When I was a kid, there was a certain preacher in our town that was always wearing a smile, always upbeat; seemed like he was always on top of the world. I was glad he was happy and all, but after awhile I dreaded to see him coming. I couldn't be real with him because I felt like I didn't measure up. I was sure there was something wrong with me; otherwise I'd be happy and smiling all the time too.
I heard in response to world war 2.. there were many who put on a positive frame no matter what. Men would not talk about the war and emphasized prosperity.

The problem was some men addressed the trauma from the war but others swept it under the rug and it came out in anger toward their families for many men

Their was an attitude of HAVE to be positive. Forced positivity

Joy is not happiness nor does it mean happy.
Blessed is the bibical term for happy.
The joy of the Lord supersedes any human emotion...happy is a emotion caused by circumstances.

For the joy that was set before him jesus endured the cross.

Enduring the brutle crucifixion was by far one of the most painful heartbreaking things of all time we all would have to admit. Jesus im sure wasnt smiling or laughing in anyway in fact great drops of blood from stress anxiety poured from his brow.
Yet the expectation of the hope and trust he had in GOD coming to completion brought overwhelming gladness to his heart and peace to his soul and spirit.
This made jesus willingly go to the cross...to except the wrath that was ment for you and I.
Obedience unto death even the death of the cross.

In this clip, Ted uses Joel Osteen as an example because Osteen is one of the biggest proponents of the pie in the sky, always happy, always positive pipe dream. But this post isn't about Osteen, it's about all of those preachers out there who sell the same thing.

I think Ted has attained a lot of maturity and wisdom and we should listen to him on this. The Bible doesn't teach we will always have happiness or that we can simply decide to be happy; but it does teach we will be comforted in our times of sorrow, pain or grief. There are a lot of so-called preachers of the gospel out there selling people a lot of false hope. We would do well to reject this and stay grounded in reality.

Infact, joy and happiness is two very different things.
We have sorrow, pain and grief, and are instructed to grieve with those who grieve. Not deny sorrow and grief, but to join in the sorrow of others.

There's a time for everything:

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

Let us put things into perspective for a moment here.

Before I was Saved, aside from drinking, smoking pot, cussing, and chasing women I am pretty much living a similar lifestyle as far as working, things I enjoy like sports and family and friends. The only major difference is I walk in and with God.

I face similar problems, issues, and basically the biggest battle is the moral side of things.

I also notice Sin and Satan attached to things which I didn't Before.

But in all honesty, even though much hasn't changed, having God in my life has changed my perspective of things in every way.

So when I think of Joel Osteen and Threads like this one, I wonder if Joel preached Calvinism, OSAS, ultimate Grace, etc... how different would the comments be about him. And those Doctrines are just as man made and baloney as prosperity.

But look at the ones who push Grace on this forum. They sound like a used car salesman just the same as prosperity.

They are upbeat and portray themselves as positive just like Osteen.

So why are there not Threads destroying them?

They're just as baloney as the rest.

Sorry I do mean this. Did you watch the video you posted? Read what you said then go back and hear what Joel said. "I want to talk to you about choosing to be happy". Yeah everything he said is not against the word of God. So you wake up with no choice is that what you believe? You wake up as a believer who walks by faith not how you feel want to be sad? I think Paul talked about how he chooses to live act so forth no matter where he is. Did not God tell us we walk by faith not sight not by feelings? HAHA the song now playing "Sunday Sermons" At one point talked about "gonna have my worries that's part of life but then think about those stories about what my GOD can do". Hello faith. Read His word speak His word when trouble times come. As one preacher said you don't have any problems all you need is faith in God. God is never down never sad never negative always speaking words of life. So do you want to be like Christ have the mind of Christ have the faith of God? Then act talk like Him. Speak words of life. Yes life hits all of us and sometimes can be like a nightmare. Hello Joel has said we don't have to receive it. How can we believers not understand FIATH? Yeah it works both ways.

Remember Joel talked about favor? "For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. " yeah we have Gods favor which last a life time. Real Psa 91 on and on. Read Isa 41:10 Read in Jer.. it goes on and on. So many promises. Back to Joel it is a choice. I've not even quoted what the world says. Even Doctors will tell you what happiness, laughter does. Wait.. I think the word of God tells us also.

there are these preachers that have said so many times "these is no such thing as prosperity gospel". Now it makes one wonder how some will say this about them when they don't even believe it. So seems some are calling those preachers liars. Yet some have asked searched and...wow they came back with so many scriptures. Some I agree with some I don't. Yet backed up by His word which is oddly not done by those saying "prosperity gospel" can't or will not. See I can find prosperity in the word and its a promise to me. What some other preachers do or not do like Joel or faith preachers or John MacArthur or late Billy Graham. So speak words of life and just why you agree or don't agree. Don't make fun of Christ or hurt the holy Spirit. If you have done it to the least of these my brethren you did it unto me. Thats them and you and me
