Hi everyone!
I'm new, just joined yesterday. Its nice to see a great Christian website where Christians from around the world can connect and support one another.
The word "Christian" today has become a dirty word among many non-Christians and just people in general. Its saddening that Christian voices are being smothered, we are mocked and taunted on other websites just because we believe in Jesus and The Bible.
Atheists, Agnostics and others "claim" to be tolerant, easygoing, understanding and accepting but when Christian beliefs are shared or even if we as Christians stand up for ourselves, we are booed, down voted and ridiculed.
Someone on a different, extremely popular website posted a picture with a blog about how a Moslem woman was unfortunately beaten to death by extremists in her country, which is indeed extremely sad and horrible.
However, the very first comment after she posted this blog was that: "Religion is the root of all evil. If it weren't for religion, this horrible crime would not have happened to this woman." Then a general blanket statement was made by this commenter: "Christians hate Jews and Moslems, Moslems hate Christians and Jews, and Jews hate Christians and Moslems and its all a merry circle of hate."
I immediately replied: "Christianity is not a religion of hate. Christianity does not teach or advocate hate, intolerance and violence. Christianity is about love and forgiveness." After writing this I was instantly attacked that my statement was untrue and that I was the same as Moslems who repeat the oft cliched statement that "what happened to the poor woman was not true Islamic behavior,"
I was attacked by several people for my statement on Christianity and only received 5 votes, whereas the first commenter who gladly blamed all religions, and accused Christians of hating Jews and Moslems received a grand total of 190 up votes!
I'm not surprised because like I mentioned earlier Christianity has become quite unpopular in the world today, and Christian voices are being stifled and we are almost treated like criminals.
Atheists who claim to be tolerant, yet treat Christians badly and unfairly exhibit the same spirit/character traits that they accuse Christians of having. Its quite ironic when you think of it.
If only everyone would follow the example of Jesus and uproot hate from their hearts, there would be peace and harmony in the world.
