Have you noticed how many threads are started endorsing subjects that show the lack of spiritual understanding even though they are started with an honest heart? (Leaving aside those threads that are started to entice arguing, which are many.) Is it really true that the Christian (in general) has become less informed than that of the previous generations?

Have you noticed that there are a lot of judgmental threads these days on CC?

Ones that do not take into account new believers who need to be taught, or the historical debates concerning doctrine, which are being examined in detail here?

I think there is a high degree of Bible knowledge and conformity to the will of God in this forum. JMO

I would agree for sure......babes in Christ, Kids in Christ, Teens in Christ, Young Adults in Christ, Adults in Christ, Mature Servants in Christ, false teachers, different religions, good threads, bad threads, good knowledge, bad knowledge, true, false, deep theology, milk toast theology as well as conjecture, supposition, opinion and truth well spoken.....

At the end of the day it is a public forum and will always contain the above....that doesn't mean we cannot glean some truth, have some fellowship, learn a few things, grow stronger in our knowledge etc.

I agree with you whole heartedly. One thing that helps me is knowing that no matter what is on here, it strengthens my relationship with God and allows me to hold firm in my faith.

possibly.

note the other replies, for example.

God is called perfectly true and just, because "all his ways are judgment".... and His Own people have forgotten.

and those who are trying to call themselves his people don't even know him.....

oh my, there's more judgment......

You know the Pharisees tooted their own horns on many occasion.....you sure seem to think you are all that and a bag of chips when it comes to the word of God and being a servant....it seems that all you do is boast while judging those around you like you are some grand poo-bah of truth and knowledge......serious!

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

God provides.

You do want to be close to the Word of God so you can actively defend your faith when it is needed. Yet, by the same token, you might not want to get bogged down in convoluted discussions that bear no fruit for you. Faith in Christ that is active and growing is the best, imo.

If I don't want to read a 155 page thread about Catholics, its too big, too overwhelming for me, that's ok. Not every rabbit trail is meant to go down, all that jazz.

Wow.
You obviously haven't met everyone yet.
: )

Somebody be sure to introduce her to one of those atheists that say Christians are deluded and dangerous, and should be locked up in re-education camps.
Fun Fun.

You know what I've noticed?

People that seem fed up with everything involved/about CC. (the people, the threads, the doctrines, etc?)
.....yet?, they keep returning here, just to say they dislike all things about CC?

Now THAT doesn't make any sense. :(

Mt 28:19-20
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
KJV

I think that incomplete obedience to this commission is the root of the problem.

Far too often believers will lead a person to faith in Jesus; and think their work is done. There is far too little commitment to discipleship. The most important function of a forum like this IMO is discipling those who have been reborn and left to fend for themselves. Just as no one is born knowing calculus, no one is reborn knowing sound doctrine.

The only 'stupid' question is the one unasked! The task of discipleship is just as important as the task of evangelism.

Yes.

And even when a thread's intent is to share - it usually turns argumentative. We are after all, only human. We have different understandings, different levels in our walk, different ways of communicating - we are not robots - we are all different. So naturally, differences will occur. [Did I say "different" enough times! LOL]

I often see very informed Christians here on CC. I have also seen things where I have scratched my head in perplexity - thinking where did that come from!

I am assuming you are joking:). I actually have an aunt and uncle that are atheists and because of how dark and it is obvious that they don't have the joy of the Lord and because they like to persuade me into their way of thinking and it makes me stronger in my faith in the Lord.

Yeah he's right mate, you do have a lot of posts saying that no one truly knows God etc. Etc.
I'd be careful about that kind of thinking, I think it elevates yourself above others, not that I question your love and devotion towards God.

I can think of three distinct reasons why humor and jest is so prevelent on the forum; but there may be more:

1) Someone has posted something judgemental, harsh or unloving and rather than reply sharply and get drawn into the same critical spirit, they respond with humor.

2) A discussion begins to become oppressively heavy and someone decides to lighten things up.

3) someone has nothing to say and wants to fill space.
