Sorry I am such an offense to you mike. Obviously you started this thread with me in mind, that's ok. Why should I bother with what's already being said, sometimes with the most crass methods but still all the same. Am I seeking club membership??
1 cor 13 speaks volumes, especially about clanging cymbals, best part is when being opposite to the fruit of the spirit to correct people as love.
Armchair quarterback ?? Back to crass to make a point. Personal snide remarks are never warranted, but hey it's done in love?? Please spare me the theatrics.

Maturity in Christ shows with what level one can control their tongue, do you know my heart, what "doctrine" I hold??

Please brother don't judge me, you don't know who I am, what I think or why I come here.

Blessings, and I assure you I'm not offended, amazed but not offended.
Many members to a body, each has a different function, is one less important than the other??

If I wanted to put this all on you i would have mailed you. I admit you were in my mind. But not you alone
Nor are these sentiments to even the forums. This is a thread over an issue thats big today. If people have
different opinions on this, then as you they can voice them. Thats a forum.

The greatest challenge and lessons we learn is how to convey the message, correction or encouragement, our tongue can kindle a fire for all the wrong reasons. And like you said, it's a forum, so there's always going to be challenges, it's how we choose to meet them that determines one effectiveness in conveying what we all share.

I agree with this thread, but I better clarify how I define doctrine.

I came on this forum and I'm immediately reading about the Five Points of Calvinism, when I was unaware there were any, or the Importance of the Council of Someplace, or the Theory of Whatever, or the Whatchamacalit Whozits, or the Star-Bellied Sneetches, or ... well, I could go on and on, but you get my point. I see someone write about the Council of Nicaea, and it looks like tax code to me.

All I ever thought I needed was the Bible. What does Jesus command, what do the apostles say, what are the prophecies in both testaments, what does God want me to do?
the first parrt is so true. but its all good to know about. that comes LATER.

but the last part you wrote has to come first.

all God wants you to do is believe upon Jesus, Trust in Him. you don't have to DO anything but have faith.

since we love Him, we want to read the Book.

you GOTTA be grounded in the pure doctrines of the apostles and Christ: and that's easy.
read the 4 Gospels as Historical narrative.
read Romans as the first Book Christians need to understand what happened to them (it came like the WIND and we knew not from whence it came: the new birth). and what is happening to them.

then i would say Ephesians, for it explains what the CHURCH is.

worry about OT prophecies later (in fact, don't worry at all: they find their fulfillment in THE PROMISED SEED: JESUS.)

a supercool member i recommend corresponding with is YARIGHT. he's gentle and he has a surprising understanding of the scriptures that is of great comfort and joy.

love zoney

“But Elymas the conjurer (for so his name is, if translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Then Saul (who is also Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him and said, O son of the Devil, full of all deceit and all craftiness, enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you. And you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a while. And immediately a mist and a darkness fell on him, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. Then, seeing the thing happening, the proconsul believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord” (Acts 13:8-12 MKJV).

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

ya Abiding i'd like to see a modern Apostle do that:rolleyes:

notice the net result of all of it: the Apostolic office, and his supernatural power:

Then, seeing the thing happening, the proconsul believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord”

I think you already are with us. Although we may disagree on some things (like when God will rapture his people) we are a part of the one body of Christ. baptized into that Body by God himself. And what God has put together, no one (even us) can not tear apart.

Amen and Amen!

Exodus 31:18
(18) And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
Romans 13:8-10
(8) Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
(9) For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
(10) Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (10 commandments)

HOW DOCTRINE DISRUPTS UNITY

See what a problem doctrine is? No wonder unity meetings are about feeling good. Thinking would kill them. No wonder shallow messages are gaining in popularity and people prefer entertainment to reason and analysis. The minute something of substance is taught, disagreement erupts.

How did Jesus deal with this problem? He chose substance. What about when people disagreed with Him? He showed them where they were wrong and what the Truth was (Matt. 22). "But He didn't unite all of them," someone observes. Sure He did. He united them against Himself and His disciples. Unity is desirable, but Truth is paramount. Jesus would have united all of Israel if He could have; it was His devout wish (Matt. 23:37). But Truth (doctrine) is more important--even if disunity results and prevails.

Only a few will choose to walk in Truth. The rest will reject it--because of tradition (Matt. 15:1-9), immorality (2 Peter 2), the desire to have their own following (Acts 20:30), peer pressure (Matt. 26:69-75), lukewarmness (Rev. 3:15-16), or because they have lost their first love (Rev. 2:4). All of them will have to live eternally with their decision.

So long as doctrine thrives, there will be division among God's people. Even man-made denominations cannot avoid it. It is simply a fact of spiritual life. We do not rejoice in division, but we do rejoice in the Truth and in the God who revealed it to us. Only those who love Him will experience true unity forever.

wow. what a cool article.
thanks Abiding.
it gives much encouragment.

i liked this part
"God never designed the church to decide doctrine. Jesus is the head over the church, and he ordained elders to lead each congregation in the Truth. Men have no authority to invent their own teachings. Those who love God continue even to this day "in the apostles' doctrine" (Acts 2:42)."

love you
