Women.

Forum thread.

It's always about food!
Actually, women (or men) who derail threads with food are providing an important service... reminding us one-track-minded men that there is more to life than being "right". :)

A honey cruller for me, please. ;)

First of all I disagree with the o.p. if this is in reference to the bible , the bible is truth not facts. Usually the truth is contrary to secular facts. Which brings me to my next observation of this so called jelly filled o I mean spirit filled topping a.....ahem....topic. glazing. I mean gluttony...is a sin in fact it is one of the seven sins God hates. It is filled with cream...o I mean.... never mind:D

LOL I totally never thought of it as a fish, but you're right! It does look like one...
What was it supposed to be?! I thought you intended it to be a fish symbol for CHRIST...

Has nothing to do with the Bible, just like a lot of the arguments folks in the BDF make to support their widely differing views.

(If you didn't catch, the comic was/is directly aimed at people who take snippets of the Bible out of context and then use snippets of so-called logic to weave hair-brained notions... i.e., most of the topics in the BDF. Thread is clearly not aimed at the Bible.)

It's actually a kawaii smiley face (at least that's how I've been using it), but now I can definitely see the fish resemblance and can see how you would think it was a fish.

Well if it was I was ready to defend....sorta...placing those bake goods as a distraction may work on the weak and those who are not jelly filled...o ..I mean spirit filled. There be no leaven here just to let you know. I'm not a cream puff to be taken lightly buttered ya know. Surely we can come to Some cinnamon agreement and not be blueberry about the subject.

Well I'd argue that God's facts are found in biblical truth :)
Then again it implies that there is the understanding that we're speaking from a biblical viewpoint and not the world's viewpoint.

Yeah, it just seems like there should be more of an outrage over intellectual cannibalism.
It's only intellectual cannibalism if the perpetrators are also intellectual.

Brilliant. When it comes to the Bible people confuse facts with spiritual truth. I once met a man who believed that the People Jesus mentioned in his Parables were real. Of course Jesus took examples from life to illustrate his teachings but
believing that the Sower for example was a real individual is taking his words beyond his original intention.

Being a little controversial, there is a problem with the idea "facts".

As is demonstrated in cc different people claim different things as facts and discount
others as merely opinions or allegories.

So I would rather talk about the validity of models, which make various assumptions,
and testing those assumptions.

I say this merely because to my cost I realise we are completely built upon our asssumptions.
We have fellowship here because we have faith in Christ.

This assumes a lot about what scripture is, and history for that matter.

But christianity has had a history of wanting to define absolutes of behaviour, morality, history,
origins, and has been shown to be mistaken about quite a few secondary assumptions or facts.

Let me put this into real context. You and I assume gravity works for everyone in our lives.
We can show its effect, but we as a culture have no clue what it really is. Tomorrow we could
find a place where gravity does not work, but we have not yet, so we assume there is no
place where gravity does not exist.

So the fact of gravity is bounded by this assumption. It is humbling to know our limitations, and
know all our opinions are equally as solid or fragile as this, but this is real value, but with context.

The church RCC said the world was the centre of the universe and everything else revolved
around it.

To dispute various interpretations of scripture was blasphemy and witchcraft worthy of being
burnt at the stake.

That unless you are buried in sacred ground you will not be risen in the resurrection.

That people have inability to walk in righteousness.

That communion is the actual body and blood of Christ.
That priests have spiritual authority above any other believer.

That the church is an organisation.

That people are all born with the same dispositions or desires.

That sexual orientation is a choice, rather than a spectrum of desire.

That people are lazy and power and wealth represents approval from God.

Now we all have our own version of these positions, and more.

I follow your argument but gravity is a poor example because it doesn't work on us in space.

Some of what you say here is true, but as for the rest - you're giving the Catholic Church far too much credit.
