This is a question everyone asks at one point in their lives, and is never mastered. But learning to hear his voice is very important and just as important to know the voice of the devil. Now Rarely Jesus will speak to us with an obvious voice but on occasion he does. I wil state only a few ways to hear his voice for now, But these are some of the basic ways he speaks. You see God will often times speak to us through another person, such as an encouraging word. Or a wise teaching to be learned, or a powerful message of salvation and freedom. I will say this now, God is NOT a god of condemption or A god of law,He is a god of love, peace, joy, warmth, he makes us giggle and cry tears of joy for no reason at all. He speaks to us through our spirit the most, also known as our hearts or our inner man( the holy spirit) have you ever felt your soul tug you to do something? Even if its just to go to sleep? That is god speaking to you. Have you ever had a sense of knowing? such as somehow knowing something amazing is about happen? That is God speaking to you. He aslo loves to speak through music, and best of all his word. Now the devil also speaks to us, he will use our thoughts to trick us- negitive thoughts only. If you ever think you are useless, or how you can never do anything right that is not you speaking its the devil. He will even somtimes use christians to speak to you. I once went to a friends house for help with a question, he intended to help me but i left with a sense of sadness and had become very confused with my faith. That was the devil because god is not a god of confusion. Also saying words outloud is a powerful thing, but be carefure not to say negitive things about yourself or others outloud because the devil will jump on that. If negitive thoughts come to your mind say scripture out loud until the thoughts or negitive feelings go away. Praying to god outloud is also a fantastic way to grow in him, I have more to say but this will do for now, keep strong in the lord and always know he deeply loves you:]

This might be a bit off topic, but are you saying that the devil can be in our minds/influence our thoughts? Just curious.
I've heard God in the middle of sinning. I've heard Him through music, through creation, through His Word, through fellow believers. Through a quiet dawn and a radiant sunset. Through tears of agony and tears of joy.
Sometimes I purposefully don't listen to Him. Sometimes I have so much "noise" going on around me that I realize I'm not even trying to listen to Him. Sometimes He has been silent with me. Once, He was silent with me on a mission trip (a mission trip! Of all places to be silent!
) but He still gently let me know that He was still there; I hadn't been abandoned. During that time it was quite...scary. He had never been silent with me like that before. But looking back now, it was quite a growth of my trust in Him.

Nice posts & thread. Yes it does take practice to discern our own thoughts, the Holy Spirit's voice & the satanic ones.
Sometime count the number of thoughts with a pen mark you have in a couple minutes. They arn't all your own.
I've also found that the devil or fallen angels do whisper nice thoughts, but the end result may not be so nice.

Just read the scriptures prayerfully and stop focusing on voices in your head.
take every thought captive means don't run around assuming you've heard God or the devil or anything else.
stay calm. settle down. make your thoughts conform to His words.
be at peace.
don't mine your mental activity for revelation from God.
that's not how God speaks.
read His Word and He will enlighten you concerning what He is saying in His Word, eventually.
this takes faith in Him and work on your part.
everything you need to know is in His Word. live by what you learn, and you will be happy, no matter the circumstances.

I know when I first came into my relationship with christ I was scared to speak outside his word ... I stayed so hidden in it that I was of no use in the world ...the world didn't understand His language ... In fact I was told once , you are so locked up in Hods word you are of no use in the world ... I gasped and was shocked ! I laugh about it now ... I suppose I was so protective of my relationship with God that I didn't care if anyone understood it ... Pride revealing itself ... I felt like a little child scared to let go if my daddy's leg and go from

Our words ate to reveal his kindness, his mercy, his forgiveness and all good things that are of Him..they are a gift He has given to us , to first relate to Him , then others...
I found much freedom in Chris , when I took off the mask of religion , with reassurance from
Dad that He restored , and handed them back to me to use properly ... Proper use being things if his nature ... encouraging , wholesome, holy , and good .. not udon them to cause someone else to stumble in their walk ... discourage, gossip, Mick or belittle anyone with them ... it's amazing what happens when you hand things back to Him that are ultimately from His making ... I asked god to help
Me in this area ... to speak kindness and goodness ... so tjat others cone to know Hom better by them ... If we are able to do anything at all, it is only by the grace of God and His mercy ... We are able to speak at all...

The Truth of God, HIS WORD, TELLS and speaks to us LOUD AND CLEAR.... Amazing that God gave us the Word to PROOF all we hear, and the MOST people believe the LIES of the false teahers.

The Word of God is written down, but it takes GOD to REVEAL the TRUTH for you, and then the Word makes 100% sence! Every time I get a revelation, the Truthjust falls into place and I know God's will better. If I may give you ONE WORD of advice.... God will NEVER speak apposing to HIS GOSPEL..... Everything God gives us, wil lfit 100% in scripture.
There is only ONE PICTURE painted in the Word of God... It is a picture of you, PERFECT IN GOD! NOTHING ELSE! The WHOLE purpose of God's word is summed up in INE verse..... Jesus said..... Matthew 5:48... Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Now please note Jesus had NO ARGEMENTS ABOUT THESE WORDS!!!! Not a single person that He preached too on that mountain, said to Jesus..... But hey, Jesus nobody is pperfect, or we cannot attain perfection here on earth.... Maybe ut was because they were not so complicated as us. Or maybe they just believed Jesus! But all I know HE HAD NO ARGUMENT!

Yes as some of you have stated He speaks through his word, If we do not know his word we can easily be tricked by the devil. The holy spirit always speaks according to gods word, we can never be 100% if it is god speaking, so we have to know his word in order to Confirm it is him speaking. But of course Every now and then God will speak to us in different ways. I remember one time talking to god about how amazing the dreams were he showed me and i clearly heard him say to me( I will show you greater things) Yesterday i was talking to him about how my heaven is to be with him and in his loving arms always and i clearly heard Jesus say to me( I am coming for you) I desperately want to show everyone who he is, because once we finally understand who he is we can hear him much better because we are more in tune to his nature.
I also think it's time I said what Jesus has been saying to me for the past few days. You say for a while my faith seemed stale, I was running on fumes. So I finally told Jesus i had nothing left to give, that i give up he could have control of everything in my life and he could take me because i truly had nothing left to give and i told him I now cannot go on without an abundance of him in my life. I said i needed a life with him like nothing i could have imagined. I said this and then suddenly I felt something new inside me. even now i do not know what it is but i was filled with a sense of knowing something amazingly wonderful is about to happen to me. A sense of knowing all my heartfelt prayers and desires for him are finally going to be answered. I hve never been so happy in my life than these past few days as i experienced joy like nothing i ever felt, peace i never knew, love i haven't felt in so long. I started to have doubts, what if i was wrong? What if this is just me being hopeful? So looked up how to know if god is taking to you. I came accross a Blog and before i read it i prayed to jesus to show me in this blog that I was right in believing these things to be true and that it truly is him speaking to me. I read a part that just hit me, when god speaks to you in the spirit you feel, joy, peace, love thankfulness and i realized all these have hapened to me during the times these few day believing these things. So yes something increadable is about to happen to me, I think Jesus wanted this too because i told him how I have wanted this for so long and I am so ready for this and i heard him say (I have been ready) But he must have been waiting for me to have run out of fumes and ready to give up. I know who jesus is because i have seen him, i have not seen him with my eyes. But i have seen him with my heart and my spirit. we have eyes that can see so much more than our eye balls do, our hearts can see what our eyes cannot and it makes our spirits soar
I would like to update everyone on God speaking to us. I was reading the journeys of pual in acts- he is my favorite and when i was done reading acts i was at peace. I am calm and i just had to pray to the lord jesus. Now My cousin wants me to go over to her house today and i wanted to go but i didn't know if i should or not as i am waiting for the wonderful gift jesus has for me. So I prayed to jesus to show me what to do, and right now i can feel the holy spirit instructing me to stay here and wait for the gift from jesus. This reminds me very much of when jesus instucted the apostils to stay in Jeruselam until they recieve the holy spirit. As mentioned God indeed spoke to me through his word, And even though i have yet to receive this gift i am constantly reminded by him that it is coming soon. I cannot explain what this gift is to you because mere words are not enough. Except that all my prayers and desires for him will finally have been answered. i do not know when exactly this will happen, but i know it will be like the blink of an eye, a flash of light.
