[for me anyway] it is not an overwhelming matter requiring great thought, rather it is in the simplicity in Christ:

**Many suppose accomplishing a ceremony or ritual or formalism somehow makes them clean..
"But rather [instead] give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, [you suppose] all things are clean unto you." (Luke 11:41)

**in the case of our acts of mercy (whether tithes or alms) it is the condition of our heart that shall determine whether it be counted to us for righteousness or not..
" Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

I am belong to a small church, and most member are oN minimum Wage, I do not know If we have enough to tithe, but to give what ever we can is good AS long AS we give It willingly. My pastor is work in a secular job, because church can not SUPPORT him.

I believe the question is not how much we give but, are we give with love.

Well since the Temple, the Levitical Priesthood, and the sacrifices of the OT are null and void, what makes you think that tithing according to the OT (which was connected with the Levites and the priesthood) is still in force? And just in case you failed to notice, God Himself tore the Temple veil separating the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place. What was the significance of that?
I agree. Nowhere in the NT was tithing taught, except in Hebrews as a historical fact that Abraham did to Melchizedek.

Remember the rich young ruler? "Give to the poor" Jesus said, not pay your tithes.

Paul collected offerings for the the poor saints of Jerusalem, & if ANYBODY in the NT should have gotten tithes, it should have been the apostles left in Jerusalem.

Nothing is written about that because it didn't happen.

Many don't want to believe it, but tithing in the NT church is a false teaching. Giving, on the other hand, was taught everywhere in the NT.

FlyingDove, I agree with most of your post. I have a one question...

...
The tithe was exclusively a tax on the produce on the land of Israel, so if you don't live within the Promised land (Israel), then you were forbidden from tithing (Deuteronomy 6:1-3). ...
I don't see any "forbidding" in those verses. Perhaps you overstated your position?

if anyone truly knows/understands the message of the Bible about 'tithing', it's all about
the HEART, and where and when Christ puts us in our lives at just the right moments to serve others through His Will and direction...

of course, we have a 'choice', whether we will or whether we won't...
Could you please provide even a single verse that directly connects "tithing" (not NT giving!) with the heart? I'm not aware of one. Tithing is directly connected with physical support for the Levites and priests. Either you submitted your tithe, or you were breaking the Law. Tithing and NT giving are simply not the same thing.

Heaven or Earth? Choose whom you will serve.
Your posts need more flesh on their bones. If you are equating tithing with NT giving, you are in error. The word "tithe" means "tenth" (either fractional or ordinal).

Once you are able to distinguish the two concepts, you may find that the freedom we have in Christ is manifest in your giving, and you won't be so quick to criticize others who don't give as you think they should.
