Can you be saved by hearing and accepting the gospel without ever reading the bible? If faith in Jesus is the only way to salvation, then it's not the bible that really saves me.

We will be judged someday by the Bible, whether we read it or not. Those who can’t read it will be judged according to their conscience. Those who refuse to read it will be judged by everything in it that they refused to know. Such as “Not everyone who calls Me Lord will enter heaven.” Or that drunkards, swindlers, adulterers, homosexual offenders, thieves, etc will not enter heaven. Or “But if you sin willfully there no longer remains a sacrifice for your sin.”

What about this verse.

John 5:39 New International Version (NIV)
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,

So what does this mean?

Jesus is speaking to unbelieving Jews in John 5:39.

Begin vs 1 and read the whole chapter.

Jesus went up to Jerusalem during one of the feasts (vs 1). Jesus passed a man who had been impotent for 38 years (vss 2-5) and asked him if he wanted to be made whole and then healed him after the man said yes (vss 6-9).

The Jews then persecuted Jesus after they found out the man had been healed on the sabbath (vss 10-16).

Jesus spoke to the Jews about believing the Father and the Son (Whom the Father sent), as well as John (who was sent be bare witness of Jesus). He also spoke of His works and that His works bare witness of Who He is. Those who believe on Him will have eternal life and those who do not believe do not have eternal life (vss 17-38).

Then in vs 39, Jesus told them they search the scripture and think they have eternal life, but it is the Scriptures which testify of Him (and they don’t believe Him, nor will they come to Him - vs 40).

Dead giveaway you plucked a tiny portion of what you wanted to see from a larger context -- the comma. Obviously that wasn't even a full sentence.

Let's put it into full context:
30 “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 31 If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true. 33 You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36 But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, 38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. 39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not receive glory from people.42 But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. 43 I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

And then let me pull out the one sentence:
39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

What about it? What don't you understand?

This verse is correcting those who are working for Salvation instead of living in a relationship to Jesus Himself. And for us today we add from victory, for He has paid the price for our sins..and made us pure. This next verse is in reference to those who are living in victory in our redemptive life:

[h=1](Psalm 119:11): ...New American Standard Bible (NASB)[/h]11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.

2 Cor 3 makes clear that all Scripture will be unclear until we turn our hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Corinthians 3:

14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

16 Nevertheless when it
[the heart of the one reading Scripture] shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

If we do not turn our hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ, we can read Scripture 'til we're blue in the face and never understand it because there will be a covering which obscures the meaning. The covering is removed in Christ (vs 14) and when our hearts are turned to the Lord Jesus Christ, the covering is removed (vs 16). Scripture is no longer obscured and actually comes alive when our hearts are properly prepared to receive it.

Point taken but Monnkai was establishing how "biblically" we don't know if the thief "read" the bible, but he accepted Jesus as Lord just as anyone else can.
j...,

I understand. But, isn't it telling that G-d says.... the end shall not come until all have been exposed to His word? Why would He say this and what other message would be sent thru that scripture?.

You really just need to stop with your absurdities. No one in church history ascribed to such a baseless and asinine conclusion. It's purely unbiblical, argumentative, myopic and is nothing short of utter nonsense.

If his Kingdom was not of this world then if the Son of man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth then where do you think paradise is?

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Matt 12:40

Instead of just flipping pages you might trying reading one or two of them.

For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON that whosoever believes In HIM should not perish but have EverLasting LIFE.
Do you believe him?

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

John 3
