Was Jesus birth celebrated ?
Not recorded in the Bible other than Isaiah 53, if one regards that as celebration, in which He was very different from the sweet little one as described in hymns.
To the OP, I could only speak for myself because even among our little group we have different opinions. To me it's not whether to celebrate but how to. It's definitely questionable when one has the wife's daughter doing a table dance but it's a good time to say thanks to the one and the One who gave birth to us and count the blessings.

Jesus' birth WAS celebrated! What do you think all those angels and shepherds were doing?
Let's celebrate birthdays their way and don't forget the wise men. Guess me and my friends are not wise as we don't give each other gold, myrrh nor frankincense. And yes I was wrong on my last post :)

Why is it that some churches believe that celebrating birthdays in wrong? I don't find Scriptural support for that, unless I'm missing something.
Birthday parties only become a problem when they are turned into inordinate revellings. Therefore, as Christians, our birthday celebrations should be within the boundary of decency and moderation...

"Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy." (Romans 13:13)

"For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers." (1 Peter 4:3,7)

Not that it matters and or is wrong to celebrate birthdays as most do, but my thought is the following....

I am grateful for all the time that I get under the sun and for the time given to family and friends, but to celebrate 1 year, 50 years or even a 100 years must be absurd to the ETERNAL God who writes that our days are as a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away!

Luke 15:23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.

Personally, I cannot see what the problem is. Its really just a celebration and thankfulness for life. If when celebrating this you want to thank God with your family and friends that's good..if you don't that's up to you!

Plus and as a secondary note... I love a big slice of birthday cake.. I'm not fussy I can eat almost all flavours :)

Actually celebrating birthdays is something that the Jewish people did not and do not do, and there is nothing in the scriptures about doing it. But I would never say it is wrong to do so; just do not see the harm in it at all.

The problem is that I'm trying to find a Sabbath keeping church that does not have all the baggage such as celebrating birthdays is wrong, drinking wine is wrong, wearing jewelry is wrong and so on and so on and so on. Why can't we just stick to the Bible and let God define what is sin and what is not and stop using, "If you do this, this could happen so it's sinful" as a bases for something being sinful. For example, "If you drink wine you could end up having an affair so drinking wine is sinful" or "People get drunk at birthday parties so celebrating birthdays is wrong". You might as well say, "People die in car accidents so driving a car is wrong". It sure must be hard for God to give His people freedom with responsibility.

My basis for this:

1 Timothy 4:4

For everything God created is good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.

1 Corinthians 10:23-33

Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial...

It's a matter of balance. Do not be extravagant celebrating one's birthday. Just enough to encourage someone and that is good and beneficial. Is it beneficial and constructive to be excessive to anything? I don't think so.

it is good to celebrate whether physical or spiritual. But since I became a Christian, I'm excited more of my spiritual birthday than my physical birthday. BTW, my birthday is fast-approaching. Care to give me a cake and an ice cream? lol :D

For the most part only the Jehovahs witness (who are not true Christian) do not celebrate birthdays. They say it's to not bring attention to themselves.

I do not personally know any Jehovah Witnesses but even though their organization appears to not be true in the Word of God I am sure there are some devout Johovah Witnesses that have faith. I do not know of any formal organizations that have the true Word of God. Do any of us know that we understand God completely?

Esslesiates 7:20Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous,
no one who does what is right and never sins.

1 John 2:3-6

3We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[SUP]a[/SUP] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Nice post and very well balanced. I work with at risk and abused kids so to celebrate a birthday is important for them. To say it's wrong just adds to the abuse and neglect.

By the way, I hope you like chocolate.
