how can anybody know that the bible is true when it was written so long ago with many different versions all contradicted each other. It is also not the only ancient religious book that has been written so why not believe them, surely some one is wrong. How do you know that Buddhism,Islam, Hinduism or maybe one of the Greek gods (Zeus, Apollo Posidian) or maybe a Norse god (viking).

P.S. please no " you need to have faith" or "your wrong because it is/isn't in the bible" answer

You test it.

For me...I tested what the Holy Bible stated regarding physical things (like creation, etc.), and when I saw that what it said matched modern science, I then had no trouble trusting it when it came to statements regarding the non-physical.

The Word of God is true, because it's the only source that can truly transform the heart, down to it's very depths (Heb. 4:12). In the past, I have been swayed by different religions before I became a believer, and I can tell you there is no full satisfaction, no true depths of understanding of the human existence and it's need for it's sinful depravity in anything else but Jesus. The bible was actually written mainly in 3 language. Translations occurred later for people who don't speak Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic, which were the original language of the bible. If you can tell, you mentioned mythology that one existed, what is it now? Myths. Now Islam actually has taken some of it's roots from the bible, but perverted it to the way they want. Buddhism acknowledges some sin, but it's claim to find the truth of peace is contradictory because it teaches you how to rely on yourself inwardly, which is sinful itself! How can a man learn good from his own sinful mind? Hinduism is very similar. Actually the bible says back as far as Moses. And it's still saving lives and teaching men about truths.

The Holy Bible is the only scripture set which accurately describes the creation of the Universe - which matches modern cosmology. We have to ask ourselves how people living thousands of years ago could have known this before the advent of the modern sciences, and yet it is accurately penned all the way through the Bible.

The Holy Bible contains over 20 chapter length creation accounts - all relevant to each other and fully compatible with modern science.

The islam Koran is a close second - only because it merely copied and paraphrased the Holy Bible to begin with!

But that does not really answer the question you have basically given me your opinion rather fact which why I find it hard to come to a decision about religion and as you said your self you have been tempted by others. Really when a christian says he has faith really means hes having a guess at which God. It almost seems silly that God gave us free will so were running around like headless chickens not knowing what to do with ourselves.

If you disagree with me then you have to believe that the earth is flat and at the center of the universe and that the sun orbits our planet otherwise you are contradicting your first comment.

1) "Written a long time ago" has no bearing on if it is true or not. If was true 10,000 years ago it still is.
2) The "many versions which contradict each other is a paper tiger. The manuscript evidence is excellent. We have thousands of manuscripts and parts of manuscripts. We now know that the manuscripts were not changed over the years as some skeptics had in years past, claimed. Versions are made by humans who have taken the manuscripts and produced a bible in a different language. I use three different versions (KJV, NASB, NLT) and I have found that they all agree for the most. So your argument is not based on facts but fiction.

It is also not the only ancient religious book that has been written so why not believe them, surely some one is wrong. How do you know that Buddhism,Islam, Hinduism or maybe one of the Greek gods (Zeus, Apollo Posidian) or maybe a Norse god (viking).

1) The bible has proven itself to be very accurate in terms of history and archaeology, to an amazing degree like no other book has ever done.

2) The bible was written over 1500 years by 40 plus authors who wrote 66 books. These books harmonize in amazing ways.
a) The theology of the bible remains coherent through out the book.
b) Prophecy recorded in scripture has been amazingly accurate.

3) Lastly, you will never believe in the bible as a spiritual book if you do not believe in the God it is all about. I have gotten to know Him and He does speak to me on occasion. When He does speak, it is always amazing. Those on the outside of Christianity have no clue what they are missing or the would immediately become Christians.

I find it very odd that you ask us to prove the bible and yet you say don't talk about faith. That is problematic as you become a Christian thru faith.

I have studied religion, it's only considered an opinion to someone who never studied it himself and assumes anything. I never was tempted, I was looking for answers, and Christianity was the only thing that truly was genuine. You think we don't know, but you forget that Jesus and the apostles even said that there will be people who will pervert the truth. To the believer, there are fakers and trues, and the trues are trying to help people not be lead by fakers. But to unbelievers they think we all are clueless and confused and contradicting the bible. That's what I call ignorance. Friend, God isn't ignorant, matter of fact, we all are but Him. He isn't going to obey sinful man because man won't first believe before seeing evidence. That's why God said, show me your faith first then I'll show you greater things, not the other way around. God knows man way too well to say, yeah I'll perform a miracle so that you can believe.

In order to answer your questions in an intelligent manner, it would be helpful to know the following:

Which particular passages do you question?

What are the contradictions you mention?

Do you know the Word?

Have you read the Bible in its entirety and in context?

Do you know what Truth is?

Do you know what "wrong" is? If so, how?

You are lost, I think you are on the right road but you are looking at the wrong signs...

You can't come to accept Christianity through logic, but only faith... I know that sounds right there that it is fallible... However logic backs up Christianity too 100%...

You can come to know Christianity and its stance through logic, but only by faith can you understand...

We get multiple people on these forums like yourself every month, and you are probably going to start into a intellectual debate soon enough (In fact I think you have already gone down that path).

Problem is, is that you are only following the religion of science/philosophy (they are becoming the same thing now a days LOL) And you will take the wrong course of action and end up instigating a fight with someone... And when you push their buttons enough they will backlash and you will wright all of Christianity off as a sham...

the sad thing is, is that you will look to learn about Christianity though what people say instead of reading for yourself... Yet if you took that course of action for anything else you would be considered an ignorant moron... ( i know that sounds harsh but I am saying that off of what the world would call you...)

So why did he allow Jesus to walk on water and turn it to wine and part the see and send plagues of locus disease floods etc yet I'm supposed to believe he doesn't intervene. It almost seems like a con to have faith and the reason I think this is because if I don't believe I go to hell which according to most people seems that is the only reason for going to hell

Yes, people who reject God end up getting rejected by God. God is asking all of humanity to follow Him and those who go their own way will never find Him either.

No you're not understand friend. A person cannot rely on miracles for their salvation, faith only can do that. Jesus did those to prove His ministry and who He was. What He did was for our belief, but it was what God willed not man. Man didn't tell Jesus, I'll only believe in you if you heal me. Actually He said, according to your faith you are healed. He healed people because they believed He has this power. God always intervenes, that's why Jesus came, matter of fact, we Christians are one of things that God use to help people see Him.

Look, man is sinful. God is holy. Because man has rejected God by sinning. His sin condemns himself to hell. God said no, I don't want anyone to go there. I can't force man to be all saved because they have free will. But I will provide a way, I'll provide an atonement so that they will be seen as holy in my eyes. That's when Jesus was sent. Believe and you're saved, don't and you reject the way.

Thing I hate about these types of threads is that majority of these people are not wanting to learn about Christianity...

If I wanted to learn math i would start with 2+2=4 and hope to get into more advanced topics such as y = f(x)

However people such as this try to go into the class teaching y = f(x) and yell out that the teacher is incorrect on the basis of Shakespeare when in fact they have yet to learn 2+2=4

Most people on this forum will think that I am arrogant and do not believe in God. Actually I am very much open to that possibility the problem that I have is all the crap that surrounds It. By this I do mean the bible and other books and also traditions that we up hold. I mean how do we now that Jesus wasn't just another nutter like all the others at the time that said they were sons of god and prophets of this and that. I like to think that if God is real and almighty then he probably isn't that bothed how we live our lives he may not want to be worshiped maybe he wants all of us to just get on with the very short life that we have on this planet. I also don't think that we need religion to be good I am not religous yet I am not a bad person in my eyes and if God thinks I am then I am glad I don't worship him everyday.

Dan, I'm genuinely interested to see how the bible has got things right in regards to history,
Archeology, prophecies etc. Is there a quick reference I can look up?

Actually, if they believe we are wrong, it's foolish for them to come into the lions den alone. Even if they say they aren't and it looks like they don't. Somewhere inside they are searching. Only someone whose been in there shoes would know....

Hi BlackShuck
a person has to have faith, its not something a human being can know with their 5 senses.

Romans 10:10-17

viewing the king james version(kjv)
[SUP]
10
[/SUP]
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
[SUP]
11
[/SUP]
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
[SUP]
12
[/SUP]
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
[SUP]
13
[/SUP]
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
[SUP]
14
[/SUP]
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
[SUP]
15
[/SUP]
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
[SUP]
16
[/SUP]
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
[SUP]
17
[/SUP]
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Christianity is like no other.
Christianity promotes the helping and loving of others, even your enemies!
Christ said that the greatest gift we could receive is love.
The fruit of the spirit being, love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness[SUP], [/SUP]gentleness and self-control.

There is no other way. This is the truth. What other belief system promotes all this?

If mankind were to abide by the fruit of the spirit towards one another there would be no conflicts. This is what Christians are taught, to love one another. This truth hits the core of man. We know it is the truth, and I bet deep inside you know it is as well.
