In Matthew 24:11 " and false prophets will arise and mislead many" and Mathew 7:15
“Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves." So how do we know if there are modern day prophets or not? 1 corinthians 13:8 "
Love never fails.
+
But whether there are [gifts of] prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with"
So it shows that it was done away with hope this helped!
So you say in 1 Cor 13 it was already done away with.. then why would Paul say this in 1 Cor 14... Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
and this...And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Remember not all prophecies are done yet, so the undone prophecies can still be prophecied by the SAME PROPHETS, through ANY PROPHET.... The one that comes to mind is the FALL OF DAMASCUS.... Damascus has to be in such ruiens that NO PERSON LIVES THERE.... And that started with Libia starting a civil war....

There are many warnings in prophecies, and those prophecies are as relevent today as in the time of David... Those prophecies will be repeated unti prophecies and miricles stops... When Jesus comes, the righteous shall rise first... A HUGE MIRICLE.... and the trumpets shall blow... ANOTHER HUGE MIRICLE, and PROHECY... Even trumpets are prohecied, and what about the two PROHETS THAT WILL PROPHECY IN THE CITY AND BE KILLED AND BE MADE ALIVE AGAIN.... REVELATION.

Nope there are still too many Godly prohecies to be fulfilled, before God will stop prohecies.... But ALL prophecies will be 100% according to God's Word.... HE AND HIS SPIRIT MOVES THE PROPHETS... 2 Peter 1:21...

I believe there is such a thing as the gift of prophecy but does that make them a modern day prophet?
No ... I believe that last true one was John the Baptist; but many since have 'prophetic experiences' and moments --- but not every word they utter is written in 'stone' as was with the true Prophets per-se in the bible...

...many claiming to be 'prophets' are a 'dime a dozen' these days..., have seen so many false ones ..., and funny thing is their 'god' does not tell them about the Principles in the bible, but allegedly affirms their own 'convenience theology' through them...

Yes, we have the gift of prophecy today, but does that mean the person who has the gift of prophecy a prophet? I see several persons on facebook claim to be prophets. Is that title given by God or did they assume it?
...I believe they 'assume' it ... and there are many false prophets in that context ...

...one can definitely have a 'prophetic experience' and Paul mentions to 'covet it'..., and a number do have this experience - some more frequently than others : but the McDonalds prophet with their convenience theology does nothing for me ...

I have witnessed a person that has prophesied things which have come true to the letter......but that person has NEVER claimed to be a Prophet yet people call him a Prophet.

I never meant the Prophecies that were foretold by the last prophets have been done away with as 2 Timothy 3:1-5 Mathew 24:7 shows, they are still being fulfilled today. I was saying that there are no more prophets left as my previous answer shows. So there are no more people to give out prophets.

I think both sides have valid points on this issue. I look at it this way. In the OT, prophets got a word from God, in the form of direct revelation or a vision/dream. The prophets could then speak God's word to the people so it could be understood. The main message of the prophets was repentance because the people had gotten out of line with God. The only difference I see between the OT prophets and true modern day prophets is in the way they get the word from God. Modern day prophets get it from the Bible instead of direct revelation or visions. The church veers away from scripture, the prophet recognizes it, explains what God has said in Scripture, and calls for repentance. Of course there's a bit more to it such as prophets being subject to each other to combat against a rogue prophet.

Point is, personally, I don't see where the ministry gift of prophet has been abolished in scripture. I will concede that all these self-proclaimed prophets are not true prophets. The Bible does proclaim that there will be false prophets in the last days. There are always counterfeits to what is true. So if there are going
to be false prophets, would that not imply there are going to be true prophets also? Just my take.

God Himself has set, not only apostles, but prophets as well in the Church throughout the WHOLE of the age of Grace (there is absolutely no Scripture that limits 1Cor 12v28 and Eph 4v11-16 to only the 1st and 2nd centuries), the Two Witnesses will appear at the end of this age (during the Great Tribulation) with an authority, power and anointing so that they can 'strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire...So, even 'today' there are genuine 'apostles and prophets' that God Himself has set in the Church!

Mal 4v5,6, Matt 17v11,12, John 14v12-14, 1Cor 12v28, Eph 4v11-16, Rev 11v3-6.

So, make your horizons as broad and wide as the Scriptures and seek Him for a ministry! Psalm 24v1-6

Yahweh Shalom...
