first HEAR it.

Isn't that what I said.
You have to hear It and understand what you are hearing.

If we insist on getting hung up on "literality" and reading the Bible "at face value", I guess they don't.
"Hearing" needs to be explained.IMO the word needs to be explained/communicated.

Mattew 13:17-20

King James Version(kJV)

17.)For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

18.)Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19.)When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

20.)But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

I use the old King James Bible Online.
When the seed lands on good soil that means you have understood It.

Seed_time_harvest You said in post #2 this statement

Yes hearing the word meaning understanding.
To that i responded with post #14. Reading the statement and how it was said, leads a person to believe that you think hearing the Word, means understanding it. So then Faith cometh by hearing, is changed into Faith cometh by understanding. After your response, i can see that is not what you intended to say or imply by your statement. i apologize if i have offended you in any way, it was not my intentions.
