the tower of babel IMO was a portal. it probably looked like a pyramid. according to the Egyptians they were not tombs but used for a transformation ceremony.

The Temple Mount Area Has Always Been Holy to Jews
The Temple Mount was holy to the Jews even before the Temples existed because there is a special connection with God at the site:

It was also at Temple Mount that Ya'akov (Jacob) had his famous dream where he saw angels going and coming from heaven on a ladder.

Jacob had this dream at Bethel, not at the site of the temple mount. this is why the place is named Bethel.

He called the name of that place Bethel; however, previously the name of the city had been Luz.

i always figured this site was special to the idolaters because of the dream Jacob had there - i guess you could say they thought it was an interdimensional portal, and that became more important to them than the Living God and His house at Jerusalem.
