I love how the Holy Spirit rushes in to fall on the people when they hear their sins are forgiven because they believe in what Jesus did for them!
There's the key word: "Believe".

If they didn't believe and rejected Christ...they would have condemnation left on them and that is something they choose..who would want that eh?...it's crazy

It sure is crazy to us - but as the Lord said: "For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." (Matthew 7:13)

I may be wrong but . . .

I think Magenta is saying being homosexual is not a sin (if one leads a celibate life).
But that wasn't the OPs question was it ? :)

Amen! brother...Believe!

What I love about the gospel is that it does not demand faith... the gospel supplies faith

There's the key word: "Believe".

Ok i'll chime in a bit here. I've been studying an evangelism class and I disagree with it and agree with it. I agree that when we witness to anyone we don't need to be telling them they are going to hell. Even though I don't agree we are bound by the Law anymore, I think we should allow them to admit they are sinning against the Lord. To do this we need to have a starting point and I think the Ten commandments is a great starting point.

I have been listening to Todd White a lot also and I believe his approach is good as well. He flowers the sinners with love and hope. Sometimes his first response is Jesus loves you and I love you. He has a desire to help people and he wants to show them love first and then he preaches the gospel.

I don't agree that this is how Jesus did it though. Jesus preached the good news and performed his healing, most the time, afterwards or during. The main thing we need to understand is we can't tell someone they are sinning if they don't know what sin is. Most people know that stealing is wrong, lying is wrong, cheating on your spouse is wrong etc... I think if we come at them with love and let them admit they are sinning then we have a way to share what they need to do to repent of those sins and find salvation through Christ.

As far as homosexuals are concerned. Are we the ones who change them or is it God? Lets say we witness to a homosexual and they sincerely accept Christ as their savior. Do they automatically get cured or stop their homosexual activity on the spot or thoughts of it? I would like to think the HS will change their spirit and during this process we can show them what the bible says about their lifestyle. Once they are saved the HS will work in their lives and start to change them. This might not be immediate because we have a nasty enemy and he knows each of our weaknesses and he will attack that person until either they give in or they tell the devil to bugger out.

Quote " I agree that when we witness to anyone we don't need to be telling them they are going to hell."

Wow! I dont know what people today would do if they heard Billy Sunday,John Wesley or William Booth. Their head would explode! We saw great revivals in those days because we weren't afraid to tell people "you are lost, you're going to hell and you need to make the Lord your Savior. What happened to conviction when preaching? How can you not sound the alarm and let people know the Lord may come tomorrow, you need to be ready? We have to be PC sharing the Gospel now? smh
You dont have to attack people but man at least tell them the truth.

i was referring to coming straight out at someone and say "you are going to hell." No one will respond positively to that. Yes at some point in the message we will tell them, after they understand what sin is, that the consequence is going to hell.

They along with all of us need to hear the gospel of the grace of Christ

..telling them that they are going to hell ( whether true or not true ) and to stop sinning is NOT the gospel!

Preach Jesus and HIs love to them and they will respond to His love for them.

But that wasn't the OPs question was it ? :)
OP said So first, we all know being gay, transgender, ect. is a sin.

Did you read the OP? Do you agree that a person who happens to be gay but is not acting on their sexual urges is sinning? Could you please give a Scriptural reference for this? Thank you.

It occurred to me yesterday that a time is coming when peoples personal sin choices are gonna take a backseat to having to survive in a very violent world. That's when the real witnessing will begin.

Just imagine if "Sinners in the Hands of an angry God" by Jonathan Edwards was preached these days!

She did not indicate they were not acting on their sin. And the Bible says if you lust you sin. Thats in Matt.

Good question! The scriptures recorded the answer for us!

Acts 4:8-12 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people,
[SUP]9 [/SUP] if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well,
[SUP]10 [/SUP] let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health.
[SUP]11 [/SUP] "He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone.
[SUP]12 [/SUP] "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

They were put in prison for preaching the gospel!

So I'm sitting here at my college and I heard a conversation between some students. They were talking about someone's sexual preferances. I got to thinking, "what would be an effective way to witness to them?" I don't plan on going up and just talking about Jesus right off the bat but just how would we witness to the LGBT community?

So first, we all know being gay, transgender, ect. is a sin. That's not the debate here. If you disagree with that statement you are free to start a new thread.

Second, the LGBT community has a lot of questions that are very legit. How would we go about answering them in a loving way?

Here are some questions I have heard:

"Well if I'm gay am I going to hell?"

"I was born this way and I can't change. Why would God condemn me?"

"What if I'm a good person? Would God still send me to hell for being gay?"

These are all legit questions and unless we know how to answer them effectivly with equal parts truth and love we will never reach a very hurt community.

So what are your thoughts? Because we can't just throw the cold hard truth in their faces. That would send them running to the hills. But we can't sacrifice truth for love either. We need to love them while being truthful. How do we do that?

Quote ""Well if I'm gay am I going to hell?"

Sin sends us to hell, yes. But the main thing that sends us to hell is not accepting Christ. If we accept Him and turn from sin we are saved from hell.

Quote
"I was born this way and I can't change. Why would God condemn me?"

God would not create you to be gay then condemn you. Being gay is not the right path,God has better for you. Being gay will leave you empty in the end, like all sin. God has a much better plan for your life.

QUOTE

"What if I'm a good person? Would God still send me to hell for being gay?"

Being a good person never saved anyone. We arent good.We are all full of all sorts of sin. We're human. Jesus covers all that sin, makes us a new person

She did not indicate either way whether they were acting or not acting on their sexuality. Nor was there any indication of lust given. My point is that if you want to witness to the gay community, and that was the point of the OP, then you need to start with the basics. It seemed pretty basic and obvious to me that she was starting from error. Being gay is not a sin.

But thats not true, being gay is a sin! You dont know whether they are acting on it or not.Even if they are not acting on it they need to pray that those thoughts be taken from them. We dont need to live in bondage. Either God can save to the uttermost or He cant. Yes,we all struggle but the goal is to please Him.

Please provide the Scriptures that show simply being gay is a sin. Not those that say acting on it, giving up their natural desires, being given over to their lusts etc. Just the plain and simple fact of being gay, show with Scripture how it is a sin. Thanks!

The act is a sin and in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 it states homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God

Thanks Lance but none of those say it is a sin to simply be gay. One needs to be acting in a sinful manner to be sinning, you know? Last I checked, just existing as a gay person was not a sin.
