Isaiah 8:20
(20) To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Any doctrine found in the NT must agree with what is revealed in the OT. The NT does not have a different set of doctrines to the OT. The NT reveals the OT, it expands on the light in the OT.

You seem to have a healthy and good understanding of your own salvation, so already knowing Jesus, Yeshua, as your Lord and Savior, it seems you need no advice on where to start, so pray and let the Lord lead you in the way you should study. He is always good. Before I had read the New Testament, I was led to read Isaiah, then I read the New Testament, and then I began all of the Word at Genesis. All of it is true, so anywhere you feel is best is most likely best. Remember always to ask for understanding as you read, and remember not even those given the words to write down understood all, so do not expect to understand everything. I have been reading for close to 50 years, and it is still new to me........Yahweh, God, bless all you do as you have blessed all here with your participation, amen.

First off, I am quite happy with my 1984 NIV, might be used book store, but it saved me cash and is a reliable version.

But, your web site JohnChingford2007, you refer to refute the 2010 version, uses a verse which is taken out of context by most Christians today. The updated reading would be the most correct, within the context of the passage. However, that is not to say that it is not true - that you can do everything (outside of sin) through Jesus' empowerment of you.

So, old reading is wonderful and true even when the verse is used outside of its context. New reading is also true because it is what Paul actually meant. And if anyone understood that he could do anything - it would be Paul.

For me, I prefer to have my text as accurate as possible to what was originally being communicated (2010 version for this passage cited) and know that I have plenty of proof else where - like the entire book Acts, to show that nothing is impossible for my God or me, in Him.

I had a website once that showed a side by side comparison of the new NIV compared to KJV and there were something like 300 sentences deleted from the new NIV. I will see if I can find the site again.

The bible is fantastic because we can read it over and over for a hundred years and learn something new But i have a question. I have a book called god's promises it is completely filled with scripture of all sorts from the bible would that be the same as reading his book for spiritual food?

The Lord gave us His Word, albeit in many translations, but I have read many, and they all do say the same thing when it gets right down to what the Lord taught. Anything else written down with quotes from the Word could be leading.

My faith has always been in reading the Bible first, and frankly, I am afraid of reading anything that is "about" the Word without the writer present to dialogue with, to question about any ideas he may purport.

You demonstrate faith in our Lord, so trust Him to teach you. It is written we are taught of God, and this is true. Yahweh, God, bless you and light your way always, amen.
