Are people supposed to focuse on obeying God's commandments in every way possible and analyze everything they do to avoid sinning, or are they supposed to try to live a good life and not worry that much about whether what they are doing is right or wrong?

Balance in the middle of the road... not too far to the left and not too far to the right :)

One is the believer who is concerned with the legal side of the scriptures - the dos and don'ts... the law. They know the scriptures back to front, they are quick to find fault with others and condemn. The Pharisees were like that.

The other you are describing seems to be disregarding the importance of obeying the law. It's very important to know what is right and wrong, according to God, because those who do not obey God will perish.

So it can be confusing to understand the balance. I think personally... whatever revelation you have, you walk in it to the best of your ability. What you cannot do, God will help you with. He will not give you a revelation that you cannot keep - without His strength.
And God will reveal more and more of His Word as you walk in the light that you have, step by step, He lights up the way ahead, with just enough light to walk in for that hour.
As if you were walking down a road, everything behind you, you are now understanding. You build on that understanding in the steps ahead.

Yeah that makes the most sense I guess.

Set your minds on the things of the spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Paul said religious thinking, and trying to stop sin of your own power is fruitless. Only God can remove sin and restore us to him, We do this by setting our hearts and minds on the things above, this is the only way. (collosians 2 and 3)

A Christian should go as far as avoiding certain situations that may lead them to committing sin. It may mean avoiding certain places you used to go to when you were unsaved or avoiding bad companies because evil communication corrupts good manners.

They hole reason the bible exist is to teach you gods ways!! SO YES ITS ALL ABOUT OBEYING GODS LAW!! To deny this is to deny god becauseg god is his law. God is love, ask yourself what is love! Love is obeying gods law!!!!!! Please study this, most churches will deny this. Wide is the gate and narrow is the way! Love your neibor in all ways. Dont sin and you will find god. This isnt easy but i promise its best to carry your cross.

Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Please dont take offence but I dont believe you understand these scriptures fully. There is two things you have to except if you are going to be saved, his death...and his life!!! If you except his death, you except that all have sinned and need a savior because we cant pay are death penalty. And if you axcept his life you except his ways(his law aka love) because in his life he had no sin!!! If sin equals death than to be with out sin equals life! JESUS life and death shows us the way, the truth and the life that we are supose to live!

Im not sure!! Scriptures like that can be misquoted when used in reference to what i was saying. They can take concern away from completely following gods ways. They make new believers feel that only mature cristians have to completely follow god.

THIS IS A LIE!!! You are very confused. GOD IS LOVE, THAT LOVE IS LIFE, AND THAT LIFE IS THE WAY WE ARE SUPPOSED TO LIVE. PLEASE THINK AND PRAY ALOT CONCERNING WHAT IM SAYING TO YOU. GOD IS LOVE AND YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT GOD TO BE SAVED... SO WHAT IS LOVE!

You are redeemed bye his death and saved bye his life.. in his life he had no sin so you are saved when you stop sinning. I BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE'NT ACCEPTED CRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR. WALK AWAY FROM SIN SO THAT YOU ACCEPT HIS LIFE... THEN BYE HIS DEATH YOU WILL BE REDEEMED.

Why do you use the ways of the world to explain scripture? What is wisdom.. is it not to know and accept gods ways. When you stop sinning, you should cry aloud, spare not and lift up thy voice like a trumpet and show my people there transgression.

The Bible says to run from sin and pursue righteousness. Sin is the stuff that will mess up your life.
