Do you follow a certain plan, like one printed in your bible, or do you choose to pick a book (I.e. psalms, proverbs, one of the gospels),Do you just open your bible and read what ever is in front of you?
I am not asking these to start a debate on which version is best(I hope this thread does NOT turn into that)...I'm only asking because I am curious.
I have read the bible front to back 3 times in the last 23 years. His Spirit within me puts verses in my mind daily and because of that i have been searching the scriptures daily for almost the last 9 years since the day dawned and day star arose in my heart. So in answer to you question i let the Holy Spirit guide me into what He will show me and instruct me in and do not allow my carnal reasoning to hinder what the Spirit will show me and lead me to learn. May God do the same for you friend :)

I'm looking for satisfactory answers to the pressing questions that come to my mind concerning my true origins and the here and now and what is the purpose of life or my life?, why do human beings grow old and die?, what is God's plans for mankind?, why did God create this planet in the first place? etc etc.

I usually read it left to right, and sometimes, right to left.

Well, first thing I do is pray so that God speaks to me through a certain passage. I then pray that God directs me in a certain book and read from there. Let me tell you when I do this, God speaks volumes to me.

With my eyes. Sometimes I look for a particular chapter or passage. Currently, I'm reading a few OT books, then an NT book. Then a few more OT books and an NT book and so on. I ponder about what I've read and sometimes pray about any verses etc. that stand out. I often study sections I know little about. I've almost finished 1 Samuel.

I will read slowly as our brain is wired to see a few letters and form the words....it is easy to miss words as well if you just read it like you are reading a novel....I will read a particular text three to five times and then look all nouns, verbs, etc. up in the original languages and then study the text with prayer before, during and after........

As far as just reading....I will read some O.T. books and a few N.T. books at the same time.....

Right now, I'm using www.bible.com to direct my readings. I'm currently on the 1 year chronological plan but I also bookmarked Professor Horner's reading plan (which is quite intensive). There many other reading plans available and the ability to keep track of your reading as you go along. Maybe you'll find a reading plan that appeals to you!

Here are the links to the ones I use:

1 Year Chrono: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/64-reading-gods-story
Horner: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/19-professor-horners-bible-reading-system

I have just been studying to back up my arguements on forums :)
I did that before but truthfully, it set a bad habit for me and I would now much rather have a habit of reading & studying just to delight in it. But now it's difficult to break the old habit. As they say, old habits die hard!

[h=2]How do you read your bible?[/h].
I usually start with the left page and read to the right....... :D

Seriously, I read it for comfort and support. I have now..well I say this as I am on chapter 15 I think of revelation, read it 4 times front to back. But I have read it much more than that going from place to place. You can't do it wrong, just read it. :)

Each of these questions would make great topics for separate threads. You may want to start individual threads dealing with these.
I see your 'spiritual status' in your profile states UNSURE.
If you are serious about these questions and feel uneasy starting new threads you can message me and I'll try helping you through them.

I read a chapter of the OT starting from Genesis 1, a chapter from the NT starting from Matthew 1 and the Proverb of the day; in addition to working on my commentary. When I reach the end of either the OT or NT I start over, while continuing to read through the other testament.

I'm a topicana kind of guy. I study topics if I cana.
Ok, ok that's how I first approached Scripture when I was a babe in the Lord and since then it has been my favored approach.
I guess we are wired differently. Deductively vs Inductively.
