I just want to add.

What I have expressed above is not to make me look good.
Trust me I don't feel good about any of it and the way I walked in it for 25 years.
The sad fact is that many well meaning christians did not help when I asked for help.
That needed dealing with as well:cool:
At the end of the day it's all about God's timing and not ours.
Truth is for me for those years I would not forgive and this included God.

For some reason I felt I was being punished by God for things I had no control over and things I could not control (gambling and addiction)

When I woke up one morning still alive a figured that there must be a reason.
So I asked why.

"I'm glad you asked that Bill" says God
"Will you now trust me?
That I did.

A lot of healing was needed, a lot of forgiving was needed.
Notice I say 'Forgiving'

It's not easy but the truth is

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.”
Lewis B. Smedes, Forgive and Forget: Healing the Hurts We Don't Deserve

That God asked, will you now trust me? tells me that the trials you were going through there were His plan. (Not talking about earlier in your life, but your life during this time). He really will allow a mans life to degenerate into smithereens to get him to bow his knee. It's a fearful and ferocious love that would strip a man of everything to have him.

In truth, what most of us call tribulation is nothing more that an inconvenience when compared to what many have and do suffer.

Oh yeah, made me feel like a stupid whiner to read bills post about his childhood.
We don't pick our trials though. God does.

As far as bills childhood, the verse that came to mind was the one where God says something like, when you were born no one cared for you, loved you, washed you off or rubbed you with oil or wrapped you in cloth. When you were born, you were thrown out into a field and not cared for or loved. And I walked by and saw you kicking around in your own blood and I said to you, LIVE! LIVE!

A thought just came to mind, one of those times where you see that everything God created shows His glory.

When we are first born, we're covered with blood.
When we are born again, we're covered with Blood.

So even human birth shows His glory...

I think when God said "Will you trust now" was twofold.

It was to deal with the past in order to help with the present.
I don't think the trials I was going through was his plan.
I think in advance he knew what would happen to me and that's why we have the promise that he will work good in all things that have happened to us.

Yes amen to your last sentence.

That's where I came to or maybe God led me to.

"God I need you so much, without you I'm nothing, I just want to be like Jesus, I just want to know I'm loved by you"

Then I stumbled across this verse, well I say stumbled. I think it was the Holy Spirit leading me to this when one afternoon I was laid up with a back problem. God asked me 3 times to spend time with him. 3 times I said no and the 4th I said yes.

Opened my Bible app. Went through a lot of verses and the last one they blew my mind was.

John 17:23
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

That blew my mind.

God loves us as much as he loves Jesus.

They is the truth, yet so many belivers don't know it or believe it.

Suffering brought me to the "end of myself". I had no more control over what was happening. Nor could anyone around me change things. My faith could only be in One Person - Jesus.

For that alone, suffering has value.

Please please do not judge your experiences with mine.
Neither negate the consequences of what happened to you with mine.

I have posted my experience of life.

I walked with someone who really struggled in their walk with God.
When we got to the crux of the matter basically it was because they never experienced a parent saying "I love you"
Never a hug or a cuddle.

Another was only ever told they were loved or felt loved when they did well, ie exams.
We all have to endure what has happened to us.

The cause of the affect will always be the same.
A struggle in our walk with God.
But the answer to cause will always be the same.

JESUS

Hi mate.

Do you not think that when your walk with God has been stunted like mine was is any different?

Yes I endured a lot and pressed through.
But I'm sure that what ever you have endured you have pushed through as well.

Why have we been blessed?

I would say it's because God loves us as much as he loves Jesus.

God bless you.
God bless us all.

No please don't worry. I don't judge my experiences by yours.
But your story is hard to hear and it really did make me feel whiny.

He's going to bring the experiences to each of us, custom tailored, that each of us needs to let go of the world, our pride, our self love, to become like our Lord. He chose us and knew everything about us before we were even born.

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
John 15:2

God is a God of love, but He prunes us. It hurts but it is for our good and glory
for the King.

Now I tend to be chirppy chappie, believing others will rejoice and enjoy the gift
of life our King gives us every day. But I have learnt, no, others do not share this,
not a little, but with growing anger and tension. Even rejoicing in Christ, walking
in His victory and grace. Now I deserve what I get, because I need to feel the pain
and how superficial I appear over the true abuse many have received and the real
agony they feel everyday.

If I did not get kicked around a bit, not because I am evil or have done anything wrong,
but because the sea of hatred, pain, revenge, anger is so deep and people so wounded,
how else will I know their pain and to get alongside them.

This may sound superior or know it all, but it is true. It by my suffering I can carry a bit
of your pain, I would freely do this. Some stories here on cc would break me, and I do not
know how to make things better, or show the love that is needed, but to call to our King
to have mercy and grace and minister.

I want to put what I am saying into perspective. The holocaust, Pol Pot and the killing fields,
Rwanda genocide. In different ways these three events have touched me, and broken me.
We cannot ever be where the pain is deepest, but we know the King who can heal the worst
wounds ever and make people whole. If you were a doctor with a bandage once put on would
make the wound go away, would you not want to apply it to all who were willing to accept
such help.

That is our King, that is our Jesus, who saved us, and brought us life, Amen.

A word and a promise!

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble: but be a good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33).”

All Believers must be fully persuade that Jesus is the only solution for mankind. Therefore, we apply our perfect sacrifice Jesus Christ and the Finished Work at Calvary Cross where the victory was won and receive Grace through Faith with the help of the Holy Spirit for any problem (Romans 8:2). Any other way is judged by God as iniquity and only brings death (Matthew 7:21-23).

Thanks BillG, I hope you keep on telling your story. Amen, "will you trust me now." Over time I was able to forgive my dad for the nightmare I called my childhood and we both said I love you at his bedside before he passed on into eternity, without Christ. I would like to echo your lessons learned,
"will you trust me now" it is the most loving thing we can do no matter what trials
we are going through, but to trust our "Heavenly Father" God Bless you BillG

A trial is not to weaken our strengths but to strengthen our weakness.

A trial is when we are placed on the witness stand to give testamony to what the accused (Christ ) has done.

A trial is God's word in action.

I think going through trials causes a more complete abandonment to God. Abandonment to me is acceptance of every circumstance I find myself in, whether it is pleasing or not pleasing to me.

This acceptance/abandonment is not based on the intentions of men but on the belief that God has either willed or permitted the circumstance for my great good and will work it for my good and the good of others.

In the circumstance, it may very well be that some human does not have good intentions towards me but my acceptance is not based on human intentions but on Gods intentions, which will out in the end regardless of any human intentions.

At first, I experienced my cross/trials with great peevishness. Fatalistically. In a pouting way. It was not abandonment WITH joy.

But now I am able to bear trials with some happiness because I've seen the good that has come to me from the trials.

1 Peter 1:6-7
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.
These trials show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested...so when your faith remains strong through many trials it will bring you much praise and honor and glory on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.

II Peter 2:9-11 “then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,10 and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.

Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones,11 whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord.”

James 1:2-4
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Romans 2:6-11 “He will render to each one according to his works:
7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;8 but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.9 There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek,10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.11 For God shows no partiality.”

“More than that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured out through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5
