"Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression." Romans 4:15

I have heard many on CC teach that this scripture says the law is opposed to love because wrath is love's opposition.
Then in order to cause transgressions to stop, the law was abolished and crucified with Christ.
Without the law we are righteous in the sight of God through faith in Christ, because God's grace is also opposed to the law.
God's grace, and God's law are arch enemies one with another.

"Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator." Galatians 3:19

This verse is referring to the way things were in Old Testament times before Christ was crucified. Now Jesus is the mediator of a better and New Covenant that gives believers peace with God because both the law and transgressions have been done away with by Christ Himself.

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4

Then being justified by faith, we are not held guilty for our transgressions which means the law has been crucified with Christ. If we are foolish enough to observe the law, we heap transgressions upon ourselves and we are automatically under its condemnation the same way we were before we were born again. Who would ever want to do that and lose their salvation that the law will surely destroy and re-establish the enmity?

"Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:" Ephesians 2:15-16

This verse proves all of the above, and we are comfortable with these things because peace with God is comfortable. Don't you agree? The way this verse reads is that the ordinances are the commandments and laws, and not the Old Testament temple ordinances that contain laws and commandments.

So we see that Jesus abolished the law in His flesh when He said "It is finished" like "it is finally gone now" i.e. "fulfilled".

Now there is a new law because this division and enmity that the old law created has been crucified once and for all. At least this is what some believe and teach. Observing the law is the biggest threat to a person's salvation. This is what I have been taught in CC. What do you believe?

I flunked the course cause I don't believe it this way. Jesus came to change us, not His words.
Same things just don't change. But I'm very glad that God's word never changes.

Perhaps you are thinking of how Jesus destroyed the curse of the law, which is death, causing the enmity betwen mankind and the law to end? I know the law will exist as long as the moon and the sun......ask Jesus; He says so.

Those who know Jesus Christ no longer need fear the law, for it has not power over them.. Learn from Jesus just how it is to be obeyed. Once you know, it is not difficult, and when you obey, you rwill not be perfect like Jesus, but Jesus in you is all the Father will ever see, amen.

The law got transferred from tablets of stone to tablets of human hearts(2cor3:3) what got killed if you like was the penalty for sin if you have been born again of the spirit for your righteousness is faith in Christ not obedience to the law

Never been any debate about the law being written on our hearts.

Paul said he presses on. We are to do the same. That doesn't negate any or the word of God.

Everything that HE ever spoke is righteous.

Tell me something

If the law thou shalt not covet is placed on my heart, do you believe I must read the literal commandment/word to know it is there?

If people agree with you and say the law is on their hearts, and salvation is not by works, what is the problem?

It's coming down to just arguing whether we should believe God or not. I'm sticking with believing.

Exodus 20:20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
Exodus 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exodus 20:6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exodus 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

That's awesome! Nothing offense in any of it.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.’[SUP][e][/SUP] [SUP]11 [/SUP]Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because ‘the righteous will live by faith.’[SUP][f][/SUP] [SUP]12 [/SUP]The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, ‘The person who does these things will live by them.’[SUP][g][/SUP] [SUP]13 [/SUP]Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.’[SUP][h][/SUP] [SUP]14 [/SUP]He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
[h=3]The law and the promise[/h][SUP]15 [/SUP]Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. [SUP]16 [/SUP]The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds’, meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed’,[SUP][i][/SUP] meaning one person, who is Christ. [SUP]17 [/SUP]What I mean is this: the law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. [SUP]18 [/SUP]For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. [SUP]20 [/SUP]A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. [SUP]22 [/SUP]But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
[h=3]Children of God[/h][SUP]23 [/SUP]Before the coming of this faith,[SUP][j][/SUP] we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. [SUP]24 [/SUP]So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. [SUP]25 [/SUP]Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, [SUP]27 [/SUP]for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. [SUP]28 [/SUP]There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. [SUP]29 [/SUP]If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

No debate over any of those verses, but how do they negate reading God's word?

I think that for some reason, some attribute sin the parts of the actual word. Nothing God ever said is sinful, or bad or wrong.

With that prophecy of the heart inscriptions and the inward parts, in one of th prophecies of this event it say you will not longer have to say to other men, "Know ye the Lord," for they shall all know me. There is the other that says on that day every man will invite his neighbor to eat under his fig tree..........just a reminder.

Naw, I'm saying that God's word should be taken seriously. But it's each persons choice how serious they will take it. I, along with you and every other person will give account to HIM.

Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]No longer will they teach their neighbours,
or say to one another, “Know the Lord,”
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more

Heb 8:8-12

Notice Israel and Judah were specifically mentioned concerning the covenant, however we know the Gentiles have been grafted into it. When the writer of Hebrews wrote the core of it in ch8 this is what he had previously written:

Christ’s sacrifice once for all

10 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshippers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. [SUP]4 [/SUP]It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
‘Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
[SUP]6 [/SUP]with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Then I said, “Here I am – it is written about me in the scroll –
I have come to do your will, my God.”’[SUP][a][/SUP]

[SUP]8 [/SUP]First he said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them’– though they were offered in accordance with the law. [SUP]9 [/SUP]Then he said, ‘Here I am, I have come to do your will.’ He sets aside the first to establish the second. [SUP]10 [/SUP]And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. [SUP]12 [/SUP]But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, [SUP]13 [/SUP]and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. [SUP]14 [/SUP]For by one sacrifice he has made perfect for ever those who are being made holy.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
[SUP]16 [/SUP]‘This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.’[SUP][b][/SUP]

[SUP]17 [/SUP]Then he adds:
‘Their sins and lawless acts

Clearly the covenant was for the gentiles to be grafted into, for the writer specifically links the covenant to Christ's sacrifice at calvary. However, we must accept verse 11 of Hebrews 8 Judah and Israel are specifically being mentioned. For as scripture states a time is coming when all the Israelites will be saved.

I was browsing thru the threads and this caught my eye. It made me bust out laughing! All the continual news coverage about terrorism had me in such a dark mindset and your statement broke me out for a minute. Thank you. :)

The enmity will NEVER cease, ever, because it is between Jesus and satan, and they will always be enemies, for eternity. I believe it is Genesis 3:15 that say God will put enmity between satan and Someone who would come from Adam and Eve. The evil one would bruise His heel, but He will crush satan's head. The bruise was the cross. A bruise heals, but if you crush someone's head you take away their power forever. The bible from this point on is the working of God's plan to bring Jesus Christ, and salvation through Him. What fellowship can Light have with darkness? The enmity will never cease.

Jesus didn't kill the law. Jesus full filled the law. Jesus wants us to repent...it is his grace that bestowed upon us. That's his hope and salvation in our life..so that we may be the Children of God. :)

Another way of understanding, Jesus killed the curse of the law, death, ending the enmity between sinners and the law. Now we are given the privilege by the Holy Spirit to obey the law as well as we are given to understand the law under the New Covenant.

By His own example, Jesus Christ, we know how the law functions to this day by applying the important points of the law, that being faith (in the wisdom of Jesus' teachings9, mercy (if we wish to obtain mercy), and justice. Remember justice must contain mercy. There, now isn't this easy to understand. The Pharisees taught laws and traditions of man as commandments from God, not so with us. We study His Word to be found good servants of the Most High God, amen.

Many make the mistake of looking to the literal letter of Christs commands as obedience to Christ. They then run into trouble because they cannot obey all of those commands. So it is following a way you cannot attain to. Jesus commands can be summed up as illustrations of. Love God and love your neighbour. Paul knew that, hence:
Carry each others burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ Gal6:2
