I find it interesting how quick everyone is to blame her.
I am not trying to blame her. What would I have from that? I just see in the text that she was somehow guilty ("what I have done").

According to Scripture, women could divorce.

Mark 10:12 "And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
OK...

Many of those Samaritans accepted Jesus as their Messiah.

There were Jewish roots, but they did not follow or were they mandated by God to follow the Mosaic Law.
They did have the mosaic if they had the five books that were written by Moses. What do you think?

The reason why I asked that question was because what struck me was that the Samaritan woman said

John 4:25

25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”

It would seem to me that only a people who knew this would had to have had some Jewish roots.

Mind you neither did the mainstream Jews of the day follow the commands of God.

If we look at the OT they themselves feel foul of integrating according to the customs of the lands they were in.

In fact when Moses was up in the mountains receiving the commandant's they built a golden calf and worshipped it.

Enjoy talking to you as always

Having the 5 books does not mean they followed or were mandated to follow the Moasic Covenant.

Would that not be like saying an Atheist with a Bible is by default a Christian? ;)

Always a pleasure speaking to you, Bill.

Yes that is true to an extent.
Yet an atheist with the Bible has only one intent.
To take it out of context and disprove the God they do not believe in does not exist.

If he does not exist why bother trying to disprove?

The one she’s with now is not her husband- that means fornication. And since she clearly knows the difference between marriage and fornication, she was most likely unfaithful in marriage five times.
Highly unlikely that she was unfaithful. If she were she probably would have been stoned to death which I believe is the usual penalty. Only the woman gets stoned, guy gets a pass.

As she was a "Samaritan" and not a Jew,
So if you are graphed into the promises of the Abraham, of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Heb 11:18

there is no need to apply Jewish (or Christian) moral restrictions to her situation.
That's rich...

I think it suffices that Jesus called her on her junk (by simply speaking the truth),
 See Hebrews 11

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? John 4:11-12

and offered abundant grace instead.
Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
John 8:48-49

Did he deny being a Samaritan?

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. John 4:22
