I would like some advice please. I have met a person who says they were saved 30 years ago...aged 8. They do not have a relationship with Christ at all and are bowed under addictions and powerlessness. They state that it is God that they refer too and were surprised when i suggested a relationship with Christ was something they could have....they think he is just part of the trinity, that like God, he is distant and not very knowable. They say they have a great faith, have a lot of 'knowledge' but there seems to be no love, certainley none for themselves. They are not loveable despite their salvation. When i question how this could be? I am told, well i know its not true...if it was I would be calling Him a liar.....but I just do not ''feel'' anything. But i know. And they then question, despite being saved, whether they will get iever get into heaven. They work in a profession where they do very well indeed, very responsibly, yet have no social life and no joy.
Help.
Thank you <><

Their "salvation" is a notion instead of being real.

This is not salvation..."They do not have a relationship with Christ at all and are bowed under addictions and powerlessness."

This individual needs to be brought to a place of conviction whereby they can truly repent and yield to God. God can deliver them and He will raise them up, but they need to repent.

I would recommend this tract to those who are in bondage to sin and think they are saved.

It takes more than a mental exercise or physical rituals to be saved. it takes the Holy Spirit within to agree with your spirit that you are a child of God.

Your friend seems oppressed and choked by the cares of this world. God planted the Word in their hearts but they have allowed thorns to crop up and need to some gardening
... sorry have to tuck the kids in. brb

God isn't distant and the Holy Spirit is a Comforter and Teacher.

from the sound of it, your friend needs to be reassured about WHO God really is and How He loved the world so much He sent His only Son to save THEM. that THEY are lovable and that God does LOVE them and wants them to break the chains of lies and sins that bind them. God wants them to be FREE because He loves them so much and He wants to have a personal relationship with them.

there are so many scriptures that speak about it. I'll just quote a few of my favorites:

Romans 8
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. [SUP]13 [/SUP]For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. [SUP]14 [/SUP]For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. [SUP]15 [/SUP]For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” [SUP]16 [/SUP]The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, [SUP]17 [/SUP]and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

Hebrews 13:5-6

New King James Version (NKJV)

[SUP]5 [/SUP]Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”[SUP][a][/SUP] [SUP]6 [/SUP]So we may boldly say:
The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
”[SUP][b][/SUP]

I have grave concerns for this person. A PERSONAL knowledge of Christ and His forgiveness will be there when someone is "saved." As well, I have always (personal interpretation) felt that Romans and James make us well aware that when the "saving" is there then there will follow the desire to act as Jesus acted and the necessary changing of one's life.

they must not know much about Jesus or the gospel. You should read scripture of how Jesus loves them and died for them and how He will change their life if they allow Him to.

Pray that God will open their eyes and move them in repentance and faith in the Crucified and Risen One.

I was once in the same condition as your friend, except I was worse. My sister prayed every night that God would save me. I believe my father also did the same. It took me 2 months to do a 180 degree turn and become a christian. So add this person to your prayer list and pray for him before you go to sleep. It may take years, but no matter how long it takes, keep praying for him.

This is of great concern to me but not in the way that the others have posted reflect. This person may very well be saved. the existence of addictions in a persons life does not exclude salvation but rather a clear sign of a lack of maturation. In short, this person likely did get and is saved but that's as far as his spiritual life went.

The Apostle Paul addressed a group of believers that remained in spiritual infancy still feeding on the milk of the Word instead of maturing and taking in the meat. Many churches today don't have the foggiest idea how to help mature a new disciple and many are left to founder and try, most unsuccessfully, to find their own way to maturation. It is very likely this person, once saved, didn't know what to do next and neither did those around him. In turn, many new disciples find speaking to a pastor very intimidating for fear that they will be judged instead of loved.

If you take the time to look around and watch those that profess Christ and claim salvation you will see how easy it is to come to this conclusion based on the actions and speech of many believers. We go to church church and its "Hi brother" and "God bless you and be with you" but outside the church building its profanity and stepping on others to get for yourself.

Christians, and especially those of the clergy, elders and deacons of a church, tend to be very hard to correct when they behave differently in the world than they do at church. There is a double mindedness at work which makes those that came to Christ under a heavy load load, especially those already under addiction, hard pressed to become mature disciples ready and equipped to go into the shadowlands of the world and carry out the work god has set before us to do.

My suggestion you you is to point this person to a good Christ based accountablity group that focuses on the addiction he is currently carrying. The next thing I would suggest is find a solid bible study group to point him to. This may require that you go with him and "hold his hand" till he gets his spiritual feet wet. What this person desperately needs is to be in a good, bible believing, Christian community that will come along side of him and help lay the foundation that he will later build on.

When you first went to school you had to be taught good study habits and be disciplined in order to learn and grow. As you grew older the teachers spent less time directly guiding you and allowed you to act independently to accomplish the work that would eventually lead you to graduation. The same goes for spiritual maturation of a disciple. They need the groundwork laid or they will go astray and the sins of their past will compound and weight them down.

As Christians singly and as the Body of Christ (church) collectively we need to be intentional in raising up men and women. First to salvation then to maturation and finally in to evangelists that can lead people to Christ.

In Christ,

Bishop SEH

Very confusing post, not sure what you are trying to say, but obviously this person isn't a saved and sanctified follower of Christ, that is a given!

I guess we need to get back to what a real follower of Christ is and what isn't!
I was found blameless before him!

Daniel 6:22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.
When those who say there is no one righteous, there is no one pure and holy before God, and all men were born depraved, with no ability to choose to do good or be blameless in all their conduct, need to look no further than Daniel 6-22!
Here we see a young man who from the beginning led a holy, pure, and blameless life before God! He obeyed God from his heart and lived among a heathen culture and a wicked King who seemed to admire Daniel for his strong devotion in prayer, worship, and strong moral character.
Daniels love and fear of God was admirable, as well as his love for others, but he never compromised his life and witness to give into his flesh, and its sinful desires.
Here is a strong example of a man who was a doer of God’s word, obedient and submissive in all areas of his life, so God sent his mighty angels to shut the lion’s mouth, which saved Daniel from instant death and torture. He was unharmed, because he proved himself to God, by living a blameless life.
But in today’s modern Christian circles this is not the standard of conduct, where they will bring up the few godly men and women of the bible who fell hard in great sin, and some found repentance and some did not, but bottom line is no one can live a blameless holy life before God, in their minds!
No one can ever stop sinning, i.e. fornicating, adultery, drunkenness, hate, envy, etc. Because all have sinned and trying to live a blameless life as Daniel, Joseph, Noah, and many others did is impossible, and those who claim they do are just foolish and prideful.
So we see that Daniel had to do something to get something, God didn’t provide a covering for Him, but tested His servant to see if he would obey Him, and he did right from the beginning, which led God to intervene in the Lion’s den, saving Daniels life, and getting all the glory as the King and many others looked on in total amazement of the love and power of his God to deliver him out of harm’s way!
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Psa 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Psa 34:9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!
PS. I believe if Daniel decided in his free will and ability which God gave him, to disobey God, and live a life of compromise giving into his lust and desires, then God would have chosen another servant, and Daniel would have been lion food.
God is no respecter of persons; His hand is upon the righteous or those who simple do what is right, by obeying God from their heart made pure through faith!
Those who choose to disobey Him, and make excuses why they cannot live a holy and blameless life in this present age, or think God overlooks willful sin and disobedience to His commands, because His mercy and grace covers them or He feels sorry for the struggling sinner, have been greatly deceived!
Hos 10:13 You have plowed wickedness; you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies, because you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also will reap.
Ga6:8 For he sowing to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh. But he sowing to the Spirit will reap life everlasting from the Spirit
So when those who like to defend sin, bring up the few godly men who fell to use to defend why they can live IN sin and still be saved, remember Daniel, his example, and remember who we are to mimic and obey! Jesus and His sinless life, not the few who choose to disobey God, and paid a high price for it!

2 Peter 1"

1
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8For if these things be in you, and abound, they makeyou that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
