How do you know if you are saved/born again?

As others have alluded to on here the Apostle John helps us to know this by what he wrote in his epistle 1 John chapters 2-4.
Read those chapters as he says and shows how to know you are saved and have eternal life abiding in you.

I see two questions here. You know you are born again simply because now you care about your relationship with the Lord, whereas before you didn't.

You know you are saved because:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 RSV

It's a lot easier to feel saved when you are obeying the Lord's commandments.
