No. That was Plato speaking, and Paul replied (this was a debate so it moves on) and said he would not allow anything to control him, as for example alcohol, drugs, and prostitution if you are a woman, might.

He ended the debate that went on for longer than we have it in the Bible, by saying "Therefore, glorify God with your bodies" or as I would say, "Bring honour and glory to God in everything you do."
you can certainly read it as a debate

i read it as Paul saying that the Christian life isn't about slavishly following a list of rules

but about following the holy spirit

I have just had a thought, If we bring honour and glory to God in everything we do, we don't need any commandments do we.

We wont have done anything wrong or unpleasing to God.
that's a great way to put it!

Don't we already have an example from Jesus about "many" who give God the glory for all they do, but also believed, as you do, that they didn't need God's Commandments?

Matt. 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Transgress God's Commandments)

Wouldn't bringing Glory to God be trusting His Instructions instead of the Pope to Jimmy Swaggert?
maybe we can break the cycle of misunderstanding here

is the Priest working iniquity here?

1 Samuel 21: 1. Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? 6. So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

I know it was a debate between Plato and another philosopher because I read it a while back, but you are right in what you say about following the Holy Spirit.

i don't think*"Go and sin no more" is in the story of the women at the well

not that Jesus is in favour of sin

but it's not listed as a condition of receiving living water in that story
That is your religious belief. But Jesus didn't say "Please, I wish you would consider listening to my commandments, but if it is your ancient religious tradition to reject them, I will still give you eternal life".

He said "Go and sin no more". The woman could accept His Word's (Living water) or she could reject them.

Your religious belief doesn't alter or make the Word's of Jesus void.

no, it's a progression that the Jews (and by extension the world) went through, and each individual person goes through

although, many people get stuck along the way

this is how we see it as we grow
first, i own everything

then, God owns a tenth, plus first born, first fruits

then God owns everything
I understand the religion, I was born into it. I just don't find where the Bible supports such teaching.

You again, omit an important part of the story.

3 Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.
5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

Would God intend that the sick man Jesus healed remain in pain and suffering because of His Sabbath? That is what the Mainstream Preachers of Christ's time taught.

Would God want the Priest to withhold His Bread from David who was running for his life because he was righteous and Saul was not?

You use this scripture to justify rejecting God's Words, namely His Sabbath. Jesus used this scripture to expose the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of His time He called children of satan.

Like Jesus said, it is "Lawful" to do good on His Sabbath, it is not "Lawful" to reject it.

i don't doubt it was a debate for Plato

but was Paul using it that way in his letter?
Plato was living about 500 years before the apostle Paul. So in case you think the debate was between Paul and Plato, it was not. In the meantime the Corinthians loved to quote Plato who said "everything is permissible etc....." because it gave them leave to do as they liked. "In classical times and earlier, Corinth had a temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, employing some thousand temple prostitutes" (Wiki) and just in case you think otherwise, Paul did not approve.

Now before you get the wrong ideas and start questioning what people tell you, I suggest you find out the facts first before you start arguing.

Sorry Dan,

I was on a different verse than you. But it doesn't matter, Jesus is the same no matter who He is speaking to, whether it's Abraham or this woman by the well, or the harlot.

John 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

So isn't this the same thing Jesus told the Harlot? "Go and worship God in spirit and truth". How is this different than what Jesus told Abraham?

1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

Did Jesus give Abraham the living water? And the Israelites, did Jesus also give them the living water?

1 Cor. 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

I'm not sure what your point is.

yes, Paul was long after Plato

Paul may have been using a kind of debate tactic like he does here

1 Corinthians 15: 12. Now if Christ is preached, that he has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that "there is no resurrection of the dead"?

so Paul maybe be saying that all things are lawful, but temple prostitution isn't edifying

in all gentleness, i believe you were on a whole different chapter

my point was what are the specific requirements Jesus states to the lady in order for her to obtain living water?

Jesus said
"which was not lawful for him to eat"
Jesus didn't create this story so you could use it to justify rejecting God's Commandments. Was it the intent of God's Sabbath to ever leave an animal in a pit, or restrict me from walking and eating a strawberry in fellowship with Christ? Was it the intent of God's sanctuary to withhold food from God's Humble Servant David? Of course not, yet the Mainstream Preachers of Christ's time taught just that.

1 Sam. 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

13 And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?
15 Did I then begin to enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.

If you only use those scriptures that can be used to support your ancient religious traditions, and reject the rest, how is it you are any different than the Pharisees who did the exact same things?

What is the living water? Religious traditions of men, man made doctrines? As I have stated, how is His message to this woman any different than His message anywhere else?

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Is the living water not the Word's of Jesus?

Your mixed up in Shadows. God's LAW (10 Commandments) are God's that are not the Mosaic book of the Coavennt. Both God's Law and the laws of the Mosaic book of the COVENANT had a different role in the OLD COVENANT.

SIN is the transgression or breakin gof God's Commandments (Romans 7:7; James 2:8-12; 1 John 3:4)

Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

.......................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).
This is pure fresh cow manure. It is too caustic even to use as fertilizer. I would expect it came from Ellen G. White; except that she was too small to be a cow.

Hello MarcR,

God's Word is not cow manure. Please bring your scriptures to prove your theory. Simply stating your words over Gods does not make God's Word disappear. The only references in relation to cow manure seem to be coming from your posts which are not supported by God's Word. No one else has been speaking of this subject but you speaking your words over Gods
