hey SeaBass, we were born into sin, we had no choice in the matter. By ONE man's sin "Adam", sin passed on all of us. Romans 5:19 as was put up by svedbygrace. Read this Bible verse in your Bible.
This is the issue you have had all along SeaBass. You are a sinner who needs to be saved. We ALL are sinners that need to be saved. We cannot save ourselves. Only by the sinless sacrafice of Jesus Christ on the cross are we made right with God. We cannot be made right on our own. Just like we were born into sin because we are of Adam's race. Now Jesus has come, the perfect God-Man to fix what Adam messed up.
Each of us has to accept God's available atonement for sin. Not by our own works, but by HIS - Jesus Christ - work on the cross. He paid the price.,penalty, cost, to a Holy God. God turned away from His Son Who was holy and sinless enough to carry our penalty in His sinless body. He was the sinless sacrafice who made atonement for us all.
We chose to sin BECAUSE we are sinners. We are not sinners BECAUSE we sin. We are sinners before we have done any good or bad thing. See if you can wrap your mind around that sentence. I had to read it a bunch of times before grasping the truth of it.
Paul did NOT say the many were made sinners UNCONDITIONALLY by being born sinners. That idea is being forced into the verse by savdbygrace.
Rom 5:12 says "...and so death passed upon all men, for that
all have sinned:" Paul did
NOT say "for that all are born sinners".
Rom 5:19 "
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."
1) v19 is an if-then type statement. If the first part of the verse is true, then the second part is just as true
2) "many" refer to the same people both times. So
"IF" it is true many were made sinners UNCONDITIONALLY,
"THEN" it is also true that same many will be made righteous UNCONDTIOANLLY and you have Universalism. So again, Paul did
not say many were UNCONDITONALLY made sinners or many were UNCONDITIONALLY made righteous.
3) the point being made by Paul is many that have been affected by sin since sin entered the world through Adam, Christ has brought about a cure for that sin by His obedience in dying on the cross. So Christ did not die for just some mythical Calvinistic elect, but died for as many affected by sin.
4) no one is a sinner until they sin as no one is righteous until they do righteousness
